    I make huichol art here in Mexico and the Campeche wax they’ve been selling in here for the last year has been really bland. I’ve tried many ways to fix it with no success. I was trying to find the recipe of Campeche wax when I found your video. Did you know that you are practically the one person who explains how to makes a wax that can be used in huichol art? I’ll have to try it out! Thank you very much.

      Wow! How interesting! And thanks for that feedback. I’m glad I could help. I’ve been trying to purchase compeche wax for a while but it is hard to come by. If you ever find a quality source, will you let me know?

      @@AncientSouthwest thats the thing, "good quality" isn't really a constant. I'm not sure how Campeche wax is made, like if is naturally made by the bees or if it's a mix someone makes with beeswax, propolleum and resin, but one day you can find a beeswax that works really great, and the next week you'll find a completly different one in the same shop. The one they're selling right now looks ok in color and initial consistency, but once you start working it around in your fingers, it becomes white-ish, bland and kind of dry. I make mostly yarn paintings, so the yarn can sunk into the wax if it's too bland, that's why it just doesn't work for me. I've been trying to fix it by adding more pure wax or paraffin, but it just wont work. If I ever find a good and reliable source, I'll be glad to let you know.

      In fact, I've seen some huichol artisans work with a wax that looks very much alike to the one you made. Maybe they're making someone similar themselvs too.

    Hola! I really enjoyed watching your video. I'm wondering if you have any "how to" info on the muvieri feather healing wand? I have a good idea of to to make one, but more perspective would be welcome. Thank you Douglas

    I tried this and the beeswax and pine sap kept separating when left to cool. Do you know what I am doing wrong?

    • @AncientSouthwest
      @AncientSouthwest  9 місяців тому +1

      I don’t know. That hasn’t happened to me before. Are you sure it was 100% beeswax without any oils or parafin in it? The pine was soft sap, not hard resin, right? Maybe share more details and I can help puzzle it out with you. I’m curious.

    Hi my son and I really want to do these beautiful bead work and I tried to make my own wax after seeing your video but it got super hard . Any idea how can I get it to be softer or I’m using the wrong pine?

    • @AncientSouthwest
      @AncientSouthwest  6 місяців тому

      Hi. I’m glad you are trying it. I’m not sure what kind of pine you were using but it can’t be hard resin. It has to be soft sticky sap. Maybe just play with the ratio a little bit more. heavier on the wax than on the pine. If it got really hard you probably used pine resin instead of pine sap Was the pine you used crunchy when it started or soft and pliable?

    Are you using glass beads to make your huichol art like they do in Mexico. I just bought a jaguar head in Guadalajara and they use glass beads. I would like to know where to get the right supplies to try this myself.

    • @AncientSouthwest
      @AncientSouthwest  5 місяців тому

      Yes. I do use Czech glass beads. Size 11. I recommend purchasing through KarBenKreations on Etsy for starter supplies. Her prices on beads are low and she sells the awl and wax medium as well. You can actually buy a whole starter kit from her if you want to try out a first project with pattern and all. Have fun!

    do you have a place where you get the Mountain lion head forms?

    • @AncientSouthwest
      @AncientSouthwest  Рік тому

      Yes. It changes because sometimes they are and arent available. An artisan in Mexico makes them, but SandiesArtShop is the most recent Etsy shop where I found one.

      …but what do you mean “burn off”. Do you mean evaporate?

    • @allensmall3937
      @allensmall3937 Рік тому +2

      @AncientSouthwest it will evaporate at 70 degrees Celsius, or if leave open, it will evaporate over a few days.
