    That Nelson player also waited until the rapid-firing gunboat *stopped firing* before it resumed firing again, before he decided to change course. He knew that gap in firing from those rapid fire guns meant that the DD had used that time to aim and release torpedoes, so he was completely changing course to avoid them. Smart.

    To be fair to the Mackinson player, the CV may have been focusing him as a priority target because he could find and attack a Battleship easier than a DD or another CC. So I can see it from the Mackinson, on low health, recognizing he might be doomed and trying to take the Caraciolo down with him at least.

    • @indisputablefacts8507
      @indisputablefacts8507 2 роки тому +27

      I definitely support the Mack captain's choices. He's in a battleship, he's the only thing the red CV is going to target. He's *going* to be spotted, he's going to be targeted, and he's *going* to be sunk and there's nothing he can do to change that. Both he and the red BB know this because they've played this game for more than half a minute. There is no backing off in that scenario. Doing as Jingles suggest he should is just adding to the CV's XP total and taking away from his own.

    • @johnnyenglish583
      @johnnyenglish583 2 роки тому +11

      I agree, he actually saved the day. He did lots of damage to the enemy BB and set it on fire. Without it, the Mackensen would have gone down to the enemy CV and they would have lost. The enemy BB had too much health to be sunk by the friendly T6 carrier alone.

    • @Nicholas_Burmeister
      @Nicholas_Burmeister 2 роки тому +6

      Agreed. That's the problem sometimes with Jingles, he misses some stuff like that. The CV would have spotted the Mack without the italian BB's help. Knowing that, what would YOU do with what's basically the last 3 min of the game with a nearby nearly dead BB?

    • @BreadApologist
      @BreadApologist 2 роки тому +2

      @@Nicholas_Burmeister Ya, typically seems that in a situation where you know your gonna get killed, might as well do as much damage to the enemy before you go.
      Im absolutely terrible at wows but if I know im dead either way, might as well go out all guns blazing. Though, just had a match in my Yamato, as im crap at it only did 100k ish dmg n sunk 5 ships, got down to 7k hp no more heals. 2 enemy ships and 1 firendly kurfurst left. I started retreating, but got off one last salvo on the enemy bb for maybe 4k but it helped the kurfurst sink it before it to died. we were then ahead on points and the dying salvo from the last bb hit me. Was down to 107hp chased by a shimakaze. Fortunately I was able to hide behind some islands just long enough to run the clock n win. Was one of my best games to....as normally im 10x worse than that.

    On the subject of submarines - they were never effective against ships actively manuvering during combat. That's what "fleet submarine" concept was supposed to accomplish, and it was a miserble failure whenever anyone tried to build and use one, both in WW1 and WW2.
    In other words - submarines have no place during WoWS match at all, they usually ambushed their quarry in port or while cruising.

      WG are among the greatest disciples of the Sunk Cost Fallacy currently alive in the world. They've put resources into making submarines, so they are not going to remove them from the game, no matter what anyone tells them or what arguments are presented. Personally, I think Submarines can be a fun addition to the game, BUT only in a dedicated game mode (maybe some version of the convoy mode WG has been playing around with), not as part of random or ranked battles.

    to be fair to the Mackensin player, he had already been engaged with the Spaghetti BB while there were multiple ships still fighting & alive & the game was still in doubt. It wasn't until a quick series of kills that he found himself needing to disengage. Also, once a CV decides that a BB is going to die, there's not really a damn thing the BB player can do about it - and the CV would've spotted him no matter what - so firing or not firing made zero difference. But yes, he should've disengaged immediately with the Spaghetti ship when it became obvious it was to time to run, but either way, he was going to die bc the OP cancer CV had decided he was going to.

    To be fair, the RDF works by picking up radio signals (it's in the name). Submarines only transmit above certain depths, so it does actually make sense that a submerged submarine remains undetected by RDF as it would not be transmitting wether it wanted to or not. However, if that is WG'''s reasoning, then the submarines should be deaf and mute to chat, and unable to see ships they can't detect on their own, even on the minimap, as long as theyr are at depths where they can't be detected by RDF.

      Well, the Prince Archbishops of Salzburg might want to have a word. Bavaria only go their dirty mitts on Salzburg during Napoleonic times in 1810, and before that, it was first ruled by a junior line of the Hapsburgs, in the shape of the Archduke of Toskana, from 1803 until 1805, when the Austrians took over, with a short French interim in 1809. So it was actually Austrian before it became Bavarian, and finally became Austrian for good in 1816.
      But yes, Mozart was a German as someone living and dieing in the Holy Roman Empire.

    The RDF skill makes sense though, it's using the enemies radio transmissions to get a bearing. A sub at depth won't be transmitting anything, a) because the water would block it anyway and b) they don't want to be detected by RDF.

    Submarines did have a valid fleet role in WWII. cf:
    U.S.S. Nautilus at Midway. While her torpedoes failed to accomplish anything, she did successfully find the Japanese fleet and attacked Hiryu. With a good torpedo, she could have changed the outcome of the battle - Yorktown would probably have survived. Nautilus was there as part of the fleet deployment ordered by Admiral Nimitz in defense of Midway.
    U.S.S. Darter and Dace as reconnaissance units vs the Northern Force at the Battle of Leyte. After reporting the Japanese fleet position, they went on to torpedo several cruisers including Admiral Ozawa's Flagship.
    U.S.S. Albacore at the Marianas Turkey Shoot. While her one torpedo vs Taiho had results out of all proportion to reasonable expectations because Japanese damage control failed, she did locate the Japanese and she legitimately damaged the carrier.
    The Japanese ordered large submarine screens ahead of the attack on Midway in a reconnaissance role. Apart from U.S decoding Japanese message traffic, this screen would probably have performed as intended and significantly affected the course of the battle.
    Barham, Yorktown, Indianapolis and Shokaku represent submarines on patrol presented with opportunity rather than participating in fleet actions.
    Submarines did NOT have the major-player role in fleet-actions that WG is trying to give them. Enter the business concern. If WG are to justify the effort of developing submarines, they must achieve market penetration. For this reason, they ignore the opportunity to make a realistic vessel that could enjoy a rewarding if minor role in the hands of good players and create the abomination we see today.

    Jingles, the enemy below had something to say about a submarine’s actual chances. “Then why do they hunt them with THREE destroyers at a time?” One dd vs. one sub, if the sub got the chance, might very well be able to put a “fish” into the tin can. Or at least disengage. Particularly before widespread hedgehog usage.

    The main issue I have with subs is that I don't get to play them. Have to do stupid combat missions to get them for just a few days, don't even get to choose which ones or sequence them because playing the first set of subs will complete the missions and force unlock the other 2 sets.
    From what I saw, the HE shells our guy shot at the sub didn't actually hit. The game gave a "Penetration" medal, but that didn't actually happen. Subs take splash damage from HE shells that hit the water near them. Because the Harekaze launches so few shells and the Sub is such a small target (and the harekaze's guns are so small) the splash damage from the shells ends up not being much. He'd have to get an actual direct hit, which did not happen.

  • @7thsealord888

    The reality of naval warfare is that CVs were routinely kept FAR away from any chance of surface battle, and that submarines of that era did maybe 10-15 knots on the surface (a few could approach 20), and less than 5 when submerged. There had been several attempts by various navies to integrate subs with the battleship line, but this had never gone well. Not in WOW.
    Given the appearance of several ships ingame that are very much Cold War rather than World War, I fully expect early-model nuclear subs to make an appearance in WOW soon enough. There already are ships in WOW that actually POSTdate USS Nautilus (commissioned 1954) or the Soviet November class (1959). I daresay that the appearance of these as Premiums would go extremely well for WOW's profit margins - absolutely EVERY single whale out there would want them, at pretty much any price.

    Fantastic commentary as always, though a submarine that got shot through with bullets should be able to sink... although not to resurface. Remember, every ship is submersible...once.
