    Being a BRP product you know the engineering, build quality, and reliability will be great as usual. Along with those traits you will also be required to pay a premium. Been on BRP products for a very long time and have never been disappointed other than price.

    Looks great but as usual with EV's the price is ridiculous. Can Am is charging the price of a top-of-the-line Honda Africa Twin and giving you performance similar to a $7,400 NX500. Brilliant!

    Let's see, it's slow, expensive with limited range. That's going to be a hard no for me. I'll stick with my ICE bike.

      i dont know i like the street style. i drive a 27y old kawasaki... its just ok for the 550cc bike it is. can one even imagine a electric bike after 20y of use.. is the batery even swapable? how are bev cars holding on with 15y+ usage? i gusee we will be swaping bateries or just junking it like i do with phones(every 3-5y)
      id like a electric honda 750 or suzu gs500 or something lile that does not look import from cyberpunk that had to make homologation😂

    I've owned 2 electric motorcycles, a BMW C Evolution scooter and a Zero SR-S and I've been driving EVs since 2011. The weight of these CanAms are surprisingly light but the 8kw batteries might explain that. Still, light weight is good. The motor/swingarm assembly on the other hand will handicap the CanAms because of unsprung weight. The enclosed chain drive is a good idea in some ways, but the enclosed belt drive of the BMW C Evolution was a bit better since service interval is a lot longer than the 10k miles of the CanAm. The Zero SR-S has belt drive which is fine for the road but belts become a liability for an off-road ride. Keep your ICE bike for your long adventures but I can almost guarantee that an electric motorcycle will "bench" your ICE bike for most of your short trips. The very low running and maintenance costs of electrics is not a myth. The EV "premium" you pay for the sticker price eventually gets offset or recouped IF you put a ton of mileage riding a motorcycle. Don't buy an EV if you won't use it. Don't buy an EV if your expected use doesn't match the bike's capabilities. Some things you might not realize: brakes will probably last 120k miles because of regen braking. I've never changed brake pads in any of my electric vehicles. An electric motorcycle going down a mountain will probably regain a big portion of the battery energy it used to go up a mountain because of regen. Also, regen will allow the bike to slow down going down a mountain without using too much mechanical brakes, so you save pads and rotors and your brakes won't fade from overheating brakes. While 0-60 times are one measure of acceleration, you will consistently achieve those times because you just twist the throttle to the stops. ICE bikes 0-60 times will vary because of throttle/clutch and gearbox and rider skill. In my experience, electric motorcycles are a lot quicker than what 0-60 times suggest. There is a Hayabusa in Trenton, NJ who can attest to how fast an electric scooter can be.

      An SV650 will beat the pulse in every category and in my entire lifetime I'll never spend the difference on fuel. When the battery dies in the pulse in 8-10 years it's a boat anchor. An ICE bike can last decades. I like the idea of electric but it's cost prohibited for anyone who doesn't have money to burn. Hopefully that changes down the road

    • @benparaan3618
      @benparaan3618 Місяць тому +1

      @@ansmerek Everybody's use case for their motorcycle(s) is different. Electric motorcycles for leisure where riding miles are limited, it would not be economically feasible to ride electric. For commuters that can fit the range limitations of an electric bike, it can be a money saver. I haven't had batteries replaced ever. Replacement is rarer than the public has been led to believe. The cost for replacement is quite a lot so that gets the public's attention. I'll say this much: a vehicle's battery capacity lasts longer when the design incorporates battery temperature control (cooling in summer and heating in winter).

    • @ansmerek
      @ansmerek Місяць тому +1

      @@benparaan3618 numbers in the real world don't always align with numbers on paper. I ride an $800 bike as a commuter. I only put minimal insurance on it which is roughly $500/yr. On a pulse my insurance will triple at least. I'll also have to store it in a heated place over the winter which I don't have. I won't save any money buying the pulse I will spend way more, and get a heavier slower bike with limitations my current bikes don't have. It doesn't make sense for me and I doubt it does for the vast majority of people. If the cost were closer to ICE bikes then it might start making sense. We are a long way away from that

    Drivetrain is very similar to a scooter, makes me wonder why they didn't lean into that more.
    I guess they could keep the overall styling if they do a down-spec model.

    The Zero S and SR play in the same price range while making way more power with longer range. I'm glad Can Am is building it though and I wish them success. I'm sticking with Zero for now.

    I hope BRP has ICE model range coming up behind these!

    The origin looks the part. But I’m waiting for the near future where I can ride out to somewhere with 15% left, solar charge while I camp/hike, and return home with juice I stole from the sun. Give me that, and I’ll give you my money.

    Does the low position of the front fender hurt the Origin's off road potential?
    For muddy situations, shouldn't the fender be higher so mud and heavy debris can pass through and not inhibit tire rotation?
    Someone, please educate me.

    • @thermobot8798
      @thermobot8798 Місяць тому +1

      The low fender enables better aerodynamics and in my experience does not really diminish your offroad capabilities, though in theory you are correct.

    The throttle regeneration trick is a bit concerning. But then, I have decades and decades of traditional throttle control. The idea that you would be going down hill and roll it forward and have resistance would be a definite riding adjustment. I know, you don't have to do that, but then, that is like saying, you don't have to coast when you are not accelerating.

    • @F1JV
      @F1JV Місяць тому

      It has a programmable mapping of this feature…off, on-low, on-medium, on-high + the manual use of the throttle forward. So…you will get used to it or just program a setting that suits your riding.
      Edit…or just turn it off completely.

      When you brake load transfers to the front wheel not the rear wheel. I'm wondering how effective this will even be, let alone how dangerous

    For some reason I thought final drive was going to be a rubber band. ski-doo still uses a silent chain though. The service would be mostly checking the tensioner I imagine.
    I was a little surprised when can-am announced making motorcycles again. The endurox bikes weren't really what interested can-am. The sea-doo was a more familial Jet-Ski.
    These bikes seem to fit BRP philosophy.

    Coming from a moto lover, and DUC boy. I would NEEEEEVER EEEEEEEVER even consider an EV two wheeled consumer electronic device. No thank you. I like motos because of the visceral feel they give me. You go EV and all that's taken away from you. Sure it might be quick, but its never fast and even then its utterly silent and with out vibration. Something i enjoy having on a moto. I like my Ducati's and Aprilias because of the thumping feeling they put down onto the pavement, the sound they make. Fk EVS. *mic drop*

      I’m 50/50 for ev motorcycles. I am going to get one for my first bike. The lower weight, lack of maintenance, very quiet, and no gears
      But gas bikes have better range, and can be filled up quicker. That is the two main things for me.
      The ev acceleration is worth every ounce for me, but the pros of gas bikes are in my mind.
