Yeah I’ve still never understood that they start the shooters in suberbia which the zombies take over renaming it zomburbia and then in bfn boom in a whole different area my guess is that neighborville is a very large city and that suburbia is a smaller part of it

In all seriousness though, I really respect the amount of stuff you put in your videos. In this one especially, you could've done the usual "EA bad, PopCap good" and "muh microtransacion ruin da game" but you actually sort of done PvZ 2 really fairly and I applaud you for that.

I never played Plants vs Zombies. I did play a game on Newgrounds that was a cheap imitation of it, titled Toys vs Monsters, where a kid put toys at the bottom of his bed to guard him against nightmares, and they were powered up by books to fuel his imagination.
So basically you played a horrible knockoff and missed out on the EPIC series I see I see

I remember going nuts when I discovered there was a PvZ 3 in the works (for a while at least), it’s actually got such a nice style. I like how 1, 2, and 3 are very distinct and I like them all. The animation in PvZ 2 is great, like the walk cycles for the zombies. But yeah you’re right, there was better variation in the designs themselves in PvZ 1. Anyways, fun to hear about the different PvZ games

No, Pvz2 should be in F tier because of how bad it is, you literally can't experience half the levels and plant's without paying money, no matter how much you say I will still believe that Pvz2 is the worst game ever.

it’s nice seeing more PvZ content. it sometimes feels like PvZ is this weirdly niche series, which is odd when i remember that it started with one of the most popular TD games of all time.
i’ve spent the past *11 years of my life with this franchise.* and i wouldn’t have it any other way.
but… seeing the absolute failure of BfN and 3, i’m not sure i wanna see that in until the end.

I only follow PVZ franchise until their 10th anniversary and after BFN released and especially 3 I totally stop. Same with like cut the rope since magic and angry birds since action they are totally changed. Goodbye memorable classic mobile games (2009-2019). I always remember going through childhood and teens with those memories. Especially when I celebrate my 18th birthday in the release date of BFN I'm totally glad.

20:32 A new gameplay element would definitely be nice. The plant food mechanic in the second game was one of its best parts. However, gimmicks are not the way to go. I think the reason there are so many bad games these days is because they focus on gimmicks, the game itself looks kinda gimmicky. A strong foundation and good core gameplay and well-thoughtout user exeprience is what truly makes a game good.
Right I agree I just don’t know if people will PLAY a game without a gimmick in the modern mobile world, maybe I’m wrong though
that's why I love classic mobile games in the early 2010s era. Less gimmicks and you totally play for fun. Not like just looking for graphics and how much fps goes

Plants Vs zombies Adventures was and still is one of my favorites games, i played it when it came out an extremely long time ago and it was super fun.
Awesome returning and new plants, cool new zombies, the roadtrip maps and levels were great (U of Z, Park N Perish, Sweaty Palms, Cadavern Cavern etc)... but best of all was the music, i still remember and listen to it to this day, makes me nostalgic.
There were also PvP modes like them attacking your house or you attacking them; with Zombies... so you could play as them pretty much.
I'm glad many PVZAD plants like Bambooshoot, Fire Peashooter and Chilly Pepper were added into newer games but come on Beeshooter, Sweet Pea, Popcorn and Asparagus deserve to shine as well.
Zombies like Impostor, Conga Line Dancer (and their backups), Ice Block zombie, Rocket Scientist, The smoking Gas Can Zombie, Mall Cop Zombie, The one that has like a million hats... that one patriot girl with the big arm also deserve to be added at least to PVZ 2... apparently Barrel Zombie from pvz adventures was supposed to be on a Dark Ages expansion of PVZ 2 but for some reason was never added so F.
The waiting system for the plants wasnt even that bad cause it made you experience everything the game has to offer at a nice pace instead of rushing it.. you had to pick and choose which plants you wanted to grow and how long it would take, and to get premium plants (Power Flower, Ice Queen Pea, Sweet Pea, Hard Nut, Beetboxer etc) sure you could buy them but you could also get the red gems just playing events so patience rewarded again
There were many alternate powerups like making your plants stronger for a few seconds for a some sun, freezing one zombie in exchange for some sun, freezing all zombies, replacing your lost lawmowers, boosting all your plants for a few seconds, being able to use a glove to MOVE your plants around! But ofc you could only pick one of these powers per level and they would also take time to recharge to get them.
Anywho i know im going on a long rant, but I'm glad someone talked about one of my favorite games, no one really talks about Plants vs zombies adventures mostly cause they never played it themselves and when they do talk about it, its super short as seen here but still in very glad when people do talk about this game.
There was a two player mode for plants vs zombies on the Xbox where one person could pick the plants and the other person could pick the zombies and battles so garden warfare technically wasn't the first time you could play as zombies

Great video! I’m glad you didn’t stick with the stereotypical “EA bad, Popcap Good” thingy, and for the most part, I can agree with most of the points in this video! Although I was surprised in 9:26 when you said you didn’t like the zombies, those were actually my favourite part of PvZ2, because of all their wacky abilities. If you’re talking about their faces and bodies looking the same, that’s understandable, but I think that was something the devs had to do to make sure they don’t clog up storage with unique zombie templates for each zombie. PvZ 1 could do it because of the game being much smaller, but I can see where you’re coming from.

For a ranking of every PvZ plant, I would do all 49 plants from the first game, then do plants from other games in other parts.

Yeah that’s fair. I wasn’t really interested in PvZ before garden warfare 2 so that might have something to do with it too. But I agree, the sequel is just more of the first in most ways
Ok, say what you will about the zombie designs of PvZ2, but the Pirate Gargantuar is PEAK. He’s a giant buccaneer with a cannon strapped to his back…and he crushes plants with a shark 🔥

Great video, you completely blew my expectations by not going for tbe usual "ea bad popcap good" like all those other pvz videos. I agreed with most of your rankings.
Pvz2 is never given enough credit for what it is, it definitely deserves to have the same ranking as the original. It is In no way whatsoever pay to win, as a lot of the outsiders of the pvz communtiny have been led to believe.
While its still being updated, its recent updates can be good but a lot of the content and systems added are bad and unpolished, such as the new janky plants and the addition of levelling and seedpackets, along with the removal of things such as match minigame, world, extra animations for plants, treasure yetis and some banger soundtracks.
But just play mods such as pvz2: reflourished and altverz, they are easy to install and just incredible, adding new plants, cosmetics, zombies and worlds that feel so official. Theres so much love and effort poured into them.
They also do other things such as removing the paywall for all premiums.
Imo garden warfare 2 easily deserved an S tier alongside its tower defence counterparts. Gw1 and pvz heroes deserved an A, battle for neighbourville deserved a C and pvz3 should be D.

Classic PvZ is a timeless masterpiece that everyone love. But I always prefer the 2nd game. Fast pace gameplay, plant food making plants do super move, variety of zombies with unique ability, level with objectives making the levels feels unique and more world. 7:58 I prefer the new updated art style, they look much cleaner and has more animation without going overboard.
PvZ2 can be very chaotic and hard, thus most people will think this game is P2W. I beat the adventures without spending any money and have so much fun.
Nowadays, PvZ2 feels more like a bad mobile game with the plant leveling system and seedium plants that force you to grind them. There's also 2 extra mode (arena and penny pursuit) that requires high level of strong plant to compete.

He was laid off, and he didn't leave because of microtransactions, he left because he didn't want to create sequels for his games.

Technically, you could play zombies in the original game as a mini game
watching zackscottgames during the peak of the first Garden Warfare brought back a ton of good memories- that was like late 2013-2014, I remember when 2 free dlc characters for a promotion of a drink or something were added to the game, one of them being the berry pea shooter which was just way to good that they had to nerf it, that brought a tear to my eyes 🤧 they basically made the berry pea shooter feel so generic and boring to use, they overdid it with the nerf in my opinion, then garden warfare 2 I completely missed out on, never played it during its peak or never watched zackscottgames play it during its peak, it just went under the radar for me, I do think I remember seeing the trailer and being excited for it but then I don’t know what happened I guess I just forgot about it and never actually realized when it released until years later, I did eventually try it out for the first time in 2020, and it was alright didn’t like some changes, but some changes were definitely an improvement over the original, however I am still biased towards the original since I did play it during the peak of the game and during my elementary school-middle school years which bring back a lot of great memories.

can't imagine you skipped the gw2 first 3 years. It's PVZ best first person shooter to date and their only comparable FPS games to the first 2 games. And don't forget even though now Zack only active playing pvz2 but his PVZ most popular videos with the most views is his debut premiere official playing very first episode GW2 hands down. But I can't lied the original totally memorable for people to date
I actually agree with most of the rankings here. You're reasonings are well thought out and I love how you think that Pvz2 and 1 are on the same level.
But there are the games that I straight up don't agree, BFN and PvZ3.
BFN - While it is the worst shooter game, no doubt about that,I think you missed a lot positive aspects about the game and just focused on hating the game cause you don't like it. Stuff like the Hud. Yes it looks more "liveless" but it gives SO much more information than the previous games.(Like when you will start regenerating hp, how overheated you're weapon is on classes like All-Star or giving you exact seconds to when you can use you're ability again). While I don't like most of the redesigns I think the graphics aren't necessarily bad looking expecially the shading and the artstyle which gives me bit of tf2 vibes, also they've done ten times better job on cosmetics than GW2. The upgrades system while, not as good as variants, I think is still a preety good alternative, most of them are at least useful and can help make classes stand out and even make you're own subclasses. Thanks to the upgrades it also feels a lot more fun and easier to level up characters than in GW2, where you had to tediously play the same class for hours just to max out one variant. BFN is definitely not a prefect game or maybe even a "good" one but you CAN see things that they at least wanted to improve, and by the end of the game lifecycle it actually started looking good. It definitely deserves a B or at least a C it's just not THAT bad, the worst thing it does is probably just existing.
As to PvZ3 - I'm very surprised that you even think the game is "good" for what it is. At least for me this game, if it even will come out, will just destroy this franchise, or what's left of it. This game just adds so many things that actively makes the game worse. Stuff like the power ups which could have been plants that you could use, the life system to make sure players come back, removing plant food, buying cutscenes, even the town making aspect, while it's actually preety good, it's just a blatant copy of other mobile games. And the elephant in the room, you can't choose you're own plants, it's just makes the game more boring. You can like a certain plant or a combo but no you have obey the game and play with plants that you don't want to. The formula is still there and it's fine but the game is so boring and easy. The levels almost always feel the same and there are maybe like 4 diffrent zombies in the entire game, there are no special levels or condition like in previous games. The worst thing is that the game can make good things, like the levels with only squashes or the landscaper that takes you're plant spaces away but they almost never use it.
In my opinion this game is just worse in every aspect than PvZ2 and doesn't feel like an evolution (BFN at least improved some stuff and had a singleplayer campaign) but a typical mobile game. The game may not be bad or unpolished but if this game is PvZ's last shot at redemption I feel it's better just to kill this game before it can do any harm. So putting this game next to GW1 and Heroes is in my opinion a disgrace.
Sorry for a bit of a rant at the end but I want emphasise my opinion on the subject and also thanks to anyone who actually read this all.

I'd like to point out as someone who reached max rank in BFN, the only good new game mode was battle arena as it worked really well with no variants and had you actually developing strategy and combos with your team. Too bad it only lasted for one season.

You know, in my opinion BFN is not that bad of a game. I love the art style and the maps are good. I do find that it can get boring to have just the same olants and zombies with no variants, but i don't hate it for that. As you said, the game should got more updates to make it better, but covid ruined it saddly. Apart for this, i really enjoied the video, i love gw2 and pvz and pvz2 and the games are great, and the fact that you ranked obscure PvZ titles is great! That rabbit hole is infinite, there is so much. Great video!!!

When pv2 came out it was AMAZING...then it wasnt.... THEN IT WASSSSSSS the middle life of pvz2 ruined it for alot of people i still played here and there but i didn't stay... and i recently came back and its suuuuper gooooooood love the grind for new plants i get that sooome are locked but usually if youre good at the game you will get most of the plants in the game

@@Jake.Miller PvZ2 chinese is so much fun. You have an old computer were you can play pvz1 like levels(you can only use pvz1 plants and you can't use the plant food, also they are set to level 1). Also Popcap wanted to add microtransactions to pvz2 before EA bought them. Also Geroge Fan wasn't fired he was laid off. Because EA bought them they had issues with the management of human resources so they had to do lay off some people.
In pvz 2, the newer plants are pretty busted and make the world plants basically obsolete. Also, the levels are pretty unbalanced. You can easily destroy the zombies without any effort because of the levels. They should have never added those levels in the update. Also, they should have kept the post-zombot levels in the game(They sometimes appear as challenges). Fortunately these issues are sufficiently fixed in mods.

In defence of pvz2, most players would’ve already finished the main campaign by now, so pop cap is focusing on the other 2 game mode and thus newer plants are made with their difficulty in mind.
Plant Levels are hardly a necessity since the only time you’ll be forced to level them up is at the introduction I.e., levelling up wallnut. Even before plant levels were a thing, the most difficult levels in pvz2 were already beatable, with decent strategy of course since plz at its root is a strategy game.
Pvz2 isn’t a completely irredeemable game, and I’m saying this as someone who’s played the early early alphas of it

pvz journey to the west is a version of pvz1 with WAY more content and it even has bosses search is it on YT there are some gameplay vids where you see everything. also some of the plants are Heroes which can be moved and have special abilities.
it also has some unique lawns/plants (yes also Ghostpepper was first from there not pvz2)

I would love to see you rank all the plants, but I think you might not want to rank plants based on their usage in every game and rather do a PvZ 1 tier list only covering those plants in those games, a PvZ 2 tierlist that covers all the plants in 2 and their usage in there, etc. My main reason for this is that, even though 1 and 2 are similar in terms of gameplay, they are different environments with different systems such as a 25 vs 50 sun system, 2 being a lot more zombie-spam than 1, 2 having a lot more specials and Gargs than 1, and some plants like Cactus getting completely changed in 2.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I also might put out a poll when I work on the list. I definitely will only do plants from pvz1 for the first list. I’ve been debating if I should only base my rankings on them from that game OR pvz2 as well. In some cases their pretty similar and in others it’s almost a unique character. I am still unsure about what the right answer is but I agree that there are definite differences to take into account
Honestly, I think battle for neighborville is underrated. Yea the subclasses being removed was annoying, but I find myself enjoying the classes more in bfn. Battle arena is also VERY fun.

PvZ Adventure Also had Diff Game mode called Brain Ball, Where its the Game equal to "I Zombie" Where You use Coins/Gems to make zombies and Attack other people Bases.
Time to time The "Overworld" (Town) Zombies would attack you so Not only You need to beat "World" levels But Defend aguints other players and AI bots.

IMO I agree with literally everything here… besides GW2 I think it’s the best pvz game. Not only is it much more repayable I adore the gameplay so much. Ive continued to play the game through my life time!!! I adore almost everything about it, and cannot name a single thing bad about it. That’s me tho. Good! Good vido! Yes!

There definitely are some bad things about it. I prefer GW2 but GW1 definitely had the better maps. Also GW2 could’ve added more character variants to every class.
And the thing that makes me really angry about GW2 is the lack of new abilities. I feel like they could’ve given each character more abilties. Instead they just filled Rux up with bling abilities that literally did nothing different.

Just a thought on PVZ3, I think it’d work best in a sort of “BTD6” mentality of having very deep mechanics despite its appearance, and leaning heavily into difficulty and complexity.

I somehow found out about the Chinese pvz games in like 2013 or 2014, I was really really young but i managed to find apk's and played them all so much. PvZ online was so fun, it had some really interesting minigames and a town building thing. Also I could be wrong, but I think that the game people call Journey to The West was actually called PvZ Endless Edition, and Journey to The West was the updated version of Great Wall Edition, but again I could be wrong. Anyways, great wall edition had multiple new worlds.

Damn, I remember wanting to get my hands on an actual phone, to play the sequel of PVZ2, like, I really wanted a phone, that was like around 2012... and I remember watching some videos of Zack of PVZ 2 at the time, and now this video reminds me of that channel (yet I'm part of the group that say that it sucks the second game has a paywall for all the plants...)

Neighborville just hurts me since I remember playing it the first day and enjoying it, then waiting for updates to come since they released weekly for a while (since some stuff wasn't there on release, understandable)

Did y'all see what they did to garden/graveyard ops in BfN? its borderline insulting compared to GW2 ops. It hurt a lot to see and made me drop the game by the third/fourth week.
