    • @duaneinlow8868
      @duaneinlow8868 22 дні тому

      A difference is that in the USA there were accusations of fraud and government systems were used to publicly demonstrate it was not true. The various USA governments (states published the vote tallies In Venezuela the government has refused to make public the voting tallies that support the governments choice of winner.
      Regarding the Jan 6 2021 event in the USA there would have been little wrong if rioters had not invaded the government building, the Capitol, and threaten the safety of government officials.
      There is a big difference between the democratic system in the USA and Venezuela. But Venezuela can serve as a good lesson and warning against allowing one political party gain complete control of the government as happened with the popular uprising that support Hugo Chavez in 1998 and constitutional changes shortly after aimed at keeping the Chavez party in control in the future.

      NSAM 263 was real, not just a claim in the movie JFK.
      Jack was pulling everyone out of 'nam. Given the date that he signed it, it sounds like the CIA "went rogue" and carried out their plans for Vietnam's resources. That sounds like something that would result in even more people at that infamous alphabet agency getting fired.... Of course, Kennedy could no longer fire anyone just 3 weeks after the Diems were killed. NSAM 273 (signed by LBJ) reversed 263 and eight months later was the Gulf of Tonkin "incident".
      If you're willing (in the early 1980's) to hire and train people from a neighboring country to overthrow a democratically elected government in Central America? Merely to protect the (banana and other) profits of a famous and already incredibly wealthy family? Well then 20.2 million barrels of Oil consumed domestically in the USA every day will surely "motivate" the alphabets. They'll probably get full cooperation from elected branches of government as well. Sure, we produce a lot domestically right now (apparently refinement makes oil travel a bit complex) but that's "right now". Venezuela has the most reserves of any OPEC nation.
      Finally this : In the 1970's and before, just one breadwinner (on average, per family) was driving to work. Now? 2 breadwinners per family. Make wages liveable again and you're potentially saving, not quite 50% on Commuter energy consumption but you're definitely cutting consumption. _Oil company profits as well? Yes. Someone say; "Bingo, that's why"._

    Venezuela is an oil-bearing society that has the potential to be a big rival to American oil companies. The shock to the US system could be very severe if there was a oil rival in Latin America. This is the economic reason the US State Department with iron necessity launches attacks on Venezuela, it is only to slow down Venezuela’s capacity to be a competitor to the US. Should Venezuela seek to develop their oil rich reserves through arrangements with Brazil, India, China or Russia, all hell will break loose in Washington.
    There is an ironic element to US policy in that what they do not want to happen will happen, almost driven to happen, as oil becomes the currency of a nation all currencies want a commodity that will give their respective nations the same or better political and economic advantages. To be king of the hill of the world market today is to own and control two primary commodities very few nations are allowed to get their hands on, i.e., oil and nuclear weapons.
    All this competition driven by the power of commodities over humanity will lead to a third world war because it cannot lead to anything else.

      - The Carter Center - a gold standard of neutral objectivity - has said that the Venezuelan “cannot be considered democratic. … The election took place in an environment of restricted freedoms for political actors, civil society organizations, and the media. Throughout the electoral process, the CNE [the Venezuelan election council] demonstrated a clear bias in favor of the incumbent.”
      - A panel of UN election experts, and the only other group officially invited by the CNE to observe the elections, has reported that the elections lacked “basic transparency and integrity,” criticizing the CNE for announcing Maduro as the winner without showing the tallies, which it said “had no precedent in contemporary democratic elections.”
      - Days before the election, Human Rights Watch said, “Arrests of opposition members, arbitrary disqualifications of opposition candidates, and efforts to further restrict civic space have severely marred the electoral process in Venezuela. The elections are taking place in a context of years of systematic human rights abuses by the government and a severe humanitarian crisis that has forced roughly eight million people to leave the country.”

    I am an anti-imperliast from El Salvador. My partner is Venezuelan born but left before chavez. I hear it all from my partner, who despises maduro and the form of socalism that has developed in venezuela. I also do my own research. I have to say this is the most balanced youtube video I have been able to find. Most mainstream media completely ignores any talk about the impact of sanctions. And downplays the serious corruptuon and violence committed by the opposition over the decades. Folks really need to do their own redearch to get the whole picture. It is not as straightforward as you are being told.
    And also, there is not one singular venezuelan voice. When people tell you to "listen to venezuelans", this also includes those who want U.S. interference out of their country. I have listened to different interviews from all types of venezuelans. I think it is fair to say there is discontent. But to say they ALL want maduro out and ALL want U.S. intervention is naive and selfish.

    It's my second commentary bc I hadn't listened to the end of the talk in the first one and I think what we're watching playing out here is also the unequivocal exposition of both the corrosion of the left, nationally and globally, and the antidemocratic character of the representative bourgeois liberal "democracy".
    First, one guest said that the global left cannot attach the support for Bolivarian revolution to Maduro being in power and there's a lot of problems here, connected to what I said against the representative democracy that only represents the interests of groups whatever they are and not the majority of the people: Venezuela's situation cannot be decided as a global dispute between sides, it's a sovereign country and when its people are hungry it's not "the global left" that feeds them. On the other hand, Leonardo Flores is distorting the situation to oblige all the fruits in the basket to be orange or apple, so if you are against Trump and Bolsonaro you must be against Venezuelan opposition AS IF that means to be pro Maduro no matter the shit he does or says - Leonardo Flores and the horrible "global left" are just repeating the one sided and dictatorial division that run and ruined the very left in the post WWII with the false dilemma that to be against U$A and capitalism you must be pro whatever shit was said and done by the communists in power. Those people learned nothing and that's what has made me start to advocate for global and local participatory democracy bc this cat and mouse game only serves the professional politicians in both sides who are mostly representative of groups and lobbies and not of the citizens.
    One of the major problems that led to the corrosion of the left both locally and globally is its adherence to the rules of the representative democracy which is inherently antipopular and antidemocratic that's why it's now totally taken by fascists around the world.
    And finally, no one fighting in this is fighting for the people of Venezuela but for its own agenda, political and economic power and fossil fuel, the same for the left and the right, be Brazil or U$A or Europe: NO ONE CARES FOR THE INTERESTS AND NEEDS OF THE PEOPLES wherever in the world that's why I say that representative democracy won't never serve the people's interests, it's against its core functioning, so only participatory democracy can save peoples around the world from bad govts of whatever the ideology bc in the end they don't act quite differently in their thirst for power - watch Bolivia that it was the nearest to a socialist govt and now it's a mess with even allegations of auto coup besides the military, totally corroded by the attachment to power and capitalism, while people are in crisis and divided.
    Sorry if I was not precise and clear.

    First, the disagreements in this segment seemed too tepid to be worth calling a “debate”. Mr Velasco, who appeared to me fairly level-headed, did note that Maduro has lost the support of many staunchly Chavista neighborhoods. Mr Flores, on the other hand, seems to be living in a parallel reality. His comparison of Gonzalez and Trump is downright crazy. Also, note that he twice evaded answering why he thought the CNE’s was withholding of the detailed tally sheets. (Where the answer is obvious: the sheets show that Gonzalez won.)
    I applaud Amy for at least mentioning human rights reporting in her introduction, but sadly there was zero attention paid in the interview to eliciting responses to the shooting deaths of a couple dozen people, the arbitrary arrests of around 2,000, the ransacking of the opposition headquarters, the threats to arrest opposition figures, operation Knock-Knock where “enemies of the state” are picked up in the night.
    Essentially, Venezuela is a litmus test for those on the left who are motivated by principle, and those (like Max Blumenthal, Katie Harper, Aaron Mate, Code Pink, the National Lawyer’s Guild, and many more) who are driven by dogma. These are people who are happy to quote Amnesty International, the Carter Center, and the UN when their findings accord with their world view, but who ignore or repudiate these findings when they don’t like what they say.
    Final thought: the left (or portions thereof) and the right share the common fallacy that Venezuela is a referendum on socialism. The referendum here is on human rights and dignity and fairness, on authoritarianism and oppression and corruption. I encourage listeners of Democracy Now not be on the wrong side of history when it comes to Venezuela.

    • @duaneinlow8868
      @duaneinlow8868 25 днів тому +1

      Excellent, especially your final statement. Governments everywhere should take note that over-centralization of government and making political parties more important than what they do for the people of their countries will lead to authoritarianism, hardships for their people and loss of democracy. This is true for socialism, capitalism, any form of social order. Venezuela has experience this during the past ~century both left and right. Not really. Venezuela simply eliminated the middle class and joined them with the poor class of Venezuelans. The rich stayed rich by either leaving Venezuela or joining the power structure of the Maduro regime. They forgot that much of the economic success of the country came from the middle class, people that were educating themselves and making industry work.

    Leonardo Flores is a liar. The Regim in Venezuela is the oppressor not the victim.

      👉Not sure, however, it's most likely , as its clear he favors maduro and celia - in lowercase on purpose. His reference to "Stop The Steal" ensures he is a chavista / madurista 💫

    I am always blown away by all you guys saying the US is somehow to blame for Central America fumbling. I pray that ALL of Latin America can secure their own country so they WILL STAY HOME! Shitting on yer neighbors and sending guys like the ones talking WHILE they are in the US vs home FIGHTING to liberate THEMSELVES... It is silly and pathetic

      Is your complaint similar to that of Maduro complaining that Gonzales didn't show up at the supreme court or face him, man to man?

      Have you paid attention to the plans Machado has proposed for a future Venezuela? Far right politicians are a very rare breed in Latin America. Right and Left are not important anymore. More critical is their support for democracy. Their promise to leave office if they are not successfully helping their country and people.
