What makes this game so great is I only have memories of playing it somewhere, arcade, beach pizza shop. You were always out doing something fun when you played it.
Why this never get a sequel amazes me, it was one of the best arcades of my childhood. It played and looked so good for the time, even better than the Ninja turtles arcade. I think my favorite was the X-Men arcade because you could have eight people play together, so all my friends would play the same game, but the Simpsons one was really fantastic. Thank you for recapturing it.
There probably wasn't a sequel because Lisa hit him and homer punched him out at the end, likely killing Mr. Burns. Mr Burns is physically very weak and probably couldn't take any big blows like he got at the end of the game. They probably weren't sure who to have as a final boss for a sequel.

@@Tubewings Didn't the blue shirt originate from the original shorts, where the colouring was pretty inconsistent (I think he even had a green one sometimes).
@@ToonReel001 DVD commentary for some of the early seasons talks about the blue shirt stuff occasionally. My mom liked taking us to the skating rink every so often when I was a kid and I remember to the side of the rink there was a little snack bar and arcade. Every single time me and my brother would go straight over to that little arcade in the corner, buy an Icee, play Simpsons arcade and listen to 80's-90's pop/rock music playing over the speakers for the skaters in the background. So nostalgic. Being in that dimly lit arcade with almost no people around, just me my Icee and the Simpsons. I could stay there all day long if I was able to.

i live across the river from laughlin nevada and spent a good chunk of my childhood in the 90s inside the casino arcades and this was a staple... one of my favorite games ever
Despite the fact the game copy here has them using a life amount beyond a single digit, it's important to remember to be cautious when attacking so the enemies don't drain your health so fast if you play this on the real cabinet with only 4 lives
Memories playing this game with my older brother arcade games spending our money trying to save Maggie really bring me back just seeing the characters in action.
And if you look closely: sometimes her hair snags... revealing two Binky-like ears underneath! The original 1st season ending, before Matt realized "Ok, that's _too_ weird, even for (early seasons) us", was that Marge was going to be revealed to be a _Life In Hell_ rabbit, like Binky.
Smithers running off with Maggie instead of simply taking the diamond out of her mouth 😂 He really sent Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa on a crazy adventure fighting off paid goons. Classic beat em up that never gets old for me.
I remember how popular this game was when it came out. It was addictive. I wasn't even 10 back then so I wasn't a good player but I enjoyed watching the older boys play because I got to see the game till the end. This and the TMNT game were money eaters.
When I was a kid, I went to Las Vegas with my family. Since there is not much for kids to do in Vegas, we went to the arcade in the hotel we were staying at. They had the Simpsons arcade machine there. I played and beat it with my brother and mom. Good memories.
To quote James Rolfe: "Even on the 16-Bit consoles, we never got a port of the Simpsons arcade game. And for what reason? They put it on DOS and Commodore 64! I never quite understood the legal aspect of this situation. Acclaim Entertainment somehow got the rights to publish any Simpsons based games not too long after this arcade game came to market. My best understanding is that the rights are specifically only for the console based games. How 20th Century Fox let Acclaim do this after Konami made their arcade game (I would imagine Acclaim paid a lot of money for it)? I have no idea.
@@dezwashere8706 Not exactly. I know this might sound a bit odd, but to be more precise, Acclaim Entertainment owned exclusive rights to all Simpsons related games on all consoles (but that didnt include computer systems or arcade machines, hence how Konami was able to develop this game without getting sued by Acclaim). Part of the reason why Imagineering Inc. developed the The Simpsons games for the consoles and had Acclaim publish the games was because of this. Imagineering was the in-house development company for Absolute Entertainment, who already was a video game publishing company. Why Imagineering/Absolute did this for Acclaim? I dont know. I know both companies were both founded by ex-Activision employees, but other than that I dont know. As for the hardware, that shouldnt be a problem. The arcade hardware specifications for this game are similar to a Sharp X68000 computer. Converting to a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive or even the SNES shouldnt have been a problem for Konami (if it werent for Acclaim).
I miss always playing this at the skate arena in the late 90s when my school did roller skating parties 😅 And hearing Backstreet Boys and Destiny's Child blaring in the background. I want to go back
Omg hearing the "putting in a one pound coin" sound gives me absolute shivers! Spent every Sunday playing this game in an arcade with 3 friends when I was like 12 : )
Fun fact: it was originally planned for marge to hide bunny ears under her hair in reference to "life in hell", matt groening's first succesful publication, and was going to be revealed at season's 1 finale. Sadly, the idea was scrapped.
When I was small, I used to play this at the local Godfathers pizza, couldnt go pass the krustyland stage. It took me 10 years until I found this gem again Between me and my brother, it cost $15 of quarters to play from start to finish. Happy to finish this game
5:34 As soon as the "Pogo the Rabbit" NPCs appear, this really proves this wasn't just made by Simpsons fans, but by people with a deep understanding of Matt Groening and his body of work. Because how many people woule actually be familiar with "Life is Hell"? What a total love letter!
I played this a few hours ago at a pizza place because it was my birthday party and i did the whole game as bart in single player. (fyi the reason i didnt play the game with anyone else was because we got to the pizza place like an hour and a half earlier so we could set up everything so nobody was there yet) Edit in 2023: forgot I commented this I think this was after my 9th or 10th birthday since I’m 16 now and I’ve been really wanting to replay this game for a while but unfortunately the pizza place got rid of the cabinet and I don’t have any good ways of emulating the game rn so sucks for me I guess
Check the 26:05 mark. Y'all notice Marge has rabbit ears under her wig when she gets shocked? Matt Groening changed her character design and got rid of them later.
I never really watched the simpsons, but I have a huge nostalgic soft spot for this game. Me and my brother would play through it on a weekly basis at the bowling alley with our dad. He would give us a big handful of quarters and give us free reign of the arcade while he bowled. So the smell of cigarette smoke in a bowling alley, the sound of pins being knocked over, and this game all combine for some of my earliest childhood memories.
I loved playing this in the arcade! The following are observations I've made from playing thru the DREAMLAND level: 1. It is unnecessary to destroy the Marge heads/clouds in order to proceed. 2. The musical notes from the saxophones can't hit players who are in the air. 3. The "SANTA FE" sign and guy who float by (just after the saxophones) are from the Season 1 episode, "Bart the Genius". 4. The bowling ball, in its first form rolling on the ground, can't hit players who are in the air. 5. In its second form, with arms and bouncing around, the bowling ball can't hit players who are in the air.
Ah, I remember playing this game a couple years ago. The machine was a bit Battered, with only Homer, Bart and maybe Marge playable. With the help of 2 of my friends, both of which only helped at one point, and I managed to get through the entire game. Heck, I even got the #1 Score on the machine!
Did I see a combo attack @ 2:03? Are there any beat em' up games that allow players to do joint attacks against an enemy? If that was a joint attack of Bart & Lisa, I feel like more beat em' up games should have joint attacks that do more dmg. I know you can do couch co-op with beat em' up games but are there any co-op beat em' up games that allow you to play online with friends?
7:21 lmao when my cousin and me played this game at the ranch and other kids scream so badly cause we were scared because of the cutscene, man nostalgia is powerful..

As for the hardware, that shouldnt be a problem. The arcade hardware specifications for this game are similar to a Sharp X68000 computer. Converting to a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive or even the SNES shouldnt have been a problem for Konami (if it werent for Acclaim).
This looks so nice on 60fps. My God it's beautiful and smooth.
Truly an S-tier arcade game. If I saw this in an establishment when I was younger I’d go running to my dad begging for cash.
I love this game! I once beat this whole game by myself, with Homer Simpson, when I was 15! Great playthrough!
Just did that but with bart!
@@niko-dg8cg Aww, that's cool!✌🏾😁
I miss always playing this at the skate arena in the late 90s when my school did roller skating parties 😅
And hearing Backstreet Boys and Destiny's Child blaring in the background.
I want to go back
My cousin and I would walk to Subway and play this game for HOURS. I haven't seen this since the 90's 😍
Omg hearing the "putting in a one pound coin" sound gives me absolute shivers! Spent every Sunday playing this game in an arcade with 3 friends when I was like 12 : )
Best arcade game EVER
Agreed!
why are you commenting on comments on my profile grave that's happened years ago!?
YEAH
And it’s still the best Disney game ever, bar none!
Teenage mutant ninja turtles is the best then the Simpsons would be a close second.
This game brings back memories of my childhood.
26:07 marge rabbit
And It's A Rabbit In Disguise.
Fun fact: it was originally planned for marge to hide bunny ears under her hair in reference to "life in hell", matt groening's first succesful publication, and was going to be revealed at season's 1 finale.
Sadly,the idea was scrapped.
Is Marge a furry?
I love that the Simpsons family are superheroes after they respawn! That's incredible! 😍😍😍😍
Interesting to watch. I always ran out of quarters by the second stage. Never knew what happened after that stage.
3:26 and 24:29 Homer is a real champ at bonus stage's
Man,...this games is from 1991 or 1992 i think..
Great graphics and sound!
I think it is more like from 1995. The original version was produced in 1991
@@klaushein7446 Naw its from 1991
If they fixed the color palettes on some characters, this would be better. As it is I still like it partially because I'm a fan of the Simpsons
This was one of the last 8-bit hardware arcade games released by a major company..
this game warped me into a new dimension as kid!
When I was small, I used to play this at the local Godfathers pizza, couldnt go pass the krustyland stage. It took me 10 years until I found this gem again
Between me and my brother, it cost $15 of quarters to play from start to finish. Happy to finish this game
Lol you can just play it on ur PC for free
5:34 As soon as the "Pogo the Rabbit" NPCs appear, this really proves this wasn't just made by Simpsons fans, but by people with a deep understanding of Matt Groening and his body of work. Because how many people woule actually be familiar with "Life is Hell"? What a total love letter!
I played this a few hours ago at a pizza place because it was my birthday party and i did the whole game as bart in single player. (fyi the reason i didnt play the game with anyone else was because we got to the pizza place like an hour and a half earlier so we could set up everything so nobody was there yet)
Edit in 2023: forgot I commented this I think this was after my 9th or 10th birthday since I’m 16 now and I’ve been really wanting to replay this game for a while but unfortunately the pizza place got rid of the cabinet and I don’t have any good ways of emulating the game rn so sucks for me I guess
Probably only cost you about 200 bucks.
If you did you must’ve spent a fortune
I did the same thing at an arcade
I literally spent $56 doing that shit and if I could do it all over it probably would do it again.
Aww id have helped as homer
This was the game that brought us together as a family
I've so many memories with this one. It was the first videogame I played as a child. Every level is a reminiscence.
Oh yes spent many a quarters playing this in the arcade on the Rehobeth Beach DE boardwalk in the early 90s
Yeah the arcades on the boardwalk had the best
games
Very Good Gameplay My Friend , Congratulations !
Holy shit, i used to play this with my family when i was a kid back in the 90's...
Holy shit you are old now
My parents didn’t let me watch the Simpsons so I would sneak off the arcade and play this. Only beat it once… accomplishment!!!!
My parents let me watch the Simpsons. They also let me watch South Park...
Ahh yes this was that one game that was always at that one pizza parlor back in the day
Check the 26:05 mark. Y'all notice Marge has rabbit ears under her wig when she gets shocked? Matt Groening changed her character design and got rid of them later.
22:26 One of the original trollfaces.
Ja, buns and ties!
Man, I remember playing this back in the day. Way more fun than the new Simpsons games.
Great arcade game. Thanks for posting.
I loved playing this in the arcade! The following are observations I've made from playing thru the DREAMLAND level:
Played so much of this as a kid, surprise this isn't available for the modern day consoles, or a HD remastered version!
Homers got no weapon cause he's a good bare knucle fighter.
I loved that game, used to play it when I was a kid in the neighborhood back in the ‘90s.
pumped ungodly ammounts of cash into this game. worth every cent
Families that fight together, stay together!❤
I remember scrounging around for every available quarter in the house when I went to the movie theater for this arcade machine.
At 12:46, the dude is so blazed. LOL!
Asaka learned her hip attack from Marge Simpson
and peach
It's so accurate
You right.
This and metal slug were my favourites at the arcade
I didn't know you could pick up the police car in the first level.
It takes two people to pick up the police car in the first level.
I used to play this game after watching a movie at the theater. It was so addicting and took a lot of my quarters!
7:21 lmao when my cousin and me played this game at the ranch and other kids scream so badly cause we were scared because of the cutscene, man nostalgia is powerful..
When I was little, there was a party place where this game was, I always asked for it for my birthday to play this game with my family, it was a good time 😊🎉
Remember when Konami used to make money from arcade games and not gambling games?
I adored this game when I was 5 in the arcade. My poor mum must have spent a fortune.
Muy bueno para recordar. Muchas gracias por los maravillosos recuerdos.
THE SOUND EFFECTS.
THE NOSTALGIA.
THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!!😄😄😄❤💜❤💜❤💜❤I can see that this was drawn in MS paint judging by the pixel art.(That's an awesome aesthetic) Even today, this is still radical. The graphics aren't even bad, They look amazing!😎 (especially the cutscenes) :3
Wait, you were joking about the ms paint thing right?
Violet thebat cool
it was not drawn in ms paint
When i was in high school, I worked at an arcade, this was always our most popular game, Daytona, and area 51
