Interesting similarities between this and Silent Hill 3s ending where Claudia fails to sacrifice a young woman to bring forth their God and instead gives herself to their God and summons the final boss.
The interesting thing to me is there seems to be two forms of time travel. The first is shown with the chain and lock where here tampering with the past alters the futures and she needs to get up to speed with what her actions have done, then later when she takes her own eye it appears to be a stable time loop that was always meant to happen. Realistically it’s probably just a writing issue and a plot inconsistency, but in universe could show a subtly different way in which her trips to the past work
I love this game, I just finished it and it blew my mind! It has every good thing that a fixed camera angle survive horror could offer and modernize it, so it can be played without frustration. Also, the artistic choice of this game is spot on, it has a very good balance between realism and exaggeration, so it produces a dream-like texture. This artistic choice allows some extremely unsettling and terrifying scenes later in the game. I haven't had this experience for a very long time, probably from the last time I played Silent Hill 3. I really love the puzzles in this game, I think they are even better than the puzzles in the original survival horror. To sum up, the creators of this game know what the fans of Resident Evil/Silent Hill want, and give them unreservedly.
My theory about her being "immune," is that cause of her being a twin of Anna's with that special blood she was able to have a much higher resistance to the radiation that the egg gave off, it started to affect Anna cause after time was passing she was no longer being considered special since all their twins were sacrificed at a young age from being able to grow up and become tainted. Caroline kept teleporting back and forth via the vhs tapes and though she was an adult she was still pure as Emma cause of the memory loss from when she fell off the bridge two memories that affected everything that she was going through
My take is that Caroline isn't immune at all. Anna spent 14 years locked in the sewers, so it make sense for her to look like that after all this time, and since Caroline was only there for like some hours (or even minutes) it probably wasn't enough to actually mutate her body.
So I basically learned nothing new from this video but I appreciate your efforts. This game is filled with plot holes. Like how is the sister floating around and attacking her but also locked down in the vault. I think they merged realistic and psychological horror while forgeting the rules of genre. If anything the game was probably made first and the story slapped on top. Radiation has magical powers, so do videotapes and mirrors. Why cut your own eye out, surely a photograph or mirror could work easier.
if I may, maybe the temporal and Dimensional warping is also caused by the radiation/ entity, the radiation can distort the body why not also distorting reality to a degree
If I'm guessing right, her grandfather sent the letter to her after she traveled back in time and met him prompting the "did you think you could just leave us" on the back of the photo.
Harry I watched your resident evil 7 video and I'm literally hooked on your videos. I just watch like you're telling a story and i thoroughly enjoy it. Big fan!
Yeah.... Love your channel... Good for people like that can't play the game and still enjoy the story.... I love the way you break everything down and explain everyone's plot. More videos please ☺
I think a simple but flimsy reason for the VHS timetravel and mirror worlds could be the unhatched god mucking about with things: they ultimately move things in the direction of the crypt being unlocked and a sacrafice being given, not to mention if you were to lose the final boss fight you could think of it as having been fully freed.
I want to believe the mirror versions of the mansion were somehow related to the demon god, yet I fail to see the connection... it would have been nice if they explained or hinted a bit of this in the game, but oh well.
The time travel stuff, the radiation changing people, the ancient rituals and all makes more sense once you get the concept of a "Lovecraftian Entity". This game is a cosmic horror tale where the events are caused by a completely incomprehensible "entity" which causes severe distortions to our "reality". This entity may be beyond our euclidean universe limitations so time travel may be possible for this entity, creating pockets of space (like the ones in the mirrors) impossible for us, may be no problem in higher dimensions we regularly have no access to but this entity can do it, and does it as a response to the desires and needs of the twins tied to it. There was a portal to Caroline's room from the sewer prison where Anna was left, the Tapes seem to be created at a useful and needed point rather than just filmed by someone, the dark world pockets of space overlap with reality and are used to overcome obstacles that would leave areas entirely inaccessible. All these creations have intention to Caroline's needs. Caroline killed the "god" thing but at the same time the god thing was helping her consciously or not, which is not a requirement for cosmic horror stories where sometimes the most powerful beings cannot even be called intelligent. Caroline and her sister were created from this entity, they are strongly tied to it, maybe Caroline wasn't affected by the radiation because she is immune or she just has a higher tolerance, she didn't expose herself that much so she resisted the corruption. Anna was left there to rot and that's why she couldn't resist corruption.
I have a theory that being a twin gives some sort of resistance to the radiation, and that Anna's transformation happened because she was exposed longer than anyone. That would explain why Caroline and Noah had no effects (they weren't always exposed) whereas Anna was consistently in the radiation's presence (alongside her mistreatment). Can't fully prove it, as the game is cryptic enough as it is, but it's possible that all twins had innate resistance (but not immunity). Can't really think of anything else, and hey, I could be wrong.
I had the same thought. Twins are unaffected by relatively short periods of exposure to the radiation but prolonged exposure will effect them. It's a bit like Kryptonite in DC Comics. Short-term exposure to its radiation is harmless to humans but continuous prolonged exposure is carninogenic.
I can't wait for the sequel! i was hoping for a new protagonist but it still looks good! hopefully there are more characters to interact with. it was kinda easy to figure out who the villain was going to bel.
Hey mate. I love your lord videos, but I don't watch gaming streaming. If you ever do a pure lore channel I will be an instant sub and watch every video. I wonder if this could be common among some of that 88%? Maybe do a poll?
I just finished this game today. It was quite an amazing game although I felt that the underground part involving the sewers snd bunkers near the end dragged on a bit excessively. But wow. This story is soooo twisted lol 😂🤣. The final boss fight reminded me so much of the final boss fight with the Wheelchair Man in Silent Hill Downpour. The way you defeat them felt very similar.
Is it just me or was it blatently obvious that the plot twist was that the protagonist was one of twins all along? I literally assumed this the moment the picture was shown in the beginning of the video.
Yeah, the time travel and Silent Hill-esque portions of the game felt very jarring since almost everything else seems to be more sci-fi and evil cult stuff, but then they just throw us all for a loop with some supernatural hoodoo without any warning or explanation. :/
I don´t know if anyone else noticed that Caroline/Emma holds the nailgun backwards in the cutscene before the cultist fight? It bugged me when I saw it in the game xD
The only thing that confused me was why she had to take her own eye. She had two when she arrived and if she is the one that took her own eye (because she needed one from taking it herself) then she shouldn't be missing an eye to need to be taking it to begin with... Because she already had two....
taking her own eye when she need it to retina scanner is really painful, so the simple way to avoid it is to taking it from her past self since her past self is in unconscious condition
@@gerardwolf8507 necro aside what milky is talking about is a classic case of grandfather paradox, aka infinite loop of needing to take the eye to preserve what happened, although if that hadn't been done you would have two eyes to begin with
Just finished playing through this game. In the story department, I honestly gave up at the halfway point when you first encountered the mirror at the Maternity Ward. It gave an "Eek" feeling then immediately thought that it was borrowing a lot of gimmicks from Silent Hill Origins and with the lack of explanation as to how our Leading lady could do it is so jarring. I also didn't bother reading through the files either as the UI for it and the Map good lord was it janky. Also want to add that I played this on the Switch version. My God this game was pitch black even with the lighter on at max brightness from both in game and console settings 😒 The game definitely has heavy inspiration from RE, SH and even Outlast 2. It lacks that polish from what made RE Remake so replayable and masterful but overall I'm glad my thirst for classic survival horror was satiated even if it was a "meh" story, gameplay and experience. Here's hoping once the full release of Echoes of the Living it will not disappoint.
Congratulations, great video. I ve Just finished the game and thanks to you everything Is more clear. But I have Two questions, maybe you can help me: - In the Maria's Diary, It mentions five years old birthday of the Twins, but date on it Is before the day they Will Born (1964 If I m not wrong -> 5th birthday, but they Will Born Only in 1971)... I m missing something or what? - when we go back in time to take our Eye in the bath, the date on the VHS Is 11 June or 6 November 1994... But we arrive in the mansion on 12 december 1994 and the game starts in fact 5 days later, on 17... How Is It possibile that on June or November Caroline was in the bathroom? Thanks you so much!
If we don't use the acid on the chains, Anna dies in that cell. When Caroline is about to give Anna the antidote, there's also the option to use the scalpel to kill her. This triggers the second ending, as, without curing Anna, it's not possible to get the bolt cutters.
So call me a bit of a killjoy but the plot of this game is time travel nightmare, I mean the second you rescue your sister from the past you create a space time paradox because if your sister is freed you have no reason to go to this place so you never free your sister, also the eye thing, so before the loop started you wake up in the bath with both eyes so why do you need to go back in time to remove your own eye there by starting the loop? Basically people shouldn't write time travel stories they always mess it up.
Me and my Boyfriend fucked up and used the scalpell on the stalker monster at the end and killed it like that. It never went after us and was just dead, a decision we regret lol
Both Noah and Caroline are sacred twins and both have sacred blood. Also Anna only gets sick after several years of exposure, meaning that sacred twins could have some sort resistance to the Radiation. Since the radiation comes from the sacred placenta (of monster ?) Maybe sacred twins are biologically connected to the monsters thus are more resistant. Maybe mothers of sacred twins are inseminated and fertilized with genetic material of the sacred egg. (?)
I mean. She wakes up with an eye missing. But she's the one who took her own eye. Aka if she never did that in the first place she wouldn't have needed to do it at all. As she would still have 2 eyes for the retina scanner
