    Guys. I've watched over 100 videos on fabricating a sheet metal brake and this one is BY FAR the best, most straightforward build. While watching all these other videos I've collected the best of them all and I'm about ½ way through my own build. I was quite happy (and surprised!) that my design is virtually identical to yours! You are obviously much more experienced than I so I am very pleased that I'm heading down the same trail that you took!
    I especially appreciated the way you mounted the top piece of angle iron and the tightening bolts - it is MUCH more logical and user friendly to have a flat plate for the springs and tightening bolts.
    The key difference in my design is that my main mounting plate is angle iron and I ripped the downward pointing piece. I then welded the ripped piece to form my own "C" and drilled and tapped it so I could have tightening screws that secure the entire brake under the lip of my welding table. It's worked out quite well!
    I was able to craft DIY hinges using ¾" round tube and ½" round bar which was nice, since I don't have a metal lathe. (That tool is wayyyyyy down the list for me).
    QUESTION: If you had used COLD-rolled steel versus HOT-rolled steel, do you think you'd still have the bending problem? My *guess* (I'm still new to welding) is that at 60" you would need that matching bottom gusset either way.

      Thanks for the comment and checking out the video Jim! Thank you so much for the words about our build. We wanted to share our build to the pubic and help others out. So hearing that this video is helping you out is so cool! And it makes us want to keep creating better content for everyone. But to your question about the cold rolled steel, I would think it would help the flex in the middle since I think it’s around 20% stronger then what we used. But, since the brake is long at 64” my dad still thinks it would still flex if you were bending a thicker piece of sheet metal. If you had a smaller length brake like a 48” and used the cold rolled steel I think that would work super well! But Jim thanks again for the comments we really appreciate all the feed back.

    very nice build been looking at all youtube brakes video's your is the best and simple!! i been looking for a real brake just can't pull the plug on the price lol it would be awesome to see a 2.0 verision , thanks for your video time on the construction, iam going to start mine this weekend base on your design.

    Ok, I’ve watch many home builds ..this one I like the best. 50in was my goal with feet. Subscripted to keep abreast of further upgrades good job

    Nice build! Y’all took into account several things that a lot of YT diy sheet metal brake videos overlook. What was wrong with the Lincoln? And y’all spooked me using that plasma cutter with two plastic gas jugs close by! Keep building!

    I was interested in seeing how you did this and I noticed, like your oven, the bench is your base, but is there something somewhere that described that bench? What size, how you made it, etc? thanks for the video!

    What's the thickest you've bent with it? I need to put a few bends in 0.25in 5052 Aluminum 18.625in at their widest point.

    Nice build, it's quite long. But how to prevent the fat angle in the middle?
    Is 3/8" a bit too thin for the angle piece? Handles too wide? Better support needed?

      Brake 1.0 is already in thought. There are a couple things we are going to change and fix on the design. The first being, change the 64” angle where it connects to the hinge and change that to a thick plate so it would fix that “fat” radius in the middle section and it would allow you to create closer multiple bends. We would also add a thick plate to the bottom of the top angle die to create a triangular box so the pressure points are not on the “toes” of the angle. Second, the handles can be moved wherever but, for this brake being so long we wanted spread the stress points out. If you decide to create around a 48” brake it would be the perfect build with our design. With ours being so long it does need some more reinforcement.

      @@alwayssomethinggarage794 seen another video of a guy grinding off the edge of the top angle iron and adding another piece. He also cut the bottom one into pieces so he could make a box brake. Basically same concept as yours.

      Haha yes, when it’s below freezing. Man, it gets cold in there! But we have a large propane heater that does the job. Just have to stay close to it and keep moving around haha. Thanks for checking out the video!

    I think your top brace is at the wrong position, it should be straight down on top of the angle instead of tilted back that way. It is currently pushing forward instead of down. ..........Just my opinion.

      You are absolutely right! Always think opposing forces. If something is bending or bowing your metal up, you must have an opposing force to hold it down.

      @@STRATTONSGARAGE But if you have it clamped down square you will struggle to bend 90 degree let alone the 120 or so allowed with this.

    You were a bit greedy with width. I have made one 4 foot wide with 2 stays in the bracing and it bends 16g easily with no real difference in length.
    Other wise very similar though I am using channel iron for the base
