- In creating a prequel to one of the most popular TV series of all time, ‘House of the Dragon’ producers faced an ambitious task. ‘Game of Thrones,’ based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ fantasy novel series, wowed audiences worldwide during its run, ending in 2019 after eight seasons. The prequel series tells another story of the fight for the Iron Throne: that of Targaryen vs. Targaryen and dragon vs. dragon 200 years before the events of the Emmy-winning original series. Cast members Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Fabien Frankel, Milly Alcock, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Graham McTavish join co-showrunners and executive producers Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik to speak with Rotten Tomatoes correspondent Nikki Novak about their epic undertaking. ‘House of the Dragon’ premieres on Sunday, August 21 on HBO.

I was gonna comment this. They talked as if they are their roles.
When Paddy said that the biggest conflict of Viserys was that he never should've been named the next king, I almost cried. That was so sad, and looking back at season 1 when Viserys was still alive, you can somehow feel that. Viserys did his best, but with Paddy's answer, it all made sense why Viserys did everything he did as king. 😥
The way Steve and Eve talk to each other makes it seems like they've been married for years. Great chemistry!
Yess hahah and look how close they sit and let's not forget that hands holding at the premiere.... I'm not saying they are together or anything (it's their business anyways) but they seem very close and it's so cuute 😍

@@Weeby_historian They're not married. In one interview Steve relates the story of the first day of shooting and then going home to his partner to tell him or her about how lovely it was working with Eve.

I love how Olivia watches Emma when Emma is talking. Like, she’s just enamored with her. I also like Emma’s description of them really wanting reunification at the heart of it, but being too stubborn to say it. I think a lot of us have been there.

OK, the cast is amazing and I'm 100% in love with Emma D'Arcy, but the star in this video is the interviewer. One of the best interviews I have ever seen.
I’ve seen other people say this too but she was an excellent interviewer! Asked really thought provoking and intriguing questions, you could tell some of the cast were thrown off guard by them! Very rare to see and sure beats the usual ‘hOw dOeS iT fEeL tO bE iN tHe WoRlD oF gAmE oF tHrOnEs?’ 😂

I love how they talk about High Valyrian and dragon anatomy and training and every little detail like it's the real world lol, that means they take it seriously, I love it

These were great interviews. Often times these Hollywood cast type interviews are very superficial, but I really liked how the interviewer delved into the backstory and the characters a bit more than is typical. And I was also very impressed with the answers the cast gave. Quite a number of them felt like they really understand the story quite well. Even Graham McTavish at the end felt like he really knew quite a bit about the two kings he served under and his role as Lord Commander of the King’s Guard. I think it bodes well for the show.
She really knows the universe that is why she knows what to ask. Some interviewers just research their names and the roles they play and ask the most generic questions because they have no idea about the show they’re talking about
I was surprised her looks completely fooled me. Very pleasant.
The interviewer did a great job because she educated herself, if she wasn’t a fan already, and asked questions that we as fans would have. Kudos to her and well done.
Exactly, I really appreciate McTarvish's knowledge. His type of character can be very bland. But, the actor's understanding of the events in the story means that he can act in a way that wouldn't be available to him otherwise.

This is an actual good interview with good questions, it's a miracle. I really like the chemistry between all the actors that I've seen so far, they look like they're having a good time.
Hopefully it will stay the same! Season 2 in 2024 no? (with so much time, their chemistry might not be there again)
(plus those are interviews and actors can play a role for the press too, if they don't enjoy that part of their job - most of the time, the one doing it just got a preview 2 days before and questions written for them so unlike that video it often feels dull to watch and surely the same for actors who have to answer boring questions as it's their job too)

@@ocsjc13 yeah. He is really good looking but he is not as expressive. I mean lots of characters are non expressive but i don't believe his acting to be true. He is pale in front of other actors in the show.
this interviewer slays, it’s so good when it’s someone who knows what they are talking about and genuinely care
Rhaenyra and Visery's have a very "daddy's little girl" relationship, you've all (Paddy, Emma, Millie) pulled off seeing that on screen very well. The just absolute love between them is undeniable, even before he saw so much of his wife in her - which only then strengthened that unbreakable bond. I think that time they spent apart really destroyed both of them and their subsequent personality shifts and then reunion show that beautifully.

It's nice to see Paddy saying his character should never have been king, watching Viserys on screen it's obvious he makes for a terrible monarch and he's too swept away by his own emotions to get out of his head and think outside of it, and it's nice to see how intentional and in sync the actor is with the character.
Emma and Olivia....so intense! They're such emotional actors.

One thing I think we can gather from a few of these interviews: Otto Hightower is going to be playing a role similar to Littlefinger...a master manipulator.
Yeah in the books I’d say he’s basically a mix of parts of Littlefinger,Tywin and Pycelle
Definitely an ambitious man, I do think he will manipulate Alicent aswell during the first season.

when the interviewer mentioned the leaf-blowers to them, as someone that's lived in the UK it was amusing to hear Matt Smith say "yeah lot of henry's blowing at you" referencing henry the hoover 🥺🥺🥺♥

@23:05 when Milly Alcock is talking about saying "dracarys" and how sad it is to say at that moment, and how she "doesn't want to say it", my theory is that she says it during the funeral of her late mother, Aemma Arryn (King Visery's first wife), whose corpse is burned to ashes (as in Targaryen tradition) but in this case by dragon fire.
I wanted tonwrite the same thing. It must be that. We have shots ofnthe funeral.

Steve and Eve portray a true partnership in their marriage. How did their characters meet? They have ships, control trade routes and DRAGONS.

@@toasterlordtoasterlord4224 once again - hated season 8. But you see, I have a brain, so I use it sometimes. I had this realization that if GOT had problems...such as:
1. David Benniof and DB Weiss
2. incomplete source material
3. an uninvolved author
...and you fix those problems by
1. Getting someone who KNOWS and LOVES the books and the author, like Ryan Condal to run and write the show
2. Have completed source material
3. Have an actively involved author who is happy with a show on his works for the first time since GOT season 4
...you start to see how thinking this will end badly is in fact the more idiotic thing to do. Jumping on the blind hate wagon for no reason other than tWo OtHeR iDiOtS wHo HaVe NoThInG tO dO wItH tHiS sHoW is telling.
I personally disagree. They look off, like uncanny-valley types of weird. Feels like they got dollar bin versions of actors that should have been cast.

Watched Rings of Power last trailer... it doesn't look like half bad as people made it out to be, sadly most of them are mad there's POC in it.
