I’m super impressed that you’re sharing your experience with us, including your introspection and analysis of what went wrong. Glad you’re on the mend!
I cheered out loud when I saw the ending. Glad you’re ok. A stolen car ran a red light and t-boned me a few years ago. Nothing I could do about it but modern safety tech saved my life. That’s why I love the CTR. You can have a track car with all the safety you need when lightning strikes. I was shaken up for a while but with time it dissipates. Glad to see the CTR did its job and kept you safe.
@@GodisGood941sounds like based on how he said modern tech saved him, he had no reaction time whatsoever and it was the crash technology the car was equipped with that saved him from a worse outcome
I'm preparing for my first HPDE with SCCA at Carolina Motorsports Park next week. This was really scary to watch and listen to, but I'm very glad that you're okay. This will serve as a reminder for me to always consider the the worst-case scenario when pushing my car on the track, and to never skimp out on track insurance or safety equipment. Thank you for sharing ❤
Glad you’re safe. Many of these track insurance companies are just brokers. Not surprised they said their hands were clean after you’ve paid your insurance premium.
So glad you made it out of the incident.. It looked HORRIFIC on the screen, I can only imagine what it felt like being in the car. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and your thoughts, and you deserve the ending in this video. Excited to see what's to come and be safe out there! Much love from South Africa 🙏
I admire your honesty and talking us through the process. Really glad you’re okay and I loved the ending! Look forward to seeing you back out there, subscribed.
I'm glad you are okay! Thanks for sharing your experience, I know it must be difficult to talk about. A few months ago, my car was hit by a trucker not paying attention (thankfully no injuries!) so I know the sadness and anxiety a crash can bring. Hope to see you on track again soon!
The modern cars with 12 airbags surrounding the driver and passengers are far ahead of what was out 10 years ago. I think Elon Musk was talking about seat belts becoming redundant in the Tesla's due to the airbags they have in their cars. It also helped he crashed into a grassy field and not a wall or someone else.
I have been following your build for a little while now both on here and on the forum. Contemplating what to do to my FL5 before it sees Mid-Ohio this year. When I saw the video of the crash it felt like a gut punch. I am so glad to hear you are doing okay, that is the most important thing. I am also glad to know the Type R did what it was supposed to do. I am also glad to hear that you intend on going back out on track again. Gotta be honest, that pan to see the new Type R gave me chills!! Cannot wait to see what's in store!
I've got some big plans for this R, but I'm going to start out a little differently. PPF is an absolute must! The white R didn't have PPF and the track scaring was insane. I do have a stock pile of awesome stuff both at my house and at work, but need to get some of the basics before I attempt "the build". Intake, downpipe, exhaust, intercooler, and flash pro to name a few. Seems like a short list, but it's a big investment! This also serves as a reminder to everyone that you are accepting risk when going to any track, and that sometimes the difference between a bad crash and staying on track is something as simple as maintenance throttle. I've seen very few unavoidable crashes at the track. The majority of the crashed cars that go home on tow trucks after every track weekend mostly come down to simple mistakes, and single car involvement. (I've seen a car upside down on a double yellow warm-up lap). If you find you are making simple mistakes, then you're likely tired/dehydrated. Pit the car and give yourself an honest assessment. Often time the investment in the track weekend pops up in your mind first as the reason to push on, but ultimately it isn't worth your safety or the investment you've made in your car. (I got to learn that the hard way). Lastly, BUY TRACK INSURANCE, INVEST IN GOOD SAFETY EQUIPMENT, AND ALLOW YOURSELF THE TIME NECESSARY TO LEARN EVEN IF YOU AREN'T AN INSTRUCTED DRIVER!
@@pointbypatrol Very well said! I will 100% be investing in track insurance and the best safety gear. Way too much on the line not to. Looking forward to following your build! Stay safe!
Glad you’re ok and getting back in another Type R. I’ve really enjoyed your channel. The oil change video came in handy today and I’ll be using the transmission fluid video eventually!
Sorry for all the crap you had to deal with. Glad you’re okay and willing to get back on that horse that kicked you. It’s good that you have a good support system. Good luck out there.
Glad you're ok and you got everything resolved! I've had to deal with track insurance as well and it's a pain. Love the new Type R! Hope you to see you on track sometime soon!

Brother glad this turned out ok for you! Spent lots of time on the track but never in anything front wheel drive and damn you we’re pushing that little thing! 😊
Get back at it as fast as possible. Even driving regular car at high speed will do. Its to stop yourself from over thinking the crash which could make it harder to get back at it.
Glad to see you are alright from the wreck. Sh** happens sadly and sounds like your comeback is going to be even stronger than before. Lesson learned, if you are feeling fatigued on the track - just get off the track and call it a day...
Glad to see you're ok and safe. Your vehicle is currently being rebuilt on youtube and all put together now. A youtuber has made 3 videos on it recently.
You might be looking at the rebuild from Gears and Gasoline. That wasn't my car. My old car was purchased at auction last week, and I believe there is an attempted rebuild happening!

The overall situation sucks but you handled it perfectly. I am really excited because I also have a black fl5 type r and I cant wait to see what you do to it!
Glad it all technically worked out for you man. Dealing with any type of insurance never seems to be an easy task, at least in my experience. Looking forward to seeing the future videos.
Glad you're OK and thanks for sharing your experiences with Lockton. I was there the weekend before and used Lockton in lieu of Hagerty due to the price. I think I'll switch back to Hagerty!
I've enjoyed watching all the mods you have made to the Civic except the ones covered in this episode 😪 Glad you are OK tho and look forward to more content👍
It’s good you are ok brother, mistakes happen and nobody is impervious to it. I’m glad you going back out there to race again, cause a lot of people would give up 💪
Thank you! The thought to give up never crossed my mind! I want to become a FWD specific instructor, and need to keep refining my skills so that I feel confident directing a novice driver!
Great video man, really appreciate your honestly and willingness to share. I think it's strange that the track community doesn't share details of crashes...in most safety cultures I've worked in, you share this stuff so people learn/doens't happen again. I always use Lockton so good to know you had some challenges - seems like it got sorted out in the end. I believe you are coming to the TSCC event at VIR in May? If so, be cool to catch up. Easy to spot me, the only VW station wagon on the track. Hope you also invest in a Simpson Hybrid S HANS this go around.
The head guy at NASA MA said that he might be interested in using it in the classroom, but we'll see if that actually happens or not. Also, to your point, I think that sharing and talking about it is extremely important. How terrible would someone feel if they saw this same thing happen to someone else, and they had just decided to keep their silence. The best news on all of this is that it was a completely preventable accident, and it came down to the basics, and that's teachable! I'll be out there! Don't be a stranger, and I'll look for you as well! Just bought a Hybrid Hans as well!
Nice.. glad you didn't die. Also glad you didn't pack in the track driving. Hope it leads to something like a full race car and some safety upgrades to keep you as safe as possible in whatever your driving quickly on a track. Can't wait for the next videos.
Terrible what you have been through from the very start bud, and the messing around that you received from the insurance provider 😢 But the great thing is that it’s all sorted out now and you are back in another Type R !! 👍😃😃
Bravo my dude! I am so glad you are OK. Awesome to see you back on a new CTR. Keep sharing your service videos, they are the best in UA-cam. Also, just my .002 cents... Why do you have to push so much in the track? I would just take it a bit easier and take the opportunity to learn and improve. Shaving 0.5 seconds from your time... who cares? Have fun and enjoy the ride.
Just FYI, most HPDE insurance goes through RLI, including hagerty and lockton, they are the underwriters. I'm assuming that's the adjuster you were dealing with, unless he was 3rd party. But maybe other companies will be better. Glad they paid out and you're ok
So, not to dump on your circumstances, but from my experience, YOU have to disclose all modifications to your insurance before signing anything, so the fact that you track insurance paid you out without you disclosing and adding all the new modifications to your policy is something they didn't have to do but did is a huge win. My hats off to locton ins. For going above and beyond.
Lockton does not mention this in their policy, nor do that ask when you purchase the policy. You definitely have to do this ahead of time with Hagerty and Open Track though!
Saw your crash video a week or so ago. I am glad you addressed the insurance claim process. I was wondering if you were even going to be able to get a successful claim for crashing on a race track.
@@pointbypatrol I caught that during your video. So your normal Insurance was not used just the track specific insurance? Also thank you for doing this video. I have always wondered about track or racing crashes not only the PTSD from it all, but the "making you whole" again with the insurance side.
@sn4rl277 No. I didn't use my normal insurance for this. There are a few companies out there that sell "HPDE Insurance" which is specifically intended for incidents that occur on the track or in the paddock. The insurance is sold by declared value or ACV in some cases. So you need to make sure you insure the car enough in order to be made whole again. It's important to keep all receipts for performance parts, and also not a bad idea to check the "value" of the vehicle as if it was bone stock on a website like KBB prior to selecting the amount of coverage you'd like. The PTSD side I really have yet to experience. A few nightmares here and there, but during my waking hours I'm at peace with it. The real test will be when I get back on track.
@@pointbypatrol Great info, thank you for explaining it all. Good to hear on the PTSD side of things. Yes, hopefully when you get back out there it doesn't effect you at all. I really wanted to purchase a FL5 last year but the markup was crazy, so I ended up with a 10th Gen Accord 2.0t Touring. The K20C is a beast, with tons of torque for the 3,300 lbs Accord. Hoping to snag a FL5 down the road someday. It has to be one of the best looking Honda's to date. Good luck and thanks again for the explanation of the track insurance.
if you are running just the stock 3 point harness and you don’t have a head and neck restraint device, take a look at the Simpson Hybrid S. yeah it’s a lot of money but it’s cheaper than dying. i was skeptical at first but now i wouldn’t do a track day without out it.
Watching the crash footage. I think in that speed trap zic-zac zone, you turn the steering wheel to rapid. Combined with the driving (you went too deep into the apex). It should be kind of a gradual slide. Try to go straight instead of fishtailing. And then... 😅 It oversteered. But at that time you can still save it by giving it some gas. It's a wrong wheel drive so the front axle gonna pull the back and straighten it out. *Just my personal opinion tho, I am not a professional driver by any means 😅*
Glad your okay. it happens to the best of us. what are you going to do with those parts you installed on old civic? are you going to take it all out before turning in the car?
@@pointbypatrol Sorry to hear that. I was hoping you can maybe reuse something, maybe intake at least. Well, to new and better things! Best of luck on your new journey.
Glad you made it. So ummm... Hey you wanna sell those front seats? How much? Also. Did your normal vehicle insurance you carry go up? This incident does not show up on your MVR?
I just saw your Car in Auction Sorry for what happened to you. Do you think the motor can still be saved? Look like it damaged the carter .... Thinking about bid on it.
Oh wow! I'd love to see pictures! The turbo is broken, but the engine cut off on impact, so it might be okay. I was two feet in when I hit. Let me know how much it sells for!
Hagerty was about the same price. 10% deductible on your total. Also specifically asks for every mod you have on the car that you want covered too. Thankfully I haven't had to make a claim... yet lol
Woe as me!! I feel so sorry for this poor little rich dude who wrecked his brand new Civic Type R on the race track then filing an insurance claim to get another one. Cry me a river. 🙄🙄😭
I went through some bullshit with my insurance company 18 months ago. That stress - I’d make sure I wouldn’t have any problems on the track with insurance regardless of cost. I don’t track, or have the care capable of it. I’d loose my shit if they wouldn’t call me back. 😂

We were all amazed at how well the car held up all things considered! For what it went through, it really isn't that bad!
So when you say nothing you could do, do you mean in terms of reacting to it or do you mean dealing with insurance following that?

It oversteered. But at that time you can still save it by giving it some gas. It's a wrong wheel drive so the front axle gonna pull the back and straighten it out.
*Just my personal opinion tho, I am not a professional driver by any means 😅*
Closing out with a sinister blacked out ctr
Glad your okay. it happens to the best of us. what are you going to do with those parts you installed on old civic? are you going to take it all out before turning in the car?
All that stuff was destroyed
@@pointbypatrol Sorry to hear that. I was hoping you can maybe reuse something, maybe intake at least. Well, to new and better things! Best of luck on your new journey.
I get to drive that new black beauty over Memorial Day Weekend. 🤤😁
Buyer beware. Just remember insurance and really anybody who sells any products entire goal is to get your money not give it back.
Glad you made it. So ummm... Hey you wanna sell those front seats? How much?
Also. Did your normal vehicle insurance you carry go up? This incident does not show up on your MVR?
Nope. No changes to my standard insurance. Unfortunately I no longer own the car. The insurance company does, plus the airbags in the seats deployed.
@@pointbypatrol damn.
I just saw your Car in Auction
Sorry for what happened to you.
Hey man again sorry for the accident.
I was able to win the Auction on your vehicle and I will rebuilt and have it back in the Road soon.
hell yeah get back in that seat bro
I went through some bullshit with my insurance company 18 months ago. That stress - I’d make sure I wouldn’t have any problems on the track with insurance regardless of cost. I don’t track, or have the care capable of it. I’d loose my shit if they wouldn’t call me back. 😂
Insurance is never fun...
Gangster outro.
