"Broken wings" is such a beautiful song. Hearing just these few seconds of it took me straight back to being a teenager in the eighties. What I'd give to be transported back to that time.
When I was 14, Mr. Mister was my first concert (along with The Bangles as the opening act) in 1986. The guitar player added about two extra minutes of guitar solo at the end of Broken Wings when I saw them live. It was pretty damn cool!
Especially that song by Berlin, "Take my breath away". That song is truly breathtaking or at least it intends to be, but if 80s music really was breathtaking a lot of people would have died from lack of oxygen. So I'm not falling for this conspiracy theory.
What a great band, Mr. Mr. I work security for that MTV awards and got to sit with the guitarist from Mr. Mr. Steve Farris great personality that was fun.
Only a simple mind would think having some of the same words constitutes a theft. By that logic anybody can have a hit just by taking a fragment of an idea from a Beatles song. What a tosser.
After much thought I came to the conclusion that "Welcome to the Real World" is my favorite album of the 80s. The sound production is impecable. The band's compositions and performances are top notch. Steve Farris' guitar tone and playing made me go out and buy a Charvel guitar. They were ahead of their time and the album still sounds fresh and modern ❤ 🎸🤘🏼
Wow. I love hearing this song, it is just so beautiful. It doesn’t get old like many others do. And it ALWAYS- and I mean Always-takes me right back in time, and makes me remember the 80’s-which was such a great time (for me).
Adam, sometimes I can see who it is and sometimes I can tell by the song. But often I'll have no idea, so I'd love it if you would post up somewhere who we're seeing and listening to.
One of their best songs. I like the end of the song where Page is doing that humming part. Something Real is also a underrated song that should have been on top of the charts in the 80's Thanks Professor for your awesome interviews.
people often think drugs make you more creative when in fact they only give you the confidence to explore the creativity that already exists in you... and at the same time drugs can destroy your creativity by destroying your brain SO glad he made it through the other side of drug use. .
That was the LA music scene in the late 70’s into the 80’s. The Toto guys were heavy into it, that’s why they fired Bobby Kimball, he was shredding his vocal cords with too much coke.
Yes. And we should also lift up or recognize people who DON'T go down that path!! People deserve credit for turning their lives around, but how about the people who do what's right from the beginning,? And every addict influenced OTHERS. Even though THEY were able to overcome, how many others did they ruin?
Richard, Sadly, everyone went through those times before I met Jolynn, and soon after George G. I say saddly, not for the success that everyone embraced in those dark times, but rather, for the career that drugs took from me on the 86 tour and beyond. As we all know from our experiences, drugs hurt everyone. Those who use those who are also involved in their lives, to which I say God Bless you, Jo. My deepest apologies for the pain I brought into your life in those years.
My friend went to see Grace Jones in concert in the late 70s, early 80s. He told me she was so coked out, she couldn't perform, so she just let people touch her. He said as he was touching her she said, "Mama can't fly with a broken wing."
I’m glad they got off the drugs. But it does make me wonder if there’s any truth to the claim that certain hardcore drugs open up the creative center of the brain cuz so many amazing songs were written back then. Nowadays… not so much. 😝
And of course the verses made it all about a woman, a love affair, as so many pop songs do. Baby, can't understand, why we can't just hold on to each other's hands... ... And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
Those days need to come back. The weakest losers start to cry about it and ruin it for everyone. They're just baby men wanting the world to cry for them

EVERYONE was doing cocaine in the 80s it was as easy to get as a case of beer, everyone had it.
Yeah sure. Cokaine isn't addictive. Probably the person who told you that could say "I've been inhaling it 4 times a day every day for 20 years and I'm STILL not addicted to it".
It never ceases to amaze me how otherwise intelligent people justify to themselves heavy drug use. I just don't get it. 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe they say "I can handle it" and then get overwhelmed by it?
Enough with the Rich and Famous telling their tales for how hard drug addiction is when in reality their own promotion of a lifestyle the left many in poverty dead or in prison. 😡😡😡
I just don't understand. You do drugs, because everyone is doing it. I have been around drugs and alcohol my whole life. Crazy peer pressure. I never did, nor do I do drugs or drink.
"Broken wings" is such a beautiful song. Hearing just these few seconds of it took me straight back to being a teenager in the eighties. What I'd give to be transported back to that time.
So glad they recovered from deadly addiction. So many-too many-don’t make it.
Coke doesn't kill anyone, it's the messing with the side-effects that can kill!
It puts a whole new spin on this song, and it's a courageous admission to have lost a few years to addiction. It's an inspirational song, actually.

The music of the 80s was breathtaking
It was.
The 80s: _Lived ‘em. Loved ‘em. Miss ‘em._
Especially that song by Berlin, "Take my breath away". That song is truly breathtaking or at least it intends to be, but if 80s music really was breathtaking a lot of people would have died from lack of oxygen. So I'm not falling for this conspiracy theory.

Would of never thought! Richard Page and drugs. The guys are human snd glad there was a good outcome! Love Mr Mister! Beautiful song!
This is still a stunningly beautiful well written Song !
The pre-eminent soft rock song of the mid 80s. Still one of the few songs to turn up and sing along with when it comes on the car radio.
You realize the the lyric about broken wings is a direct steal from the Beatles' "Blackbird," right?
Agreed, in fact, it's playing in my head right now. 🤦♂️😂
@@hefeydd_ On good headphones, the instrumentals and audio production are stunning. I always whistle along to the synth past the two minute mark.
Only a simple mind would think having some of the same words constitutes a theft. By that logic anybody can have a hit just by taking a fragment of an idea from a Beatles song. What a tosser.
Fantastic album! So original and moving!
I’m glad they were able to get out of their addiction, and continued to make beautiful music. Be well. 💙🌎🎶

Oh-and by the way-I did alot of drugs then too.
Love that song. Thanks Mister Mister!

If you are on mobile click on the title text at the bottom; a description will pop up
@jgmiller804 thanks
Agree!
Great song with superb vocals
I toured with Steve George when he was with Jewel. Good dude.
I didn't know the story behind that brilliant song 😯
Thanks! 🖤
Big fan of this song and the clip. It's in my top 5 for the 80's. It's very different from the other 80's songs.
One of their best songs. I like the end of the song where Page is doing that humming part. Something Real is also a underrated song that should have been on top of the charts in the 80's Thanks Professor for your awesome interviews.
Love the song then. Still love this song.
I'm a huge fan of his early works with the band Pages.
Great album!!!
Of If I had a top 20 list of favorite songs coming out of the 80s that one would be in the top 15 for sure
Loved loved loved that album.

I remember being released and it got no traction. It got re released 8 months later and blew up. I thought, that's weird.
Mister Mister's "Welcome To The Real World" album is great too.
I love that song. The 80’s produced so much great music.
One of Rick Springfields good friends and I remember when MR MR Toured with Springfield.
Glad they made it through the Addiction.
I just wish these guys would realize early in life that’s it’s the wrong route to go down. So many are lost to addiction and it’s a shame.

That second Pages album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A great song from mister mr
These guys wrote a couple of strong synthesizer anthems but I didn’t know they were hard drug users : whoah
Great Song GREAT SINGER!!!!
My dad and brother both sustained massive damage to their hearts from using coke back then. I'm glad you quit.
I thought Broken Wings was about heartbreak...😏.....
Now we know!
@@ProfessorofRock goes to show we never really know what a song is really about....puts a new meaning to 'your own interpretation'
Well, it could be!
A heartbreak with drugs!
😂
Now the lyrics of the song make perfect sense.
It takes some people a little longer to learn how to live a better life, not just in music but in all areas.
The 80s! “Coke, it’s the real thing!” 😃

Cocaine is a hell of a drug! 🤣
Expensive too
Definitely expensive when it costs life. Never did it. I’ll stick with mj
@@amagickalmeliss Same here. I was quoting Rick James on the Eddie/Charlie Murphy skit on Chappelle's Show
Did not know broken wings was about Richard Page and drugs
Love this song so much
I'm definitely going too hear this song differently👍✌️❤️🙏🙏👊👊👊
It's also a good explanation as to why Richard became more of a Christian and a Christian rocker.
De-railed! Great way to put it!!
I could've been the 667th like, but I didn't wanna ruin it.
My first concert was Heart with Mr. Mister opening. I consider myself lucky.
Broken Wings a powerful song from the 80s
Broken Wings - the song of my life -
What's this song about???
Me: Drugs. Always drugs.
Huey Lewis is the one guy, who has drug in the title of a song, but the song is not about drugs.
'Enjoy the soft sounds of, Meester Meester.'
Still a banger
"What do you know about cocaine? Digame...!"

Did you say something Mister? Mister?
And of course the verses made it all about a woman, a love affair, as so many pop songs do.
Baby, can't understand, why we can't just hold on to each other's hands...
... And learn to fly again, learn to live so free
Freud used it, it's not addictive........... they obviously didn't hear the whole history of Freud (and Halsted).
He kinda resembles actor, Jeff Daniels -- not quite a full-on doppelgänger

Yeahhhhh, but the coke was amazing back then in the 80s, no lie.
Now, I will never indulge in anything because it's too dangerous...
❤
Does anyone think this any importance?

It's too bad Richards collaboration with Kevin Gilbert never happened could've been good
