    Great video. Happy Mother's Day to Mother Phil. I hope she was treated like a queen. I have heard about drains in the fields over in the UK from other videos but this is the first time I seen a real drain being dug etc. We don't have any on our farms here in Canada. At least in Alberta where I was raised there isn't any. It's very interesting watching how things are done in different place.

    Great video Phil but down our way in the sunny south we would use pea gravel as drainage stone!' And not run it all the way to surface!!!!

    Great video👌👍 Why are ye going so high with the stone in the drain when you’ll be continually plugging it for tillage?

    • @agrifan5349
      @agrifan5349 3 роки тому +4

      If you don't fill the shore up to ground level with stones you're wasting your time and money. Fill her up level with stones and tramp the soil over the top. And only use a pipe if you havd a good fall for the water to run. If you havent got a good fall the water will lie in the pipe and block over time with silt

    • @downtown123
      @downtown123 3 роки тому +1

      @@agrifan5349 I understand your point. My own preference for drainage would be corri pipes and over the stone followed by 18 inches of soil as less chance of getting blocked and the silt doesn’t wash down into the pipe. I’d be just wary with continuous tillage would the stones from the drain get dragged around the field. Corri pipe is dear though. Especially for long runs of drains

    • @richardthomasmillican3980
      @richardthomasmillican3980 3 роки тому +1

      @@tom4412 Depends on the surrounding topograpy, drain falls, but generally 500-600 below base of topsoil, to allow subsoiling to be undertaken, in dry conditions, to allow water to run through that inpermeable clay to the drain.
