Mine arrived three days ago. Since unboxing Osmose, I've been exploring a fascinating new aural landscape. Each preset brings unexpected and novel tones, timbres and subtle variations. Expressive E haven't just hit the ball out of the park with this amazing musical box of tricks -- they've redefined the rules of the game and remodelled the park into a multi-coloured, multi-dimensional adventure playground! Eat your heart out Moog, Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Arturia, Nord, Sequential and Novation, etc. --- you've all been made redundant.
Synthesizer sound engines have evolved dramatically over the last 60 years, but this is the first time keyboard players have properly had the ability to really play the sounds in a truly responsive way like a violin or saxophone player can, to use your fingers to really intimately and intuitively get into the sound itself.
All elongated. Reduces the radial angle of depression to increase the resolution movement and slightly homogenate the white and black key rotational distance. Helps.
Internally, we call these elongated parts "stems"! :) But we don't have an official naming yet, so feel free to share your creative ideas. We're listening!
The CAN poster in the back is pure RESPECT! That band sounded like todays music back in the 70s - They were universes ahead of their peers. Their albums from back then sounded like they were recorded within the last few years.
@@duncanmorrisette5623 You're welcome! Can is nasty AF. their ENTIRE discography is gold. You can't go wrong no matter what album you start with. Greets from Switzerland.
@@ryanholladay5665 Dude, Virtually EVERYTHING can has ever released wont disappoint. Even the unreleased tapes blows minds infinitely ( And those recordings are from CAN in the late 60's ). The 60's were not ready for that SOUND. But this is what happens when a bunch of geniuses form a band. Also, Holger Czukay's ( The bassist and main founder of CAN ) solo discography is on another level entirely.
True Cuckoo did a demo for this keyboard that is the best I've seen so far. He really did a great job of demonstrating the expressive possibilities and showed a little bit about adjusting parameters to help with your playing style.
As great as the synth engine is, it's the integration with polyphonic after touch (long-throw) and sideway per-key pitch bend that really makes it special. Finally, keyboardists can express themselves like guitar, woodwind, brass players, etc. I'm hoping we're only scratching the surface of the potential of this tech. Thanks.
Fascinating instrument, watched a couple of videos yesterday, had the most magical dream about having this instrument and playing it. cant wait to get one of these.
Joe Zawinul would have loved this. Two questions, how does it work with third party software sound sources, and how easy is it to do the whole midi cc setup with vibrato with keys. Granted of course, if the sound has that type of stuff built in to it. This would be great with Omnisphere, and any classical string library for example.
Thanks a lot! You can pre-order one with our affiliated dealers :) As for sounds, definitely check the hybrid sounds... they integrate the behaviour of traditional instruments and mesh it with modern textures. Mesmerising!
best Osmose video so far I can't wait to get mine this month - was fun chatting with you guys at NAMM, and I finally got to play one 🙂 it's a glorious instrument
I was waiting for a standard keyboard that had some of those controls as found o Continuum and the like. Crazily affordable for what it offers and all the presets are really moody and beautiful.
Not previously having this level of expression in a keyed instrument is what has kept me away from learning. I've always played guitar, drums etc. This new breakthrough will make a lot of converts!
If you want to sell in the Middle Eastern countries give the synth to Spyros Kottis to show the people how we can use it with quarter tones because this instrument has a great potential. In Greek turkish Arabic music we use arrangers and on top a solo synth, with that expressiveness you could sell a lot !
The interface seems lovely and the presets seems nice, but still I wonder. Is it possible to make your own user sounds? How do they load into the Osmose? Can you please share some info about that?
That is what I expected, but it would be nice to see show how that process works? Is it complicated? What tools needs to be installed? How is the sounds transferred and such things… Is it possible to replace all presets or some banks?
@@prewinder the Haken editor is a MAX patch, so it has to be loaded with MAX from cycling74 (it's free, as in usable as patch loader without paying) I have not wrapped my head around everything. As with much potential comes a high complexity and the matrix uses math a lot, but I start to get a hang of the basics. Searching for EagenMatrix on UA-cam should result in a few videos showing the editor and hot to create a patch. Even it most likely will be from other hardware, the editor stays the same.
You'd be surprised at how much can be done with just playing around with one note. Of course, experienced keyboardists can take advantage of Osmose quite quickly but this instrument was designed to be used by everybody. Just "wiggling" around one note can generate SFXs, pads or string parts for days! :)
Yes! It's mesmerising so each preset do so much. By just activating the keyboard with one finger and creating creative gesture modulation, a lot can be done (risers, articulation changes,...). Ready to score!
Could only imagine how dull the rest of the sounds are if this is the best to show. Most of these sounds are missing that little bit more even an instance of serum even could have. Had higher expectations after seeing the price.
All the demonstrators came to live in a new-age community ? The decor is cool and the atmosphere supra-zen... I would like to see the rushes or the making-off ! ;-)
Not only are they going to sell a $#¡†-ton of these, they're also going to spawn a bunch of Me-Too synths from big companies - like, designs that focus on the same (or competing) expressivity capabilities. The future is bright for keys!

Agree, as a bass player i am always missing ways to express myself with the fingers when i am playing synths. This could be nice 👍
yeah it was the shame that so many powerful synth engines sounded flat because lack of realtime hand control.

Imagine showing this to someone from even 50 years ago!? Its unbelievable now haha. Crazy. Amazing work!

Have you seen electronic gear from the 50s
Well over 40 years ago we had the Synclavier and the Fairlight Computer Music Instrument who could do such sounds too.

I'm finding it more entertaining how stereotypical everyone looks for the kind of stuff they're playing.
Sometimes you have to dress the part.

It’s really beautiful here 5:25, preset and player. 😊

Any plans to release a 5-or 6-octave version in the future? I always feel a little hemmed in on a 4-octave instrument.

Already have a seaboard Rise 2, but considering getting an Osmose too...
That sound engine sounds crazy...
What is the name of the preset being used at around 3:32 in? The 50's spacey sine wave with vibrato sound?
oh oh this looks like competition for Roli Seaboard! I LOve It!!!!1
Merci pour cette démo Eric, l'Osmose a vraiment l'air bien. Et merci aussi pour cet hommage au regretté Chick Coréa.

Osmose's fun start as soon as you start brushing one key. No need to be Chopin to enjoy it :)
Jean-Philippe Rykiel . . . he really has that under control.

Yes all sounds shown in the demo are internal. Osmose is a standalone synthesizer!
The key to capturing a real instrument sound is in knowing the intrinsic capabilities of the instrument you're immitating.

are all these sounds built in?
Does it connect to the phone(KORG ANDROID)?
What about foot pedals?
You can connect 2 pedals to Osmose (sustain and expression) and map them to different parameters :)

I hope next year or so we could see an 88 key version :)

Not yet but you can use it in controller MIDI mode with a piano plugin :)

What kind of synth type of sounds? Granular, fm, additive, etc?
Basically everything except samples, the Haken EagenMatrix is really great
