    I am from the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria, Africa and it was today I learned that some Puerto Ricans are of African decent. I've always loved Puerto Rico, but this just makes me love it wayyy more❤️🔥

    Bomba was established in mayaguez

      What makes you say that? Loiza is like this most African influenced town in PR. The video itself tells you. I've been to both places and the people of Loiza really embrace their African culture and ancestry. Not so much as like in Mayaquez.

      @@koolmanlou ... loiza may be the most african influenced town but there were africans and there descendants all over the island and while african culture was marginalized it was actually pervasive in every way from religion to food and music ...I love Liza because they reflect not only african customs but the customs of the tainos that intermarried with them as all over the island...and unlike the puerto ricans throughout the island they in many ways were the most guarded about puerto rican culture and maintaining our heritage but it originated in Mayaguez...that being said music didnt develop in silos and there were drums all over and the rhythms of bomba came from africa and were dispersed throughout the diaspora...sica and yuba is a bomba rythm in p.r. but those rhythms are all alive through out the diaspora so I'm sure bomba was developing in Loiza somehow simultaneously

      I think it would be more correct to say that Bomba is a GENRE of music, and that there are different rhythms all across the island, and different families cultivated their own expressions of the music, thus sometimes creating their own rhythms. Mayagüez in particular had a lot of influences from “Cocolos” that came from other nearby islands, especially Haitians and Dominicans. There are some songs that have Kreyól mixed in the lyrics. One rhythm that Bomberos associate with Mayagüezano origin is the rhythm of Holandé.

      @@Obatalasito85 agreed the basic rhythms are not only in p.r. they exist within the diaspora and in the continent what ever came to be crystalized as bomba I have been told by old timers was in mayaguez...that being said as I said nothing happens in silos and I for one can only tell u what I've been told my contemporary experience with bomba is southern and north eastern

    Puerto Ricans are the least racist (when compared to Dominicans) because Boriquans know their history and are proud of their African ancestry. Dominicans are not. BTW: Bomba dance/rhythm is primarily from Yoruba, the Igbo, and the Kongo tribes in Africa!

    As a puertorrican of mostly european descent this does not represent me. This is only a part of our culture mainly the black population.

      They specified Puerto Ricans of African descent. As you said, this isn't for you but for those who share and are proud of their African ancestry.

    • @9834-c2g
      @9834-c2g Рік тому

      @@shanchan8247 Yes, but they try to push the narrative that this represents "Puertorrican" culture when it doesn't. It represents afropuertorrican culture. Puertorricans of European decent are represented by danza, seis chorreao, cuarto music etc. That's my point.

      @@9834-c2g tbh the same could be said for those of euro descent those traditions you mentioned tend to be more: “euro-Puerto Ricans” at the end of the day it still falls under Puerto ricans and goes to show just how diverse we are
