I was in a pinch and needed a second bass, so I picked up an Epi Newport bass for $300 open box at MF. Only thing it needed was a minor set up and to re-solder the tone pot. I was very surprised at how good it is, especially for only $300.
Your complaints are music to my ears. I spent about $1500 on an Ibanez BTB805MS and sent it back immediately. 8 high frets, lifting frets, unplayable when setup to factory specifications. The QC vs price issues with a lot of the instruments out there nowadays is unacceptable. Love that the rascal was on here!!! I also have a P5 (not the r) and it's killer!
Got the Sonic in Surf green, Xmas gift to myself and it plays pretty incredible. Great neck but definitely a jazz style. It had a couple minor issues but took care of it and put a brown tortoise pickguard I already had on it...looks goooood! $179 @ MF! Happy New Year Proper
Dude, nice video! This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched and it was both informative and entertaining! You’re pretty funny! Keep’em coming!
So which one of these basses have you had personal experience with and have played for any amount of time to determine the best and worst list of 2023 ?
Paranormal might have a shorter scale neck but it's the same length as a full scale bass when it's in your hands. Not really a fair comparison to the Newport which is an actual short scale bass. In fact, the only things they really have in common is that they both use humbuckers, but the Newport uses 2 different types in the neck and bridge. They're not 1:1 instruments in general so it seems odd to compare them as if they are.
Thank you for calling out companies for selling premium basses with massive control issues. We need to remind these companies their customers deserve better. Also great job informing your audience that you CAN get a good affordable instrument. My favorite thing about the bass community is how welcoming and informative it is. I love your unique style with natural woods. Happy New Year to you and your lovely gf who makes you chicken salad 😆.
There’s so much to choose from these days that won’t hurt your wallet. I don’t hate fender but I can name 20 other basses I’d like to own before I’d consider buying one.

Agree with all. My paranormal rascal is such a cool instrument. Easily the best bass of the year.
Congrats on the acquisition. Hope it treats you well. ✌️

$75...Glarry.....minor set up, flatwounds......I gig with it!! And leave the P & J at home. Not impressed with the Fender brand anymore.

Because I disagree with all your picks I will be reporting you to UA-cam community standards
😂
Sire killing it! I can't wait to see the Music Man-inspired basses get released.
You and me both. If they’re anything like what sire has been doing they’ll totally be on the list at the end of this year. Appreciate your comment ✌️
