Hello, I've got a question. We don't have such phrase in my language and I can't find a strickt rule. What will be correct: There is a chair and a sofa / There are a chair and a sofe. And one more: There is a chair and some tables/ There are a chair and some tables.

Not everyone would agree on this. In your example, I'd say "There is a chair..." because it sounds correct, whereas "There are a chair..." sounds really bad! :)

Hi, Tom. I'm an English teacher in Brazil, and I wanna ask you something very basic, but, as I've never been to the US, I'm confused. I have been telling my students (because that's what I learned) that the correct way to address a teacher is Mr/Mrs/Miss + family name. Also, I use to say that calling me Teacher + 1st name wouldn't be appropriate. But, that's how you introduce yourself. For me it's fine when student don't use Sir/Mr, but I wanna know what you can tell me about. Thanks.
