Tasha I needed this in more ways than you know. I'm one of those eclectic people like I'd go thrifting and if I liked it I bought it. The mindset of I'll figure out somewhere to put it. Fast forward when I go thrifting now I donate by the car full and don't even go in the stores. It's ridiculous the amount of stuff I have. As I purge and try to figure out my style I love how cohesive yours look and find myself leaning towards more neutral colors. So thank you for these steps. I really appreciate it. Hope you're doing well. Looking forward to the next one.
I totally understand, as you saw! It does feel nice to clear things out, but I guess it's better not to amass that much in the first place haha. So glad you're here following along! 😊
Your journey really resonates with mine. I’ve noticed that new items in my budget often lack quality, so it’s inspiring to see the makeovers and ideas you and other designers share with us.
Love this. It's so true; if you don't have a large budget sometimes if you're buying new your choices are limited at best. That is why I love thrifting because it opens up the possibility of getting really quality items for a fraction of the cost. I'd so much rather have a secondhand truly quality piece (like the coffee table in my living room) that I thrifted and sanded, than a mediocre new piece that doesn't have that quality.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I needed this today!!! I am in the midst of a cleaning/purging mess & I felt like I was going in circles ... literally {& in my head}!! I finally found a paint color that I like for my bedroom {this is where I am starting} ... that is after bringing home 4 different colors that were WRONG in so many ways, #5 was the winner!! So you helped me decide that there are so many things that I really can purge that will get me closer to the goal of getting my bedroom completely done ... & then on to the next area!!! Thank you, thank you ... THANK YOU so much!!!
Absolutely! It feels so much better afterwards 🤗 I have a few area to work on this coming up week so I will definitely be filling the trunk with donations. Thanks for watching! (And glad you found your paint color!)
This video is so well done-as a designer who has taught…the step by step concepts BEHIND the results is rarely seen; i shared it with my husband who does not have a creative background so that he can understand “how we first analyze & curate to achieve”!!!thank you!
Thank you Tasha…this video was so helpful AND encouraging. I recently retired and am throughly enjoying cleaning/purging and “rediscovering” my home. For many years my style was just as you say a hodgepodge of if I liked it I tried to make it fit. Love the advice of trading out the half full box for an empty one…reverse psychology at its best!
This is the best video you have produced! I enjoy and seek all your videos, but this video is the most relatable. Your honesty and outline in delivering your message are quite impactful. THANK YOU! You are really on to something with this, Lady! Good for you! Thank you, for sharing and the transparency with us!
I love this video Tasha That's my biggest problem is trying to figure out what my style is so I will take your tips and use them wisely I do go to the thrift store a lot but until I get a style I'm going to stop doing that till I know what I'm doing Thank you for sharing with your viewers. Have a beautiful day! 🥰
I loved this video! It’s really giving me things to think about and how I need to Declutter but I also realize that the things that do go with my static even though I haven’t quite nailed down what that is my style. Those are the things I leave out and enjoy season after season and just move around the house because I love them so much. I can’t wait till the next one!❤❤❤
So true! And you're right that those things that you tend to leave out all the time might give you a clue as to what your underlying style should be. Thank you for watching! 😊
Love your style and also presentation. Great tips! I have never really had a plan to decorate my home but you have inspired me! Thank you for all the groundwork and sharing!
Thank you so much. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. It makes so much sense. I will definitely keep all this in mind. I was beginning to clutter my house with drafted items.
Just found your channel; clear direction and examples make it easy to understand your talking points. I am a thrifter as well and recently I realized that less can be more after moving into my first home! I look forward to more content from you.
Good morning Tasha, I recently subscribed to your channel and I have truly enjoyed watching your videos. I find them very inspirational, informative and enjoyable. I especially enjoyed this video content and look forward to part two. Definitely needed this video for some motivation, Thank you🙏🏼! 💕Dee
This is indeed very heartwarming and very wonderful and very beautiful and very adorable and this brings back great memories of when I use to be a 90s kid and an early 2000s kid and I am a new subscriber as well:).
Thank you for this video. Your tips were exactly right. I love to thrift and I have certain rules for myself. I have to know exactly where I will put it, does it fit my style or can I DIY it to fit my style, and do I really need it. I never buy something because "it's such a good deal.". Those so-called good deals can sit in the closet a long time. I always look forward to your videos.
You have been a tremendous help to me in my own process of transitioning slowly into figuring out what I love and taking my time to piece it together. I still have a way to go… it ‘s been a challenge but a fun process!
THANK YOU TASHA !!! I really needed some “how to get started and motivated by purging video”. I have collected and continue to collect many things over the years that I love, but I realize now that I have to downsize these collections. I need to consider how to display the very special and sentimental items. I also need to reorganize the useful items. I’m trying to become less of a “maximalist”. Watching your videos is so helpful and informative, you are an inspiration and your ideas are always beautiful❣️
Tasha, you have a wonderful eye for design. Thank you for sharing your talents with the rest of us! I do struggle with finding my style. I think I’m stuck between centuries but I do know I need to declutter! It’s so hard to declutter your parent’s and yourself at once! I’m a work in progress! 😅 Thanks for your wise guidance.
Well, you can definitely mix design styles! But it still should be intentional. I think the rule I've heard is you should do about 70/30. So let's say you like mid-century modern and you also like transitional style. In that case, you might do 70% transitional style and incorporate some mid-century modern pieces for about 30% of your decor or furnishings. You would still have a cohesive color scheme through it all though. It's when you have a little bit of glam, a little bit of mid-century, a little bit of traditional, a little bit of industrial, a farmhouse piece here or there... that things look iffy 😂
Thank you, part of the problem is I have recently moved my parent’s household to my home. They have moved to assisted living. I’ve donated, sold, and given away a lot. I’m also selling lots of my things as well. I do want to keep some so decluttering and making choices on what to display is hard. I need to rotate things in and out rather than to display too many at once. Easier said than done! 😅
Thank you for this well thought out information. Recently, I have been purchasing items I see at thrift stores or garage sales that add more stuff to my home. I am currently in the purging phase of cleaning out. Your video is encouraging. The first three steps will be very helpful in my re-decorating journey.
Love the cat inspector! I’m a bit of a hodgepodge, due to liking mid century modern AND older antiques. It definitely helps to use storage items to keep things you need handy, yet not sitting out.
Hi Beautiful Tasha...so you are self taught. We are an estate sale couple. I used to buy everything. I had way too much in our home. I do love a collected artsy home, but over the last couple of years we have removed too much furniture, decluttered , and even though I have lots of stuff I absolutely love I dont have it out all at one time. I think with the bedrooms I have learned less is more and sleep is better when the rooms are calm. I dont like bright colors anymore in a bedroom. You are an inspiration. I definitely have gone to houses where I don't feel the love of the home. I had bought a beautifup little table at Goodwill for 8.99. I put it in the hallway. Everytime I went by it, I thought Tasha would not like that table there. I moved it in front of the living room window, and love it again. Have a great rest of the week. ❤❤❤❤
Yes definitely self taught and still have a ways to go! I'm laughing about your little table😹 I'm still decluttering and actually have the SUV loaded to donate more today if it's not too stormy (hurricane Helene is giving us lots of rain here in central NC). So happy my junk drawer, dining hutch, and baking cabinet are all decluttered and re-organized though!
I’m very impressed by your channel. I’ve watched most of your videos and I love your style and talent. I’ve gone to design school and know you are going to prosper the way you deserve. Keep at it and you’ll succeed big time.
Love this series! Can't wait to see the next video. And, if I'm being honest, I don't hate your carpet at all. It's giving me sisal vibes. You've done an amazing job with working around what you can't change for now.❤
Thanks! That was my consolation too--at least it's a neutral carpet even if it's a bit beigey... At least it's not like, mint green or royal purple 🤷🏼♀️
Tasha!! This is so helpful! You are the best, and are so talented. I have missed a bunch of your videos, it’s been a challenging year for me health wise. I started following you last year at Christmas time and I’m so happy to see how much your channel has grown!! You deserve it. I love this kind of video, keep em coming!❤
Thanks Cami! I'm sorry to hear it's been a rough year 😔 imI had a very bumpy summer health wise myself. I remember your name from your previous comments; I had just started up the channel last fall. Thanks so much for sticking with me 🤗 Prayers for you and your health 🙏🏼
“Yay!” From Indiana! 😂. I just started decorating two years ago. (Before that, my approach was books and educational items for seven kids in a small home!) I honestly knew almost nothing. But I have been poring over YT videos to learn-and going to thrifting half price sales every chance I get. You have done it again-taught me step-by-step. ❤️
👋🏼👋🏼 Hello! I learned so much from UA-cam! I guess that's part of the reason I landed here once I wanted to start sharing with others. Thanks very much for watching ☺️🤗
Now this is great channel for me. I like that it’s on a “thrift budget” not everyone can always afford the high end buys. I love how your style ideas give direction! And I really love that you include scripture…beautiful.
Such a great informative video. I have been following you since a while. Simply loved how beautifully your home is coming together and looks very hogh end. ❤
Excellent video. I'm just learning how to bring my home to a more cohesive style, and I'm in my 70's! You young women are teaching me so much. My husband and I are having so much fun going to estate sales to find unique and some very practical things for our home. I love your tip on hiding those useful items out of sight. I look forward to part two!
I’m a mid-century modern “minimalish” type of person. I have a roommate that is an ”everything” works type of person. We’ve kinda settled on a mid-century design in furniture & cottage core in decor. I’m constantly weeding it out & my roommate just brings it back in. LOL I love your steps 1-3. In my own room, I’m beginning that process with everything, clothing, closet organization, bathroom organization, furniture. I’ve finished my bathroom as far as I can right now. Just having everything decluttered, organized, things thrown out or donated that I’ll never use made me feel so much better about the room & myself. I’ll be more intentional with my bedroom & follow those first 3 steps more closely. I think it will keep me from getting “lost” in the process. I found this video very helpful. Thank you.
You're right, it feels so nice once you declutter a space! Even if it's just one cabinet at a time. And for some reason the bathroom and kitchen are two places that tend to get cluttered quickly, at least for me. I have some more purging to do today ☺️
Great informative video! My home is French country with a little eclectic thrown into the mix. I’m very intentional with what I bring into my home. I also believe that baskets and spray paint are your best friend when decorating. 😬😊
Hi Tasha! 😃👋 I just listened to your video and what a blessing it is! Clearly, everyone is feeling the same by my quick scroll through their comments!🥰 I appreciate you sharing your thought process, that I'm actually in the middle of a "purge" process. I've recently been laid off 💔😞 and doing this is truly therapy for my mental state. I've been juggling this along with job hunting, which is VERY stressful all on its own. Anyways, I wanted to say Thank You!🥰 God bless you, my friend❤
Prayers for a great new job very soon! 🙏🏼 And thank you; I agree it's such a nice feeling to declutter and take things out of your home and enjoy that space. It really affects your well-being I think! Thanks so much for watching 🤗
What a wonderful video. Thank you so much. Definitely needed this in my life. You have such beautiful taste your home looks amazing and I completely understand my home right now is a hodgepodge of stuff. A lot of furniture that my mom wants to give me that I don’t want to get rid of, but needs updating so thank you for this video. I wish you can come to Tennessee and help me decorate my house, your style is amazing.
Thank you for the kind words. It's been so gratifying and also humbling to go from knowing nothing about interior design to seeing things slowly turn around and start to become cohesive and intentional. I'll be doing a little more purging this week 😅
This is got to be one of the best videos I have ever seen on decorating. As I was watching the video I was running around my house removing things and replacing them with something else. Oh my goodness this was such a huge help. God bless you. I just found your Videos tonight I am a new subscriber!💙🙏💙🙏💙🙏💙🙏
AGREE: purge, purge, purge first. This is totally THE key. When you start with a blank room, you can see how to fill it with only what goes together. What I do is I’ll find a picture of a room I love everything about. I then start collecting as similar an item as I can EXCLUSIVELY from the thrift store (otherwise my husband wouldn’t let me do this) and I start assembling the room. This takes a while but as I find the right pieces I immediately (same day) get rid of what I’m replacing the new piece for. If it’s a chair, I get rid of the old chair as soon as I get home and the new chair comes in…..that way I’m not tempted to keep anything outside of my picture. I work one room at a time. If I find pieces at the store I know I want for other rooms, I get it but I don’t bring it home until I start doing that particular room. I hold the piece in a storage unit until I’m ready. In 4 years, I have completely redone 6 rooms in my house (floors, ceilings, walls and every stick of furniture in between), exclusively from thrift store finds. Not one piece of furniture or deco costs over $100, except for the couch. I’m currently working on my 7th room. My goal is to do 2 rooms a year but some take longer than others. I’ll finish the 7th before Christmas and will start the 8th in January. After that, I have 5 more to go (another 3 years) until the entire house is complete AND cohesive all the way through!! So far, all the neighbors & family have been in and everybody oohs & ahhh and says it looks like a magazine……which, technically it is because that’s what I followed to get here!! LOL TIP: spend the bulk of your money (and time) on the bones of the house….. flooring, lighting, walls, trim, windows, doors, fixtures and built-in. Get those right first, then add the jewelry (furnishings). Choose timeless colors carefully and in keeping with the style of your house type (Georgian, Craftsman, Cape Cod, Farmhouse, Cottage, etc). Don’t do Japanese decor for example in a Greek Revival…do it in a Mid-Century. Best of Luck doing your own home - I wish you lots of learning and lots of fun!! Enjoy
Great thoughts! I love to do room by room yoo since it's so rewarding. Thanks for sharing and best of luck with your upcoming rooms. Sounds like they'll be lovely 😍
Great video! I jotted down the steps LOL! I’m in a good place with my house, but going thru these steps gave me a fresh way to look at things and see where I can improve. I am also waiting to put down my dream floors. Rugs are my best friends!! Thanks for sharing!
Now, to get my husband on board with decluttering.🤣 I am very low maintenance. I don’t wear much make up and I have very little face accessories. So even my bathroom drawers rarely need decluttering. It is such a freeing lifestyle and my decor reflects that as well. I totally agree about hiding stuff. Everything has a place and it’s so easy to keep clean for sure!!! Thank you for your great ideas. I don’t have the talent you do to repurpose things but my sweet husband does and he watches your channel so I can show him what I want. He’s the talented one. Your ideas are awesome!
That's so great! It sounds like you are well ahead of me in terms of decluttering! I have been reading the book "Minimalista" recently and love it so I am re-inspired to purge more things. That's my plan for tomorrow, and then back to working on next week's video ☺️🤗 Thank you so much for watching!!
@@TashaatHome thank you!! It is easy because we’re empty nesters. With kids we require more for sure. But it’s a good challenge to see what we can do without.😉
Hi there, I just came across your video and I really enjoyed it and appreciate all your advices I love love to decorate my house and buy buy new things every day like you said that’s not good so thank you again ❤
That was so hard for me too! Well not the style, but the colors. Because despite my neutral/earthy toned home I love different colors 😊 But now I save them for my wardrobe 😄

@@TashaatHome thank you so much!! 😭 ♥️ and I’m sorry about your summer!! I hope you’re doing better now and stay that way!!
Brilliant advice which I shall be using in my home! Thankyou for so much motivation
You are so welcome! 🤗
So happy I found your channel….I’m in the process of catching up 💕
Welcome!! 🤗
Great tips! I love your decorating style!❤
Thanks so much! 😊
This was a great video, Tasha! Thanks for your design tips! 😊
Glad it was helpful! 🙂
Great video! I’m looking forward to part 2😊
Thank you! 😃
Thanks for this video. So inspiring to see. I'm already looking forward to part 2!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks :)
Now this is great channel for me. I like that it’s on a “thrift budget” not everyone can always afford the high end buys. I love how your style ideas give direction! And I really love that you include scripture…beautiful.
So glad to have you! Yes lots of thrift going on here haha! Thanks for watching 🤗
This is a great video filled with good information. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful! ☺️
Love all of your advice!!!!!
Such a great informative video. I have been following you since a while. Simply loved how beautifully your home is coming together and looks very hogh end. ❤
Thank you so much! A lot has changed since last year! 😊
That's great! My husband and I like to go to thrift shops and yard sales together also, which is so nice when you and your spouse both enjoy it. ☺️
Very good tips and would love to see more of these
Thank you! 😊 More to come!
This was such a great video! And a good reminder to persevere through deep cleaning and decluttering.
Thank you so much!
Great advice, Tasha. Loved it.
So glad! 😊
Great info and advice. I really enjoyed the content and the delivery.
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much for watching ☺️🤗
Great informative video! My home is French country with a little eclectic thrown into the mix. I’m very intentional with what I bring into my home. I also believe that baskets and spray paint are your best friend when decorating. 😬😊
Such great tips and advice. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Tasha! 😃👋
I just listened to your video and what a blessing it is! Clearly, everyone is feeling the same by my quick scroll through their comments!🥰
I appreciate you sharing your thought process, that I'm actually in the middle of a "purge" process. I've recently been laid off 💔😞 and doing this is truly therapy for my mental state. I've been juggling this along with job hunting, which is VERY stressful all on its own.
Anyways, I wanted to say Thank You!🥰
God bless you, my friend❤
This is truly what I needed. I'm already looking forward to part 2. ❤
So glad to hear it!
Great ideas for those that don't know where to start or simply feel like they can't start due to budget concerns,
Thank you!!
So glad you enjoyed it, and welcome aboard! 🤗 Very glad to have you!
@@TashaatHome ❤️
I actually love that original purple and yellow rug you had but this is coming from somebody who has an eclectic style. Super helpful video.
Haha nice! I only laugh picturing it in my house now but I'm sure it would work for others! Thank you 😊
AGREE: purge, purge, purge first.
LOL
TIP: spend the bulk of your money (and time) on the bones of the house….. flooring, lighting, walls, trim, windows, doors, fixtures and built-in.
Wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching, and dream floors to us both soon perhaps! 😉
Great advice!
Glad it was helpful!

Great video thank you for the truth and great tips
Amazing video, so helpful!! Thank-you
Glad to hear it was helpful! 😊 Thanks for watching!
Love this new style video!! Great content!
Much appreciated! 😊
So helpful! I'm about to remodel on a small scale, but must declutter first.
So glad you found it helpful ☺️
But it’s a good challenge to see what we can do without.😉
Great topic! So helpful. More please!
Your friend Kristine
So glad, thank you!
I look forward to your videos every week! Even though my style is different from yours I love your creativity and your thrift shopping skills.
Yay! Thank you!
I used your method of putting Mod Podge over a glossy photo and it’s fantastic!! So much better for what I needed it for. Thank you!
So glad it worked for you! I do that one all the time 😊🤗
This was excellent. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I love these steps. I took notes 😊 my style is cottage with an English and vintage leaning. But I definitely need to pare down and get bigger rugs 😂
It's wonderful that you know your style! 🔥 Sounds like a beautiful combination 😊

Thank you for these tips.
You are so welcome!
Excellent video ...TY!❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
I can’t seem to hone in on what I want, one day I’m Victorian & one day I’m modern 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ in the mean time all is agreeable grey 😂😂
That was so hard for me too! Well not the style, but the colors. Because despite my neutral/earthy toned home I love different colors 😊 But now I save them for my wardrobe 😄
That's kind of what transitional is. Vintage and modern combined. I bet you can make it look beautiful and cohesive with a little practice.
@@rhiannancaraway thank you, maybe I will delve into the internet on transitional decor and it’s probably what I already have 😂
