    I think what makes it sound like complete gibberish to Western ears when we hear "Tatsumaki Senpukyaku" is that most English speakers are expecting 9 syllables (ta-tsu-ma-ki sen-pu-ky-a-ku) while you only hear 5-6 but this is because Japanese have very short vowels, so to English ears it often sounds like, "Tats mak sen pu kyak". To make it worse, Ryu always emphasizes the 2nd syllable of Senpu, so it's like "sen-PU" while an English speaking tongue would more habitually pronounce it as "SEN-pu". But once you make sense of the pronunciation (i.e. "tats-mak sen-PUU-kyak) you can't unhear it.

      Ima call BS on that one. Even the japanese laugh at this gibberish pronounciation. Amd learning japanese didnt make this more sensable to me either. If you have to already know what he is saying to barely understand then its gibberish.

    • @remnant24
      @remnant24 2 роки тому +7

      Wrong, what makes it sound like complete gibberish to anyone who doesn't understand Japanese, is the fact that it's Japanese. Any language that's foreign to you will sound like gibberish.

    Hoy después de años, estudiando japonés pude entender cómo se pronuncia correctamente este ataque.
    La U de tatsumaki y kyaku no se pronuncian mientras que la de senpuu se acentúa. Tampoco la I de tatsumaki se pronuncia. Así, queda "Tats-mak- senpuu kyak", y no el mítico "Ot latset duuken" qué escuchaba de shiquito xD.

      @@AI-tc8fv I'm not gonna lie to you guys... I didn't hear one single sound in this video that sounds to me like how I'd pronounce "Tatsumaki Senpukyaku..."
      In the only street fighter I've played to this day... The one that was real popular on the SNES? I always thought Ryu was saying like hup hup hamoken... Or hut hut, or up up. Basically I just thought he was doing some weird breathes and then saying "hamoken." And then every once in a while he would do his little hup hup and say "horiyoken." Now, I say "every once in a while" because I was just randomly smashing buttons at this point, *sorry* OK!?
      I found out it was Hadouken and Shoriyouken.... I still have no idea what the hup hup was though... He did it before saying any of his moves, every time... At least in the one I played.

    Japanese VA actor pronounces the words "Tatsumaki senpuu kyaku" like "Tatsmak senpoo kyak", if you played this games on emulators and you sound check their voices with out the background music, SFX sound you will clearly hear them. And also the file formats and old school sound effects equipment they recorded it from made us hear less of sound they make. I'm from Philippines and we always refer it to "Batektekbaluken" 😂🤣😅😅
