I read about this a year ago and got it changed out at a garage. My old PCV valve was covered with gunk. After the new one, my 2013 Sante Fe wasn't burning oil and I was thrilled, seemed like it was fixed. Until about 4 months later, back to burning oil badly again. :( The only thing that seems to slow down the burning a little is when I use Lucas High Mileage Oil Stabilizer. The search continues. Sadly, I have a lot of friends with the same vehicle all with the same exact heavy oil consumption. Great video though. Definitely one of the better ones I've watched.

Stumbled upon this issue when looking up the lubricant for the seat tracks....I can't believe what's going on here. I have a 2017 Santa Fe with the 2.4L engine with over 170K miles...and never had an issue with oil consumption. Of course that doesn't happen with any of my vehicles, as my great grandad told me back in the 80's to run a can of "Berrymans B-12 Chemtool" in every other tank of gas. Pour in the can and then fill with gas....that simple. It prevents carbon from getting behind the piston rings and not allowing the expansion and contraction of the rings needed as the engine heats and cools. Also....you shouldn't be using that ethanol crap in your engine, and only use 100% gasoline....that ethanol has so much particulate matter in it, it will literally wreak havoc throughout your fuel system, engine and exhaust system...don't try to save a few cents at the pump on the ethanol, as you'll pay the price down the road like a lot of you are doing right now paying for extra oil and risking potential engine seizure. Keep a few cans of B12 in your vehicle in the backseat and pour one in every other time you fill up your car and you will never have the oil consumption problem....and...quit using the worthless "ethanol"....always 100% pure gasoline! Always use a good quality synthetic oil as well....traditional oils have so much butyrol peptide waxes that they gum up engines like crazy after just 10-20K miles.

This is not a fix for this particular engine. The Theta engine family has a serious issue with oil consumption. This can be a fix for some cars. I recommend checking it just in case. If you blow in it or suck through it and you can do both successfully. You need a new PCV valve. This valve is designed to be a one-way valve only.

122k miles Santa Fe Sport 2.0 turbo 2017 , theta II engine. Fought with Hyundai for over a year now to change our engine as we saw the problem before 100k . We maintained the car per manual, oil changes, filters and the car is now at 1qt every 300 miles consumption. Tomorrow i am changing the PCV valve. I highly doubt there will be any changes but crossed fingers. We have been 3 times denied the goodwill to change the engine from 3 different service centers. We fought hard but now i am ready to give up and trade it in as Hyundai is and will deny their defective vehicles forever. Do not buy Hyundai if you don’t want to be screwed.

They will not ever repair or recall but they will Replace the engine if it fails from loss of oil. The rings do not seal properly and they know it. The replacement is good for the life of the vehicle regardless of who owns it. Ask your service advisor. Schedule an oil change every so often with a dealer and keep all those invoices. A royal pain but nothing else you can do.

There are two VVT Solenoids... The Intake and the exhaust. Just double checking you mean the Exhaust VVT Solenoid. What do you mean by "and plug" Do you mean the wired plug that is attached to the end of the VVT Solenoid? That Plug goes bad as well?

I have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 model which ran only 123K KM and couple of weeks ago noticed that the oil started burning heavily and took it to hyundai showroom, they informed me that the oil resealing to be done, i got the resealing done through them. Infact post the resealing the engine was shaking a lot and they folks told it could be carburetor issue and replaced all 4 carburetor as well. but just after 500 KM of run the oil again starting burning and it reached the below low level. I am really not sure whether the showroom service center did the check properly before charging me a hefty money. Could you please help me on what other reasons could cause this oil burning.

I think Returning the PVC to the back of the intake valves is a bad idea..
There's no way to keep the intakes clean. As the vapor oily residue hits the back of those coated valves it's no longer hot enough to stick. And it drips off the valves coating the cylinder walls with varnish which bakes onto the cylinder walls which tears up the rings the cylinder walls and the and the Pistons themselves.
We shall see I put a new catch can on my new engine. My engine was dead reliable to 140,000 aside from the fact that it started using oil at about 100,000 MI.

absolutely not the reason why Hyundai and Kia cars with little mileage and no other issues are burning oil

    😂🤣😂🤣 it’s not a pcv issue in a Hyundai, it’s a worn engine issues 🤣🤣

If the engine starts using oil it might be cheaper just to rebuild it rather than having to spend $5,000+about as much for labor for a new engine. Id think a good engine shop would be able to rebuild it for less than $5,000 especially if it's not too far gone.

My 3.8 has close to 200k miles. I figured the rings are weak and oil is burned at High rpm

lol it’s not a PCV issue. It’s the shitty rings and loose fitted pistons.
