3:57 that has got to be one of the best transitions of the three in this remake, especially considering that Takunuva was once an Av Matoran hidden away to escape the Makuta. So seeing this transition of Tanma raising his sword to strike Chirox/Kirop and then seeing Takunuva beat up Icarax was phenomenal!
those extra narration lines in the end... I never heard it before, but hearing something new that just feels old gave me the nostalgia that I just needed. Thank you for making a video that brought back the feels I've never had since G1 got cancelled!
As Marzelo Peras said, the latter portion of this video is from "The Rising" story serial; first of a two-part narration followed by "The Truth" detailing the awakening of Mata Nui and subsequent takeover by Makuta. Unfortunately, they received no official video to go alongside them, so I thought it would be a nice way to wrap up the retrospective with the rise of Mata Nui and give it a set of visuals.
Thank you! I thought the original video was lacking a bit in that it only showed a few commercial animations, so I wanted to make sure I included footage from as many forms of media as possible!
This made me cry it was so good. As a child my world was bionicle. From collecting 100s, to taking the pictures in the back of the instructions and covering my wall. Bionicle will always be close to my heart. For the characters taught me so much. Thank you for this beautiful video. Unity Duty Destiny #BionicleForever
It's a shame that the theme isn't appreciated by Lego and the current market (if the performance of G2 is anything to go by, though poor marketing was certainly a factor). I think it's time the brand moved on from being held in limbo by Lego and was allowed to be adapted into other mediums without the shackles of being primarily a line of toys. There's more than enough lore and depth to the characters for it to be adapted into movie a franchise or Netflix / Amazon series.
The goosebumps man! I genuinely forget quite how seminal a moment the awakening of Mata Uni was, but this took me back to my first reaction of excitement and anticipation when I was 8 years old. It was one of genuinely the most mind blowing and awe inspiring moments of any story I have ever been exposed to. Thank you for recapturing that magic, and also recapturing the tragic whiplash at the very end eluding to the fate we all know too well at that point in the story
Thankyou! I'm glad I was able to recapture that. It's not often something that monumental happens in media, but I guess 8 years of build-up and hints certainly helps!
this gave me the goosebumps....... but then again wen i first saw the original that gave me the goosebumps as we knew the ending was nearing...... that part was sick at 2:15 its like makuta infected vakama before he was imprisoned and in a way he kinda did
Favorite bits of this video: -Seeing the footage from the Mask of Light movie(massive nostalgia bomb) -Matoro holding the Mask of Life. accompanied by the line "the courage and daring of true heroes". His sacrifice still gets me in the feels. -The original "final" lines spoken over the Toa Nuva flying in the sky. It really brings back that epic, climactic feeling the original retrospective had when it first come out. -"Mata Nui has risen", that lines gives me chills. -Makuta's lines at the end put a giant smile om my face with how unexpected they were. Incredible work everyone involved. Idk why I hadn't subscribe before, but you got my subscription now.
Great video! It’s sad that Bionicle doesn’t get the recognition it deserves for its great story and deep lore simply because it’s a toy theme. LEGO doesn’t even seem to give Bionicle the recognition it deserves, which is very weird considering the company would have died without it. I love how you used a bunch of the official clips combined with fan made ones. I wish that they would have made more Bionicle movies and that it would have continued long enough for them to explore the different worlds and fulfill plot points. The only two criticisms I have for your video is that the music is a bit louder than the narration and that when Mata Nui rises it felt kind of rushed, other videos will have a little bit of build up to that point. Other than that excellent video and I hope more people see it.
Thankyou! It's a real shame that Bionicle doesn't get more recognition from Lego beyond little references in sets, but I guess it doesn't really represent where Lego is now in terms of their product range. I imagine that if it was a system theme it would be getting a lot more recognition. Balancing audio and music is always a tricky one - the visuals were edited to the music so I wanted that to be audible, but I didn't want it to take priority over the narration too much. Definitely some room for improvement there, cheers for the feedback :)
It would have been cool if you had shown "The Truth" part as well using the comics and legend reborn, although it probably would've been too somber of a note to end on. In any case, this is still amazing! Including the fan animations was an amazing touch!
I thought about it, but I felt the footage and shots required would slow the pace way down and end up dragging a little, but I did throw a little nod to it right at the end!
THIS IS SO GOOD ! Great job here, give so much memories. And nice to have included fanworks too, and "The rising" narration and clip, they fit so well !! 💜

if only lego saw its potentail, gave it time and trust; funded its legacy, it could be their greatest legacy again. A legacy that saved them from bankrupcy and the same legacy they nearly lost everything from their lack of heart. Maybe one day, it will truly return again.
It's from a short podcast named The Rising, kind of a companion piece to The Truth, both of which documented the end of the 2008 storyline. biosector01.com/wiki/The_Rising
They migrated to Metru Nui which is inside the GSR and acts as the brain, Mata Nui was outside the GSR above his face and acts as the mask. The GSR has a universe (world) of it's own, inside it has skies, oceans and all while outside there's an aquatic world full of artificial islands that were made by the dormant robot's camouflage system
The inhabitants went back to their homeland, metru nui, within the "great spirit robot". The rahis that were left were killed by the bohrok swarm during the cleaning.
Criticism noted! You're not the only one to mention this, and in retrospect, I'm fairly certain it's because the music (which the cuts are timed to) isn't the dominant form of audio in the video - This understandably would make the faster edits more overwhelming than usual.
The Toa half of the six survived the reactivation of the Great Spirit's Core by way of a vault called the Codrex. The Makuta half died, either in the explosion or at each other's hands.
Fantastic work! Definitely adding this to our recommended fan content playlist. :)
Me too.
That cut from Makuta to Vakama's eye...AAAAA BEAUTIFUL
