- Jonathan Farmer, of Midnight Sun Custom Flies, is OPST's sole supplier of quality steelhead, salmon and trout flies. He ties such favorites as Intruders, OPST Prawns, Graboid and Mini-Me Graboid Leeches, and Kryptonite Sculpins, among others. We sat down with him to hear just a little about his philosophy on fly tying. He's a one man operation, and every one of his premium, durable flies is tied one by one, right here in the USA.
I own and have fished a bunch of Mr. Farmer's flies. You will not find any better.
doggyllama1 thank you!!!!! 🤘
QUESTION >>>> What is that awesome fly the looks like an Octopus at the 1:30 mark ? ? ?
Good day. Please show step by step tying intruder. 1:13
stellar.
interstellar
Thanks guys!!!!
Well said. I myself like to fish cool flies. If ya got it. Tie it.
What flies would you reccomend for Colorado Brown and Rainbow trout?
thank you
damn hard to beat a mini graboid IMO. Just try to match color to the local forage and get it in the right level of the water column and hopefully in front of a fish.
I’d have to second OPST’s response. If I were streamer fishing in CO, I’d start with the kryptonite or a micro intruder and I would definitely throw a mini me in the mix. Thanks for watching and tight lines Billy!
Thanks Aaron!!
Question: do you use the same hair on the front of a kryptonite sculpin as you do in the tail?
Hey Chris. I do use pine squirrel for the head. I tie a wounded or flesh eating kryptonite sculpin that has a white head and I use rabbit because white pine squirrel is not available as far as I know. When using rabbit there is a very fine line in creating too much bulk and over powering the head of the fly. Using pine squirrel for the head is tricky at first and a bit meticulous at times but I use a Stonfo clip that helps a lot! Hope this helped and happy tying!
