  • Hey friends 😃 It's been a while - this is a somewhat rambley video where I update you about what's going on in my life, the business and this UA-cam channel. I talk through a bunch of challenges that this new move and direction is bringing, and use the camera to think out loud about various issues.
This video isn't a directly useful one, so if you've got something better to do with your time, please don't feel bad about doing just that.

I have always found your videos where you talk about the personal and professional challenges you are facing at the moment the most insightful. There is a lot of clarity in how you explain how you think through life decisions and it's admirable. I am very happy to see you achieve big things and go after opportunities that you wanted. Good luck! ❤️

🍀 this is honestly one of the most entertaining videos I have watched lately. It’s curious that you believe it doesn’t bring any clear value.
I can watch “top 10 productivity hacks” anywhere, however having a view into the struggles you have when building a business and how you are dealing with them is not something that can be easily found anywhere else.
Getting to see which books you are reading to tackle those issues is also a great insight!

I just published my 130th consecutive podcast this week while keeping up with my UA-cam channel and writing a book and I can say from experience that it’s *a lot* of work. Batching and delegating podcast tasks is *key* (especially when it comes to interviews). I can send you by guest booking workflow if that helps, Ali.
Fortunately, UA-cam Creator Academy says that there’s no statistical impact from UA-camrs taking a few weeks off here and there. No long-term impact on views. So that’s promising!

hi Ali, I stopped watching your YT videos couple of weeks ago because I felt like they became too clickbait, let's make algorithms happy style. And then I watched this one. I can imagine how hard it is to balance it all out and I really admire that you just shared your thoughts and concerns with us. I think you already know and feel inside what's right and what you want to do. Maybe consider B2B in terms of "who pays the bills" as you mentioned that you don't it that normal ppl have to pay for your courses? Just quick thoughts.

Re: 18:49 How to figure out what to do with your life, one exercise I love and use frequently is the 7 Layers Deep “Why” Exercise. I’m not sure who originally invented it but there are a few variations of it on the web. You can use it to figure out your “end game” motivation behind anything from your career to hobbies. That can also help you figure out what to teach.
Regarding passion, I would also recommend to refresh a bit some of Cal Newport’s stuff on passion v profession in So Good They Can’t Ignore You. Good stuff. I’ve read that book 3x so far.

I also appreciated your Pakistani heritage again a superficial judgment (but we like being able to relate to someone cos of a shared background) and the rest was history, so doctor or not keep doing you, the value you’ve added to our lives is immeasurable, wishing for your success… May the Lord grant us guidance and the happiness we seek 🙏

🍀 One anecdote on why living your best life TODAY is important- My grandma's only dream in life was to visit the Taj Mahal (She lived in Delhi i.e. 3 hours drive from the place). She never went because earlier there were kids to bring up, money to save, marriages to arrange, then grandkids came along and life stayed busy. When she finally had the time and money, she no longer had the health. She passed away last year never having seen the Taj. So I'll just say- Go see your Taj (whatever that is for you). Don't wait for the right time, enough money etc etc. 😊🍀

I'm one of your recent followers. I appreciate your "ramblings" because as you said in one of your other videos it's interesting to see the process and 'behind the scenes'. Even though the questions/struggles you have are different from mine, I can still relate to you on a broader scale - the quest to find the balance of work and life, etc, and your thought process help me to review my process for my questions, or give me an entirely different way of thinking about either the question / the process of finding the answers. And for someone like me who lives by herself, there's time and need for videos like this where it's not cognitively heavy that it needs my full attention but I can half watch it while cleaning or doing dishes and focus for a bit when you mention something particularly resonating / interesting. I'll be interested to see your answer through the developments w ur business.

This was one of my favourite videos from you personally, I love these kind of chit chat videos about what's going on in someone's career life and hearing their thoughts about trying to figure life out- it's so interesting to me as it helps me think about my own life while taking in different perspectives from other people's lives. Hope all the best for your business Ali!

I have always watched your video Ali, but lately I have been on a binge. I am late to watching this one, but I watched the entire thing, and I must say it was one of my favorites. There is something so relatable or nice about hearing you speak your thoughts. Kinda funny to see that no matter how big the business, or UA-cam channel gets that we all still kinda struggle with the same things in life. I love that you made this video to kinda work through the things you are facing. I feel like it was kinda therapy for the both of us. Keep going Ali!

🍀Great video, thanks for the update, Ali. It's interesting and comforting to hear you think out loud and share your thoughts, plans, challenges, and fears. I can relate to a lot of what you shared. And yes, having too many options is definitely a good problem to have, but it's still a challenge :) What you shared about business also makes me think of the Mexican Fisherman story that Tim mentions in The 4 Hour Workweek. How much is enough when it comes to money and what are you really wanting to create or achieve in life? Interesting and challenging questions that we all may or may not answer in our lives. Wishing you all the best and congrats on the very smart studio space. Greetings from Cape Town 🇿🇦

Hearing you talk about your struggles feels really relatable and comforting, in a weird way. As someone who struggles a lot with self awareness (sometimes wayyy too much) and over-pressuring myself to have everything in my life together and tick all my goals and "should-do's", not "want-to's", this is really enlightening. I think a lot of us struggle to find direction sometimes because we're trying to fit this certain pattern of a "perfect person", so much that we stop ourselves from being it by trying to have it all figured out. We're human and being flawed, taking time, not being sure of what to do are normal things, but sometimes when you're so deep into self reflection and self improvement you stop yourself from finding the answers to what really matters - still working on that one. Great video as always, Ali!

I absolutely love this behind the scenes look into the business. As someone who wants to create content on a regular basis whilst having a full-time job, it was really interesting to see what life is like once you push that barrier and achieve independence from the traditional 9-5 (or more!). Even though the desire for most is to leave the traditional 9-5, it shouldn't really be the end goal because what's next after that? what's the infinite game?

I've been watching your videos now for about a year. Every video I watched has had some benefit to my life be it through learning new tricks and hacks or learning about something or someone you mention, who further aids my growth. I just want to say that I completely get what you mean when you say you're not sure you want to continue medicine because it is a huge part of you and you have invested so much money and effort into your education (I'm a nurse and feel EXACTLY THE SAME). However...at the end of the day people can tell if you are or are not passionate about something. If your heart is not in it, which I don't think it is...choose what ignites your spark. I think that is the main reason why your channel does so well and so many people relate. It really shows that you have a beautiful and genuine heart and teaching is DEFINETLY your calling! Becoming a Doctor was just your foundation, but teaching is your true calling! You have a nack for explaining complicated things in such a simple way, you are BRUTALLY honest and transparent about your life, business and work, people love that! It can be excruciating to leave behind the person who you think you SHOULD be...but watching from the sidelines I can tell you, you are made to teach and inspire people. Wishing you all the very best! I will be watching your channel as long as you post content 😊....biggest congratulations on the expansion of your business, you have truely earned it. Sending lots of good vibes from Australia 🐨🌴🌊

    Recently started watching your channel.
In the midst of working in this pandemic I am finding that more people are depending on others to make their day. Friends, family, coworkers, and customers are running at an all time low. We have been deprived attention, communication, and much more that our pre-pandemic lives provided to us.
Mental health is everything and I think you are carrying the stress of other's in your lap, especially with your team expanding.
It is natural to feel empathetic in these situations, but it is best if you learn to control those empathetic thoughts and know when to shut down for your own sanity.
I've watched a lot of videos of yours over the course of two-days. The happiness that alludes off of you is infectious most when you are creating content on educational topics, you can tell you are coming from a genuine place.
As far as career changes.. I personally left my mechanical engineering degree to pursue a greater fulfillment. I think that new doors open and sometimes old identities become fun facts to new friends and great bragging rights for old friends. Do not fear your future. There will always be content to teach. You are an adaptable person!
*Clover emoji*? I couldnt sleep and wanted to watch this video to see into your perspective more.

🍀I truly enjoyed this. As a business owner myself, I struggle with some of the same issues. Do I get bigger just because I can? When is enough enough? What parts of it do I love? As the business gets bigger, more and more tasks take me away from my core expertise (the care and feeding of gifted children) and more and more to the business side of things (meetings with accountants, etc.). I loved hearing another person voice some of my same struggles. And I know your niche: It's the "how to be a better human" niche.

This video is full of value and insight for those of us trying to grow. It’s a direct reality check for our dreams before we get there. I feel that perhaps as you’ve grown you’ve become less relatable to your audience (which is inevitable) so if you did more videos like this now and again, where we see your vulnerability that may restore the connection, as long as it comes from an authentic place. 🍀

Thank you for sharing this! I've found myself in a very similar headspace recently. I was, like you, doing a bunch of different projects - podcasts, yt, selling jewelry on Etsy, etc etc - and I spent some time thinking about why i got involved with each one, and how much I actually enjoy it. I came to realize (among other things) that:
    1. Just because I have an idea, doesn't mean I have to act on it: I found that I was in this kind of hamster wheel, where as soon as I had an idea I'd launch into it starting it. I found myself with all these projects and then I'd work myself into a state of stress thinking about how I'm going to find time for them, while balancing all other aspects of my life. I never considered the idea of "just because I can, doesn't mean I should."
From there I took time to assess what things I really enjoyed, and started to cut away the stuff I don't love anymore. When I get new ideas I consider how it will feed my soul, and how well it'll tie into other stuff I'm working on.
    2. Side hustles aren't necessarily self care: Somewhere along way on my self care journey, I realized I need to have something I'm working on for me, because I'm not satisfied just having a day job. Fast forward a year or so and I was juggling 5 different projects plus a day job. After cutting a few of them off to better focus on the ones I enjoy, I've found a better balance. Still working on it, but I'm happier now not having to keep track of things and feeling like I always have 100 different jobs to do.
Lastly, beautiful space! Congrats! Enjoy it and remember that nothing except death is truly permanent. If it doesn't work then ditch it after the year is up for something else. At least you gave it a shot. We only learn through failure so don't be afraid to try stuff to see what really works. We have no control over the past, future, or anyone else. Just ourselves, and only in the moment we're presently in. Let your Pilot decide whats next and then enjoy the view while your in Plane mode! 😃

Hey Ali! I don't usually comment on videos or watch 40 minute long videos, but your thoughts are pretty relatable. I think while there are pros and cons to doing all or focusing on a niche, ultimately what matters most is that you enjoy the journey. I understand now that it is harder to do since it's become a business and bigger than just you making videos, but I've generally just enjoyed hearing your thoughts on things and life in general🍀 You're transparent and I appreciate that in all your videos.

Love it!!! Defiantly gave me a lot to thing about. I also feel guilty when I take time off work. I have fear that the money and work won't be there anymore. I constantly have to talk my way back to reality and go through the worse case scenario "If I don't get anymore work and my business fails what will I do" at the end of the day if I lose everything I know I have the skills and ability to start from zero. I'm on the fence about making content. I hate being on camera, but at the same time I know that I would value someone like me documenting the journey that I'm currently on. I keep watching all these videos and the information is great but representation matters. I really appreciate all you do. Hearing you go through all these thoughts really does help. 🍀

The one area you need to think about is how to expand to additional on screen talent. Your entire business appears to depend on you being on screen - I know you enjoy it, but producing content with only you limits long term growth. Look at channels like Linus Tech Tips where they have 5 or 6 additional on-screen personalities that have their specialties and fans.

Hi Ali! Really enjoyed this video! 🍀 It was great to hear all your thoughts about what’s going on in your life. Rambling videos are fun and what really struck a chord was what you said about creating videos that are useful or helpful to people in some way.
I think even if it only helps one person, it is still valuable because you never know how what doesn’t always seem the most relevant to you may become relevant to someone else. Sometimes you think people will already know the things so you don’t bother explaining but that’s not the case and content can be extremely helpful even when you think it has no impact.
Also what you said about the niche market is true because you don’t want to be boxed into one specific thing if you’re interested in multiple topics. If you’re focused within one topic, that can make it easier to lose interest because you feel stuck rather than taking the time to branch out and show multiple interests.
    Thank you for sharing! ☺️
