The whole town was crushed by her death. When I took the bus past that crosswalk a couple of weeks later I recognized my friend's dad, sitting sobbing, by the new stoplight.

There are predators out there, and when you're a child you don't realize you're being groomed. When I was underage (13-17), my only 'relationships' were with two women, both in their mid 20's. It took me a long time to realize that was fucked up. Kids need their space and to develop their own personalities but there should be a HUGE emphasis on what grooming means and the power dynamic between someone younger and an adult. There are too many people out there looking for someone vulnerable. Explain what abusive and manipulative relationships are to your child so they can identify them on sight. No matter wether who is talking to you is a man or a woman, explain that relationships are meant to be equal.

I just wonder how many times people cry wolf and the cops just become habituated. A large portion of the US cannot even accept covid being real. Idk why undertrained police would have a better grip on reality.

Yet another death that could’ve been voided if authorities did their job, but no, they’re too busy busting people for growing weed 🙄

BIG FACTS
“We caught some kids smoking pot and eating Cheetos habitually”
“ASSIGN EVERYONE “
Authorities? They are not parents nor babysitters. This is not their job. It's the parents job to raise the child and make and enforce household rules. And take privileges away when teens choose to disobey. Especially when they noticed a personality change. Huge red flag!
@@SunShinyDaysPlease they did take away privileges. they did everything they thought they could.
His mom cared so much and her worst nightmare came true :(
The host looks like a combination of Ryan and Shane
so true
Shhh... he is a perfect specimen of their lab experiments to create a child.
Can't unsee
@gagaswigs they were just pointing out something they noticed, calm down.
Looks like Ryan and Shane made a baby (edit he pretty pretty tho)
It is terrible to know that this is a possible reality when talking with people online. I cannot imagine how it feels to lose a child or person in such a way.
i met his mother last year and my heart will always go out to her
This is heartbreaking. I'm sure Lorin wishes she simply took his gaming stuff away and got him busy with other activities until the bond was weakened.
But she did. That POS bought Breck a phone (if I remember correctly) so he would be able to talk to him whenever he wanted.
They really did everything they could :(
I don't wanna victim blaming here but Breck didn't notice the negative influence that slowly ate him up. By trusting someone he never met before he had it coming. I don't understand how he could do everything that a guy he never met before told him to do.
@@athenanc. well, Breck was teenager that craved attention, and he could get it from someone "cool" and "successful" who was reeeeeeally interested in him, so it was at least fascinating for him I guess. Speaking from experience, as a 14 year old I would speak with someone who was 19 or 21 and didn't think it was weird, but someone 30+ interested in me would make me suspicious.
@@athenanc. "i dont wanna victim blame"
"He had it coming" ?????
@@athenanc. you ARE victim blaming. Fully grown adults can be duped by online predators as well, so expecting a young teenager to be savvy to these kinds of situations is not realistic. Your brain doesn't fully mature until your mid twenties, especially the part that helps you to predict and work out possible consequences to actions. Teenagers are more impulsive and prone to act on emotions than to think things through logically, so just don't blame the child. Put the blame where it belongs, on the sick, twisted perpetrator.
We need to teach as many people, mainly children about this. People of all ages can be in danger...
Yes but unfortunately children live in their own innocent protected bubble
Terrifying how parents can be so right sometimes. I used to think that they restricted me from doing a certain things because they didn't want me to enjoy my life the way i wanted but then as I grew up, I've come to realize how right they were and they tried to keep us away from things for our own good
No bro your parents are just manipulating you. Wake up.
@@anonyme8485 Caring about the safety of a child on a place where pedophila and groomers are rampant is manipulation? No, you wake up and realize how idiotic that sounds.
@@PaulBadman981 bro I am 22 years old and just realised how my parents ruined my self esteem and my future by always holding me back from talking to people I can't even hold a conversation because of how they brainwashed me. Because the British legal system is bullshit...I advocate for the death penalty via injections of mercury or caesium pellets

@Lucas Tran that is true, from what I understand. I support capital punishment when there is absolutely NO doubt of guilt.
@@GenXfrom75 i don't support death punishment as its not a good deterant and more expensive. But our police system is very hot and cold. You can be given a harsh sentence or you don't
@@alysbaah-danso5278 I'm not so concerned that it's not a deterrent. I just don't think everyone can be rehabilitated and those people, especially if they've hurt a child, just don't deserve to live.
Ok...he was way WAY to chill for having just killed someone
I agree, but people like him always will be sadly.
honestly....
Ummm once you get to the point you’re gonna kill kids and worship beheading videos you ain’t gonna get too bent out of shape by some more anatomy in front of you
I know a couple of killers (one is in a psych ward and the other was outside international statures who knows we're he is now)
Both were very calm about what they had done so it adds up in my experience
Probably because he's sociopathic? Neurotypical people don't respond to things like that in that manner, obviously.
so happy to see this case in such a big platform. I went to school with breck´s siblings and them and their family are so strong.
Internet has changed Society, changed the way we think. It’s both technologically advanced and scary at the same time
Thanks Kim

Exactly, Kim
You're right, glorious leader
they showed this every year for online awareness at school
yeah it's a serious case and not some cringy cyberbullying film that kids laugh at
this shows that people online can be dangerous
and they should keep doing that
@@tinychild7371 cyberbullying has led people to suicides (Amanda Todd for example, her video might still be up on youtube) it's a pretty heavy and important topic too, but I agree most of the films on that topic aren't made well.

i lived in Chelmsford when this case broke, i remember the day Lewis was in court, tv crews and paps surrounded the entrance to the building, people outside with police waiting for him to be sentenced, the court is in the town centre, they shut all the surrounding roads and shops out of respect for the family of Breck. it was an absolute tragedy.
This story made me so sad, i’ve heard stories similar to these over the years you know someone meets someone online who ends up killing them, but the thing that was so sad about this one is the mom did everything right but was shrugged off picture if the police took her seriously and investigated further my heart going out to Lorin and the rest of their family
We really have to teach our kids and siblings the warning signs on and offline.
My guess is that if they have more than 3 IQ they'll know when to back off some weird guy, never meet someone online if you haven't known them for the past 5 years without him saying maximum 3 weird things.
I mean we can but.... these are young kids, remember??? Kids usually think everyone they meet are great or assume the best. From my personal experience, lonely kids crave any interaction online. Plus, predators usually put on a very attractive/charismatic front. What happened in this case is that the police aka the adults who DO have the ability to detect sketchy people online and stop them, failed Breck and his family... there should be increased training and more strict reprimends for police to handle these cases more responsibly
I’ve been taught that my whole life. Hasn’t stopped me from almost getting into bad situations. Young teenagers are always going to be defiant regardless of how serious or dangerous the situation may be
@@herredward9277 You’re forgetting that most kids don’t think of the world as a dangerous place. And those kids who do know have the saddest stories behind how they learnt
@@herredward9277 most kids and teens dont have the life experience to identify the warning signs yet though, plus these predators are extremely good manipulators
As sad as this story is, I'm so happy that you talked about this. Nowadays so many influencers are outed as predators/groomers (Cryaotic, MiniLadd, Onision, Zoe Laverne, and etc.) and there needs to be more conversations around it. A lot of youtubers talk about it, but perhaps a media conglomerate like Buzzfeed will be part of jump starting this conversation.
I remember when this happened, Breck lived like an hour away from me and we had to have a whole school assembly about him and we were taken out of class for half the day to do internet safety
It’s actually really nice to see you talk about the grooming process. It’s something that, when seeing the signs, can prevent tragedy. Thank you so much for talking about it. Perhaps in future episodes you can continue to talk about grooming!
It’s heartbreaking the parents are still blaming themselves 😢😢
I can't believe someone pretended to be this guy's ghost on Instagram thats sick

ikr it's absolutely awful
@wcbraulio tf? How would you like it If someone pretended to be your deceased loved ones on social media?
@wcbraulio you're sick
@wcbraulio if u think smth like that is funny then u obviously don't understand how tragic this case is
This is why social media and the internet can be so toxic, RIP Breck 🙏❤️rest in peace
Lorin actually visited my school a few years back to spread awareness about online grooming. It was absolutely heartbreaking and I remember the entire auditorium was completely silent.
My mom never let me meet any of my internet friends when I was underage. Back then it made me so angry and I hated my mother for it, but now that I am an adult and often hear stories like this I am so grateful and glad that she protected me.
I feel sorry for the boy's parents because they knew that something was wrong but couldn't do anything anymore.
i- omg his mum came to my school to a talk about her son. what happened was so tragic :"(
i appreciate you guys not turning true crime into just some sort of "entertainment" and are now also incorporating and spreading very important awareness to your audiences
I remember hearing and reading this story. It inspired a lot of schools to have a online safety assembly. Everyone was spooked by this story.
I went to school with Breck for a while. We were even in after-school sailing club together. He was a kind boy, who didn't make fun of me with many of the other kids. I remember one time, we were paired up and had to sail a small boat together. We weren't close at all, but every time I hear his name or see a photo of him, I'm reminded of that mild spring day, out on that boat.
