hmm yeah, it might be on the reviewer, or the eye of the beholder. The Author above does seem to suggest that the 'DL' photos are 'Decent' photos, but not the best photos. One of my photos, that I thought was so amazing got slapped with 'Dl' by Shutterstock, but then they proceeded to 'fully approve' others that I thought were not as good. I'm newer to this upload business thing. And maybe we are all newer to what 'DL' means, that's why no one has quite got a handle on it..
Also please advise what what is “no release info” provided next to all the DL images and the one approved image. What is this? Where do I get the release data form or what to do? The approved photos are of wildlife in a park.
Also, I just realised my description very much sounds like an AI prompt. Maybe that's why they take it as "data licensed", coz the "labelling" will easily train the AI. I'm changing my description and reupload it. We'll see how it goes.
I just started this, and I must say that I noticed that if I uploaded two images that were almost exactly the same, maybe a slightly different angle or lighting scheme, ONE of them would pass and one would fail, or become eligible for data licensing. Whether it was shot on a hight end Canon Camera or my iPhone, seemed to make no difference. So Im not sure any kind of quality is actually being assessed here, technical OR aesthetic.
As of 2/19/2024: Anybody noticed that 'Data-Licensing' content has been missing for weeks. When asking support they claim it is a bug, but I'm wondering if it is something more complicated.
No…Shutterstock is full of shit. They use AI to judge whether the photos are good or not. It isn’t just the photo but it’s about whether or not the caption “accurately” describes the action in the photo or not. I could list a thousand examples to prove the site is full of bs, but I don’t really need to. After months or several weeks even, I tried uploading my favorite photo again for the second time, writing EXACTLY the same description, thinking it was most likely going to be rejected…but then it was actually accepted…just like that. I don’t know WHERE you’re getting your information from…but saying that the photos are eligible for data licensing because the photos are not good enough is completely false.
It is clear that Data-Licensing is shutterstocks way of saying your photo is Good, but "it could be better" or "does that really stand out?". I think the differences in how the same photo is judged, is all based on the individual "Human" making the assessment. I'm not on board with your AI thought.
@@robertkoernke588 "abstract" is another way of saying it may be good but advertisers may not be able to use this for anything so likely it won't sell so they can still use it to train AI they have with it which falls under data licensing.
I agree, I have had shots rejected due to foreign language character sets that were actually natural patterns, also, I had a photo rejected for being AI generated when it never went anywhere near AI and actually won me a prize through the Royal Photographic Society here in London so I reserve judgement on it, especially as I re-uploaded 2 weeks later and it was accepted (with the same wording and description). I have to say that the lack of viewing statistics and stuff like that sort of tell me that it is a money spinner for the people at Shutterstock and a bit of a con for the contributors. I guess the big question is are there any other competitors that actually pay or are they all just a void of data collection that benefit the website owners and nobody else.
What? Data licensing, under their terms, means they're going to use for AI training. I don't think this means you did BAD photos. It means, to me, you did 'ABSTRACT' photos, that are not ideal in their minds for advertisers who would want to buy photos. So they can still be used for AI learning companies. They will not list these on the site anywhere though so just delete them, they won't sell.
Also please advise what what is “no release info” provided next to all the DL images and the one approved image. What is this? Where do I get the release data form or what to do? The approved photos are of wildlife in a park.
This kind of conflict your other video about this. Anyway, Shutterstock is the worse when it comes to either approve and give contributors royalties. They get paid literally penises for their photos. I am with 6 platforms (with the best being Adobe Stock) and I am building steady portfolio and income on ALL of them except Shutterstock. I am to th point of giving up with them or just focusing on video only since my videos rarely do get rejected with them.
@@BardhokNdoji No, I was actually referring to some awkward spelling. "They get paid literally {what now?}" I laughed out loud for quite a long time. Then got into the car, and laughed some more. But that's nice to hear about 'shutterstock'.
Well i “submitted” some pics to Adobe Stock and they said, could take up to 6 weeks for approval… will i actually hear from them? Cis nothing so far.. prob… 5 weeks ago!
Thank you. Now I have blocked for all types of licensing indicated. I am a new contributor. On my portfolio, all those images that have been approved for data licensing have a 21 day notice put on them including one, only one, photo that was approved. What does this mean? Should I delete all the rest and how do I the one approved photo and to where so that it can start selling. Kindly help! I will be most grateful.
I was discussing with shutter stock and learnt that they have given instructions to reviewers that if they want to reject any asset they have to mark t eligible for data licensing so that such marked asset will not be accepted after resubmission also so in short Shutter stock wants to restrict the number of incoming assets. Probable reason is they are facing crunch in number of reviewers.
Well Shutterstock reviewers have to sign a NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT regarding whatever they are "TOLD" so if you "HEARD" from someone means that is fake news 🤣
Thank u for the info. I understand it means I need to work more on my skill but instead if deleting, can't I just leave it in shutterstok? At least there is still possibility to generate income from it
Yes my friend. Shutterstock is stealing your work now. Good luck with opting out from DL. They will still take pictures into DL after you opted out...... Stop submitting your work to shutterstock. Have some respect for your hard work
@siekierkaKam I kinda guessed that DL is about keeping hold of images after having it done to me. I don’t understand why they would keep the images if they are not good enough. That’s a cop out. There was nothing wrong with the quality of my photos uploaded. I can guess now that the DL is also linked to AI that they are pushing. No doubt there is an ulterior motive in this I can seen where this is going. I’m fairly sure that AI versions of contributors photos will appear that we will not be fully compensated for. My first time trying SS and maybe I’m wasting my time already. 🤔
Hi, I wanted to ask you something, I have some photos approved for the market, only yesterday a photo taken with a smartphone but of excellent quality was selected for the data license, is it a defeat or will I still receive some compensation?

Its not the quality of the image as much as it is the content of the image and how it could help those developing AI

No such number limitations. Quality over quantity
