    Comparing rainbow yarn? Yes! I had the same issue with the big twist living. I think the red heart looks best as the squid. This is why it is so important to do mock ups!

    What I have found from simply soft yarn is that the first doll I made was a gift to the granddaughter. She loved the doll and after a few weeks/ months it looked like it was very old and haggard! I immediately decided to use a different yarn for those tight stitches. The ones that don’t split and keep a shine look much better longer in my opinion

    The Big Twist Value "Rainbow Bright" is DEFINITELY an 80's TV throwback to the show Rainbow Brite, which is why it is more neon and has that black in it... Nostalgia aside, I would still vote that one as my favorite (the Caron Simply Soft is my second!). I think the black adds a nice contrasting pop and the chaotic colors/color pooling feel more childlike and fun. This is the first video I've seen from your channel, but thrilled to explore more!

    • @Tfwcrochet
      @Tfwcrochet  7 місяців тому +1

      Oh I can totally see that! I like the idea of the black being a nice contrast too. I just think maybe a squid wasn’t the right pattern? But maybe I’m wrong. So glad you’re here! 💜

    I really liked the Caron Simply Soft, but the Super Saver Stripes one was my favorite, really cool gradient. My favorite striping yarn that I use is Red Heart Unforgettable in Candied and Parrot. Super cute Squids by the way!😊

      Thank you so much! I will have to look up that yarn. Is it softer than the super saver?

    • @sheepwillowgifts9650
      @sheepwillowgifts9650 7 місяців тому +1

      @@Tfwcrochet Yes, it is a variegated roving yarn, but it frogs surprisingly well, and doesn’t have a halo, works really well for Amigurumi, Hobby Lobby I love this yarn prints is variegated and by far the softest and most fun to crochet up and do Amigurumi with, and it has a surprising thickness and squish to it that’s nice too. Lion Brand Mandala Sparkle is really pretty, but the stripes would take toolong to change for Amigurumi and it’s a little thin

    I use the Bright Stripe a lot. I've not tried the Favorite Stripe yet. But that yarn works amazingly well for larger amigurumi where you can see the full range of color.
    The favorite stripe one is definitely the cutest even if you can't see the full range. I mean, if you make more than one squid then you'd have it start at different points, it would be neat :) I made a series of zombie cats in the Bright Stripe that all start at different points and it was interesting to see.

      @Tfwcrochet I think so! It's a traditional rainbow colors 🌈 and the striping isn't too long or short like the Caron one in your video! I think they sell it at Walmart now.

    I just used red heart super saver Bright stripe for a Hubble the Squid and it worked great. I did cut the yarn some. I did the 8 legs in colors and the the two tentacles in black. Body worked up with no black which was great so those two tentacles the only thing in black just look amazing. Yeah texture isn't great. I use two yarns, red heart and then Just Chenille from Dollar Tree so two very different textures but that's what my bank account can afford and I just don't focus on the texture of red heart. It is what it is lol

    Hi, I’m pretty new to your channel but enjoying your videos.💜
    I have a couple question?
    I can’t find safety eyes where I live in Canada, where could I find them online for not a really expensive cost per pair? I am looking for 2mm, 6mm and 10 mm. Also I’ve been crocheting for decades(ahem, age smage 🙄) since I was 8, but the one thing I’ve never made is amagurumi and it terrifies me!! I am a little challenged since my stroke as far as having to read and see a tutorial and such usually 10-12 times and do it simultaneously to get things right and ugh I just did a granny square new to me snd had to frog 9 times!😤🥺 before I figured out what I was doing wrong. That was a bad one. Worth keeping on going as it’s the basis for my lil nephew born a few days ago at 33 weeks it’s a blanket for him.💚 I’m always glad I preserve.
    But I just cannot wrap my head around how to make the shapes of animal parts and sewing together etc. if I can figure out how to go on Etsy to purchase your squid pattern, I’d be
    thrilled! Do you have any advice for a very desperate auntie?! I want to make him a lovey but still don’t know what I’m even capable of. I have a few weeks before he will be out of NICU but they also are 6 hrs away so it has to go in the mail and because he’s so early I’m only 80% done his blanket and haven’t begun his beanie yet either as I know he will grow a lot and anyhow enough bragging lol. Desperate for safety eye supplier, and easy but lovely good patterns/tutorials for some sort of lovey animal. Baby girl on the way in 1-2 week as well so I’m verrrry busy trying to speed this show up! His name is Bo if you pray at all 🩷 thanks in advance! (Anyone else ifs welcome to answer too if you see this which I hope somebody does!) 💜

      Hi! Thank you so much for your comment. All the love and good vibes for your early nephew. We had a family member have their baby that early and he is thriving now.
      I don’t have any advice for learning amigurumi from scratch. I learned from a library book over a decade ago lol. But I know there are lots of good UA-cam tutorials out there.
      I have been thinking of making a lovey pattern soon. I love making lovies for my neices and nephews.
      As far as safety eyes go I like the brand I used in this video. I have only used the glitter ones from this brand but I just ordered some plain black as well: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0BBRJDQLZ?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image
      I don’t know if I answered all your questions but I hope this was helpful!

    Big Twist Living Squid is my favourite. I don't use rainbow yarn (I've been too intimidated), so I have no favourite. I'm thinking that the rest of the yarn could be fish...the scales could be very colourful.

    What do you mean by yarn splitting? Breaking or opening up the long way?

    • @Tfwcrochet
      @Tfwcrochet  6 місяців тому

      Not breaking exactly just that the yarn starts to come apart into the separate strands. Does that make sense?

    • @AuntBecky1
      @AuntBecky1 6 місяців тому

      It does make sense. Thank you. I am a new crocheter and just learned in February from videos. So far I’ve made a Lapghan from 90 three rounds granny squares, a 30” x 25” baby blanket with the shell pattern and 11 washcloths in single, double, half double and a kind of a four loop double that is my favorite. I still have three skeins of cotton yarn that I will make nine more washcloths with. After that I will be deep diving into amigurumi animals. I need to buy eyes yet. I struggled a lot with tension until I got one of those rings. It really helps. When I first started I spent two hours just trying to get a row of chain stitches correct. I keep reminding myself that practice is the key and it’s ok to undo stitches even if its far away from where you are. It’s much better than having a mistake in your work. One thing I do that none of my family does is wind my skein into a ball. I forget about pulling out more yarn from the skein while I am working and it messes up the tension. Working from a ball is so much easier for me.

    • @Tfwcrochet
      @Tfwcrochet  6 місяців тому

      @@AuntBecky1 wow! You have made a lot so far! I hope you find making amigurumi fun. Yes learning how to manage your tension is a huge part of it. Everyone has to find what works for them in the crochet world!
