Charlotte is different. Charlotte has a black mayor, black police chief, black fire chief, black city director, black person over the water in the city, the NBA team has a black owner. Charlotte has black people in positions other cities just don't. If it isn't a black city it is arguable.

Having black people in SOME leadership positions doesn't quite equate to a "black city" b/c most of the leadership positions there are still held by white people. I visited Charlotte twice and although I seen a lot of black people it doesn't feel like a black city like an Atlanta or Memphis. In Atlanta or Memphis, you can more easily feel the black culture and black excellence. And contrary to popular belief, Memphis has always had a strong middle and upper middle class black community ... it's not as strong as Atlanta but still notable.
I’ve lived here for almost 3 years. I’ve never seen so many black successful people. Duke energy is FULL of black professional employees. I love it here

Charlotte is majority Black city, Mecklenburg County, which is the county in which Charlotte is in is majority black that’s why the city counsel & the county council is majority black,
North Carolina is a 25% black state with black Americans controlling 1/3 of all the counties especially in East North Carolina This should not even be a question.
I’m from Charlotte and can definitely say that the tech industry is growing there! I currently reside in Metro Atlanta and in tech so trust me I know.

Not pertaining to Black folks, but I feel like Charlotte needs to build more attractions. The jobs are here and getting better, the housing, retail, and restaurants are coming but the actual fun, go-to places outside of all those things are slow to come. Charlotte is somewhat comparable to Atlanta but still kinda far off in most aspects. But the Black presence of Black people in Charlotte is pretty solid, but I will say that the city is still finding itself amongst all of this growth.
How about instead of babbling about it go build it ! & make it black American own via working with the black city & county council!!
@@javionriley8739 you can’t just point at one person and say “go build it.” Instead of jumping to shout out a response take in that my remarks are about what the city currently has and not me demanding anything to change. More of my take on what I see.

Just left Charlotte a week ago. I have some friend that lives there and the same for Atlanta. In my honest opinion, Atlanta is a Black city but I see that they're (Corporations) trying to Whitewash it by any means. I feel that Charlotte is an excellent city for Black people. It definitely is a gem. They needed to bring the CIAA weekend back though. Charlotte does have some tech, but Atlanta has more. If you have an Accounting / Finance background Charlotte is the place to be. I feel like people in Atlanta are chasing scraps due to the influx. A lot of the jobs in Atlanta don't really pay well even if you have higher education.
There is a cultural difference because of a higher percentage of degreed Charlotte attracts. Atlanta still has a Hollywood appeal. I move there with little talent and make it big.
Charlotte is a white city. Its about 35% black but the black population should grow with the influx of opportunity.
Charlotte and the metro area in general is where Atlanta was in 2006/2007. But banking is stronger in that region so that is a pro! The Microsoft office in Atlantic Yards is a transitional space for the campus which will house 10K+ jobs. Atlanta really changed in 2008 and is in another boom right now. I think the only other city that is comparable or has a slight edge is H-town.
@Space Gray I’d have to disagree. I think they are about 15-20 years behind but thats just my opinion… Every time I go up there it feels like Atlanta around the time of the Olympics or shortly after. Lots of construction changing from rural to suburban. They have a long way to go but I think they are making better strides at mass transit given the population size. Also, driving into the city is so much easier. If you miss an exit you don’t have to leave the city just to turn back around…. Atlanta will always be empire south but Queen City does serve as a 2nd class for the region.
H town has a huge edge compared to both Charlotte and Atlanta. H town is exploding when it comes to growth, jobs, and black owned businesses

2008 was a massive systemic year of change ! Especially with shows like “house wives of Atlanta” debuting!! showing casing the middle/upper black class (which is the majority of metro Atlanta) in metro Atlanta! A long with Obama getting elected! & everything that came afterwards especially with Tyler Perry & other black own film studios creating the black own film industry there etc The image of black American change for the better as we see today
I just got a job offer for a software engineer position with Lowes at new office in Charlotte, as a blk man, I am excited about that, I just want know the dating aspect there but I am excited to move at end of the year.
From what I’ve seen online there are some beautiful women there

Charlotte is still finding itself. While Charlotte has a lot of diversity, it still has aspects that will let you know its still true South. They truly need to work on the entertainment aspect. It’s def not a 7 day a week entertainment city like Atl, Houston, NYC. This is coming from someone who experienced Charlotte from the late 90s to present.
NYC is a 3rd world immigrant hub & has nothing to offer unless you’re a immigrant fleeing from your homeland
I also have a question, do you feel like a student majoring in CS with a certain concentration limits a student? or gives them a better chance to find a job after graduation?
Not really but I'll say try to get an internship as quick as possible when you get into college that's the easiest way to secure a job when you graduate

I been in charlotte and I liked it, I’m thinking about moving there.
I've been here since 2004 and Charlotte definitely has changed alot! I'm about to start my IT degree at CPCC with a concentration in cloud computing and virtualization. I like Charlotte and it is very diverse but what I've seen is an increase in the Indian culture. There are a lot of black people here as well but nothing like Atlanta yet.

I am in the RTP it is now to the point that Charlotte is less expensive than Raleigh. Many are worried since 2 bedroom apartments are now 1900 to 2600 per month and 3300 to rent a townhome.Buying a townhome now 600k.Leaving for affordability and Charlotte for now is better

Atlanta, Greenville, Charlotte and Raleigh is becoming one of America's fastest growing mega regions. Soon they'll have a speed rail coming from Atlanta all the way to Charlotte and then to Raleigh. We're going to be one big family in the future.
Best Black Tech Cities: 1) Atlanta 2) DMV 3) NYC 4) Charlotte 5) Austin. Houston is not really a tech city ... very few tech jobs and start-ups there considering it's size.
Atlanta, no!!! DMV, NYC, Austin, yes! Chicago, Seattle, Raleigh have more tech jobs than Atlanta.

Austin isn't a black city though . Austin population is just about 1 million with only 75,000 black people.
Make sure any city you go to has the upward mobility that you need to reach your potential.
Im hearing about tech jobs but is it competitive with other midsized cities? Charlotte isn’t known for having competitive salaries for STEM workers.
What majority black suburb over 10k residents with a median household income above $85k+. They exist throughout the US. I don't know if they exist in Charlotte.
I don't think I agree with labeling cities Black Mecca anymore. We are very diverse and have different types of careers. We have to choose based on amenities and lifestyle choices.

Atlantas Metro is larger but The city limits is smaller then Charlotte so technically Charlotte is way bigger then Atlanta but you would not know it when you compare the skyline Atlanta feels more like a larger city but Charlotte is getting there but yes Charlotte is way bigger then Atlanta
Metro Atlanta is more than twice the size of Metro Charlotte, but the City of Atlanta is Half the Size of the City of Charlotte. The feel of any city is based on the size of the Metro, so Atlanta is the larger city.

@@TechTualChatter I’m also in tech in clt, majority of my colleagues are black here in the city at a global defense company in IT, there’s definitely a great number of tech talent but for a overall “black” experience I don’t see clt on the same level or even comparing itself to atl or dmv

I been in Charlotte for 10 years now and if anything Charlotte is becoming more white/Hispanic. The high cost of living is pushing blacks out of the Queen City.
