Obviously the unseen force is the Game Designers. They notice how much you suck at moving through the dungeons, so they throw your character out of it.
I got a theory, "Arceus" see's you and your partners as heroes since you go on daring missions to rescue people and stop evil. Once you take too long on a floor he rejects you from it because he believes you are lost. He doesn't want to watch a rescue team need to get rescued and have their reputation shatter. So in order to prevent you from getting lost and having to face shame, he summons a storm to gust you out. The gusts of wind beforehand was the storm gathering. The reason he doesn't rescue normal pokemon who get lost is because he see's no worth within them. What's the point of helping something worthless?
This always scared me as a kid and it still does today! It first happen to me in explorers of Darkness when I was in the frozen time dungeon that was already creepy enough. I got to what I consider a glitched floor that didn't have a staircase *anywhere.* After a while I was getting annoyed at the fact I couldn't find the staircase, but then the screen started to *violently rumble.* I was confused at the idea of this unseen force and started panicking. The rumbling was getting louder and more constant, my heart was beating out of my chest. Until I was in a narrow hallway fighting a steelix, and then, BOOM! I was done for and I resisted crying a little out of fear when I saw the final text box appear. I was incredibly confused about my death if it was story driven or if my copy was haunted ( I've read a few creepy pastas by that time). I couldn't find any information about this when I googled it and assumed the latter, I didn't touch that game for *weeks.*
Maybe Arceus creates the floors as you go along. The dungeon is a pocket dimension which changes every time it is entered, and each floor disappears after a certain amount of time. If this happens, all in the floor get completely destroyed. Arceus' plan? Blow them out if something goes wrong or the floor is about to collapse. (Sometimes, items can resist this wind, explaining how you lose some stuff.) He can also destroy floors if a new explorer comes in and the old floors haven't been destroyed yet.
Wow, I finished the game and didn't even know about the "unseen force" at all...it's indeed kinda creepy. For a moment, I though you talked about the turn-based mechanic. That gave me some chills at the beginning.
lucy stewart it takes a long time until you get the message, about 200+ steps, you would have gone through 2 apples. I found this while farming for level and items.
Absol Lover I always did the whole map of every stage. Never got this. NEVER. So basically, you can do every dungeon with around 200 Steps... Well... Or it does only appear if you sit and wait.
Absol Lover floor, not a dungeon? I don't get this description. But whenever I was in anything, I used to do all the parts of the map and looked at every edge of it... So I happened to be in one stage for some time. One floor. You know?
klonvomhaus every floor, like F1,F2,BF1,BF2, etc. If you stay around on a floor for too long, you get blown out of the dungeon. Its much like Pokemon Black2/White2 in the abyssal dungeon. if you proceed in the next room, the timer will reset
I thought the large force of water in the Abyssal Ruins was a tad creepier. It starts off as a dull thump that's barely audible, until the whole screen shakes violently.
Yup when it said "its very close!" I literally just closed my DS in fear of what it could have been. At the time I didnt know it was just a pulse of water. However, I do wonder what the strange markings on the walls mean in the abyssal ruins and what caused the pulse of water. Finally how did the ruins end up underwater in the first place?

+Julio Cortez - Sure. The creepiness factor lies in when you are too weak to do anything about it. Which is for like 80+% of the game. Most people encounter him while grinding for items and levels early on, as was my case.
There's another theory about the unseen force: That it's the Mystery Dungeon about to change itself. Since they are different each time, it would make sense if there was a fairly frequent changing cycle. Plus if it generated a new floor while you are on it, it may not be survivable or you could get permastuck in a wall or something. So it just boots you out. That's unsettling in it's own way of course because it's like the dungeons themselves are alive, but the dungeons are made to always be possible to reach the stairs (though some RNG sure feels like they're not at times, lol!). So some sentience wouldn't be too out of the question because it could be thinking about how to make itself doable for it's inevitable restructuring and not off explorers outright. That would explain other Mystery Dungeon games too because they also randomize but aren't set in the Pokemon world to be Arceus. Though those worlds could have their own mythical gods as well of course. So who knows. Maybe it'll be revealed one day or maybe not and they'll keep players guessing.
The reason because PMD:RRR "knew of" Lucario is because of the newest Pokémon movie, starring Lucario, yet still being in the 3rd generation, as no other pokemon from gen IV show up in the movie.
The Gen 3/4 transition was interesting. I remember my mind being blown a few years back when I was playing Pokemon XD on Gamecube. There was a part of the game where you could attract Munchlax, and I was convinced that one was only in G4. Wacky stuff.
When I first saw that, I expected something powerful and (virtually) unbeatable like the Reaper from Persona 3 to start roaming the map, to make you get out of there faster This is a lot lamer than I expected tbh, I’m glad I never took too long on one floor in this entire series
That does remind me, I remember while playing Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer (which was also made my Chunsoft), there was an NPC that mentions the mysterious force that will blow you out of the dungeon if you take too long. I forget the exact text, I think the guy mentions that the force was from a certain god, but I do recall that the NPC does state that "After all, wanderers aren't supposed to stay in one place for so long."
but it makes sure to point out that there is some unseen force, implying that it isn't just a simple time limit. when there is little time left, does mario or sonic games have a message box pop up saying, "something is going to be stopping you soon" or something like that when there is little time left on the timer? nope. but this game does...
I think I know why it's there from a design perspective. (Played Gates to Infinity!) I would find the staircase, huddle my team around me in a corner, and fast forward turns. This made enemy Pokemon come to attack and my friends would defeat them, really easy exp. The timer forced me to keep exploring instead of farming.
Maybe it's an invisible helicopter and humans were in mystery dungeon all along! Well, maybe not, but then again how do you get factory made stuff like max elixers?
Wait... an invisible force... strong gust of winds... it FORCES you out of the dungeons, which means you escaped the force... Holy cow... this is actually possible
I like to believe that the unseen force is the dungeon itself. Every one who played a mystery dungeon knows that a dungeon changes every time you enter it. So my point is: The dungeons doesn't like to stay the same for too long so it tosses you out, what gives it the possibillity to change again. Maybe dungeons are even living things. Wouldn't be a surprise to me.
I think the reason for the turn limit is to prevent players from causing an integer overflow, where the value of the turns taken goes over a limit of 255. Integer overflows could cause glitches, so if this is the case, pretty good, but freaky, glitch prevention system.
I think the gust of wind is and always has been Gates to Infinity's sub-antagonist: The Winds of Despair. It all makes perfect sense. And it does NOT help one bit knowing the identity of the thing that's out to get you! Just to think you're constantly being searched for by *the literally* most wicked and evil force out there... Once it finds you, it starts coming your way and it's not "let's explore" anymore, it's "FLOOR THE ENEMY, I NEED THE STAIRS, *NOW.* "
Chances are the unseen force is raquaza or tornadus. Both of them are basically wind gods in the games. Plus raquaza was introduced in gen III, I think even being the final boss of the first mystery dungeon game's main game (someone correct me if I'm wrong). As for tornadus, well you already had that down when you made this video.
I have an odd theory This unseen force is (BEAR WITH ME) the ghost of a Swablu explorer who died before they could reach the stairs They think they're doing you a favor
That Unseen Force mechanic freaked me the heck out when I was young. But when I was exploring a dungeon and it took me forever to try to get out of the floor, the force got to me and I got so upset, mainly because it happened on a 99 Floor Dungeon, and I just gave up after that.
The unseen force isn't a Pokémon! It's Sonic! He gets impatient with you taking your time because he's speedy, and goes Super and uses his Tornado Spin (SSF2) to expell you from the dungeon! Sonic-and-Pokémon crossover comfirmed!
Didn't know about this one. On the other hand, the chance of a monster house to spawn every time I stepped in a room scared the hell out of me and my childhood =(. And when it did, the music made me jump like crazy.
Ah Pokemon mystery dungeon. Its music and surprisingly compelling story will always have a place in my hea-OH ARCEUS NOT THE WIND! ANYTHING BUT THE WIND!
Yeah, this nearly made me crap myself when I first discovered it. What I was trying to do was recruit a hard pokemon to get, and I was just getting unlucky, when suddenly I saw that first message pop up. I was a little unnerved, but I purposefully stayed on that floor cause I was curious about it. The "Something's coming" message made me think a legendary was about to show up or something! So I got super scared and just started waiting for whatever was coming to get me. Scariest buildup I ever had to sit through! D: But then I just got forced out the dungeon, which I kinda thought was a little disappointing. I thought Poke-Satan was gonna descend upon my team and eat them or somethin. I had a weird imagination XD
Thankfully, something like this will never happen in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 5 because the unseen force was removed from this game, thanks Spike Chunsoft !
Since I've played Mystery Dungeon for a long time, I can probably give you my theory on who this "Unseen Force" is. In one of my Mystery Dungeon games (I think it was either Blue or Time), they didn't call it the "Unseen Force". I'm not sure what they called it, but I remember being a little kid and saying, "What the hell?" to my screen when I got kicked out. My theory on who it is really depends on the dungeon. Instead of leaves all the time, sometimes there's snow in the snowy regions or sand in the desert. So, I believe that it really depends on the inhabitants, but I believe that it could be a legendary Pokemon from each of the dungeons that can be doing this as punishment for dwelling in their territory for too long.
These are my theories: 1-Unknown Natural disaster: a pretty lame choice but it might be, when the game pops up "Something is coming" it doesn't specify if its a pokemon behind this or whatnot, something that would be questioning this is what type of natural disaster? Pokemon can create rain, snow, etc, but no one absolutely creates this effect (granted Mega Rayquaza has Delta Stream, but i don't think that is). 2-A move that resembles or is Whirlwind: Whirlwind effect forces the opposing pokemon to switch out in the main games, but in MD works different, pushing them, thats the issue. It really is a mystery, whether its a pokemon or not makes this really intriguing, the pokemon mystery dungeon world is really mysterious in many ways, I wish one day someone answers this unseen force.
I don't really have a clue why Tornadus hasn't been mentioned yet, maybe its because its Gen 5? Also, "Tornadus can travel at speeds of 200 miles per hour (300 kilometers per hour). It can also whip up storms with its tail, and is able to blow away houses." It has also been stated that he is a trickster. So he blows you out of the dungeon making you restart it and laughing all the while.
The empty belly which makes text bubbles blink red is also a creepy time limit in this game. I remember dying constantly in Sinister Woods because of this. It was then when I discovered it existed.
Wow that red rescue team opening hit me with nostalgia harder than I ever would have thought it could I never even beat that game (well I played blue rescue team but still) FR though the Tiny Woods theme and the music of either the level directly after it or the one after that really disturbed me for some reason Edit: as for explorers of sky, I never got past that gang of electrike and manectric. The damn inability to use status effect items and such really screwed me over
I'm kind of sad that you didn't show the Lucario Statue in Red Rescue Team. It's easily my favorite Pokemon game and I'm really glad you made a video on it.
That'd be funny if you had to stay in any dungeon long enough and the weird messages would eventually lead to some legendary pokemon fighting you or something xD
Wait there's a time limit to the dungeon games? I didn't know when I was exploring the whole of one floor for items I was actually walking closer and closer to death. Things just escalated quickly in mystery dungeons.
I remember when this happened to me. I was playing explorers of sky and when I saw the ''Something's stirring.....'' line I knew I was going to get kicked out of the dungeon. I was still freaked out because I was in a really long dungeon, and I didn't wanna do it again.. I never knew what happened though, because by the time the ''It's really close..!'' line showed up, I found the stairs.
The theme of most of the Mystery games is of a team that rescues pokemon, correct? that's usually the middle goal of the game, and it's how it sets up it's story. Humans are not meant to be pokemon, and, as hinted at many times before, the world itself is also alive (maybe even a pokemon) The unseen force, is the world itself rejecting the human/pokemon. It doesn't do so in the town because of the population itself - it's hard to determine whether or not one pokemon was once a human or not, but outside, with barely any others nearby? This is made even clearer by the fact that, by logic alone, after going through so many turns, the other pokemon in the dungeon should all be unconcious, or there should be very little of them left, so it would make it easier to find the one that doesn't belong.
+Asif Juran You didn't need to elaborate, for I'm pretty sure that even when the player's main character/pokemon isn't in the current dungeon ("Switch leader", BTW), "it" still happens.
I think the force is Mew. First of all, it existed as of Gen 1, so we don't need to assume that. It's known to be mischievous, which is why it takes you out of the dungeon. It also can learn every move. Ever. So that's why its gust of wind would be reasonable.
I know I'm more or less stomping on thin ice here, but Arceus can be considered a Pokémon parallel to the God of Abraham. Or, at least, those who I've talked to (admittedly not people who write official lore or anything) seem to think so. The omnibenevolence of the God of Abraham has been debated for a long time, and you probably get where I'm going with this. Pareto-optimally benevolent, maybe, but...
My vote would be on the wind djin trio being the cause of the unseen force. Fits their M/O and they could do it for no other reason than to have a good chuckle
I was looking for Pokemon to recruit, holding A&B in one spot and then that "unseen force" thing came and creeped the hell out of me. I had no idea they had turn limits in this game before that. I thought it was a random legendary encounter like Lugia or some stuff, and then curiosity eventually blew me out of the dungeon.
Obviously the unseen force is the Game Designers.

I think it’s just to prevent EXP farming...
Also I think I remember being stuck at the mail system if there was one XD

the mysterious force comes from a Snorlax sleeping in the dungeon, when it farts. it's stench is so horrible it's forces you to leave.
Oh, how I adore Mystery Dungeon.
I Sexually identify as an attack Hectorcopter. I also rate this 7.8/10 too many references to random shit. Is it a big or a remote-helicopter though?
rofl copter
I'm calling Lugia. Its Signature move is the second most powerful Flying type move and the most accurate (Without including guaranteed accuracy moves)
+epic.apri.39 I have to disagree, if you recruit Lugia, and play as hiom in the dungeon you can still get the message.
+Dr. Eggman Baby Lugia? :D
Dr. Eggman reasons.
epic.apri.39 Hmm, seems legit, but how would there even be a baby lugia in the first place. I think its
IDK actually
*cough cough* watch the movie starring lugia *cough cough*
The unseen force is just the dungeon itself, *it's alive.*
What the fri--THIS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME! NOW I'M GOING TO BE ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED PLAYING THIS GAME!
I think the reason for the turn limit is to prevent players from causing an integer overflow, where the value of the turns taken goes over a limit of 255. Integer overflows could cause glitches, so if this is the case, pretty good, but freaky, glitch prevention system.
But then why would the turn limit continue to exist up to PMD1DX, only to be removed later on, starting from PMD5 onwards ?
The unseen force is the being that raised the dungeons from the ground. It must be a magi!
Once it finds you, it starts coming your way and it's not "let's explore" anymore, it's "FLOOR THE ENEMY, I NEED THE STAIRS, *NOW.* "
+13gamerbullet
So, just WHO could've created those Winds of Despair?
I was expecting you to mention hunger at some point.
I have an odd theory
This unseen force is (BEAR WITH ME) the ghost of a Swablu explorer who died before they could reach the stairs
They think they're doing you a favor
@@thirdwheel9938 why not
That Unseen Force mechanic freaked me the heck out when I was young.
+Dylan Bullock
Mario (or Kirby, if Mario isn't strong enough) would've fired him from the Pokémon dimension by now.
Yveltal? Or maybe it's Lub Lub, not realising you've been Pokémon'd? Lub Lub has always been mysterious...
Great! Now I have to dig around my whole game library in the attic to find Pokémon Mystery Dungeon because I want to play it RIGHT NOW! Thanks
I didnt even knew this from my favorite series, thanks for that warning
Maybe In PMD4, That Mysterious Force Gets A Bigger Role, And It's Revealed To Be Yveltal!
FlygonTripleDeluxe EX AKA fireflowerx Nope
Lol no
That demon bird dragon boy was probally still bussy sitting in his coocon
The unseen force is wigglytuff being mad at you for taking too long.
Didn't know about this one. On the other hand, the chance of a monster house to spawn every time I stepped in a room scared the hell out of me and my childhood
=(. And when it did, the music made me jump like crazy.
THE FORCE IS SHREK
WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY DUNGEON??!
SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME A FORCE WAS GONNA BLOW ME
Please, get out for the sake of my sanity =3
No ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Ah Pokemon mystery dungeon. Its music and surprisingly compelling story will always have a place in my hea-OH ARCEUS NOT THE WIND! ANYTHING BUT THE WIND!
(sees Red Rescue Team title screen and hears awesome music)
*Squees with nostalgia*
It's obvious that it is MissingNO beacause he's a normal-flying type and he is always known as a mysterious force!
I AGREE
Bird/Normal type, actually.
Lillie Only bird
*Bird
ITS ALL TYPES TO ME!
But then I just got forced out the dungeon, which I kinda thought was a little disappointing. I thought Poke-Satan was gonna descend upon my team and eat them or somethin. I had a weird imagination XD
Thankfully, something like this will never happen in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 5 because the unseen force was removed from this game, thanks Spike Chunsoft !
what if it's a pidgey on steroids?
Pfffft, yeah right
And I am the Almighty Bidoof
Gustiiiiiiiiiiing haaaaaaaaaaard!!!!!!!!!!!
*Wailord appears* NOPE.
Pidgeot
stronk Pidgey
I have a fear of "rising insta-death" in games. (8-6 in New Super Mario Bros)
I think it's rayquaza just crossing his arms and tapping it's fingers like "come on man you suck"
These games just gave me the chills overall. I hated the mystery dungeon games
And there's also bubbles in water dungeons.
What the f-- I have never even seen the first warning out of all the times I've played ANY Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game!! This is SCARY!
Maybe Arceus is forcing you out because the dungeons are actually sacred ground.
I knew it, the "unseen force" had to be the Pokégod itself.
These are my theories:
1-Unknown Natural disaster: a pretty lame choice but it might be, when the game pops up "Something is coming" it doesn't specify if its a pokemon behind this or whatnot, something that would be questioning this is what type of natural disaster? Pokemon can create rain, snow, etc, but no one absolutely creates this effect (granted Mega Rayquaza has Delta Stream, but i don't think that is).
2-A move that resembles or is Whirlwind: Whirlwind effect forces the opposing pokemon to switch out in the main games, but in MD works different, pushing them, thats the issue.
It really is a mystery, whether its a pokemon or not makes this really intriguing, the pokemon mystery dungeon world is really mysterious in many ways, I wish one day someone answers this unseen force.
The unseen force is your little brother breathing down your neck as you play
That music after you said arceus is terrifying..
i love how you capitalized "He" and "Him" on arceus
I don't really have a clue why Tornadus hasn't been mentioned yet, maybe its because its Gen 5? Also, "Tornadus can travel at speeds of 200 miles per hour (300 kilometers per hour). It can also whip up storms with its tail, and is able to blow away houses." It has also been stated that he is a trickster. So he blows you out of the dungeon making you restart it and laughing all the while.
The empty belly which makes text bubbles blink red is also a creepy time limit in this game. I remember dying constantly in Sinister Woods because of this. It was then when I discovered it existed.
I first encountered this in Aegis Cavern when I was hunting for the right Unown stones to unlock the next couple of floors.
I only ever got to the first part of the "Something is stirring" thing, but it was enough for me to hide under my blankets for 2 nights.
I never even got to the first warning of the unseen force in PMD5, and that's because the unseen force was removed from this game.
Wow that red rescue team opening hit me with nostalgia harder than I ever would have thought it could
I never even beat that game (well I played blue rescue team but still)
FR though the Tiny Woods theme and the music of either the level directly after it or the one after that really disturbed me for some reason
Edit: as for explorers of sky, I never got past that gang of electrike and manectric. The damn inability to use status effect items and such really screwed me over
3:45 That. Music. Is. AWESOME!!!
It might unintentionally be a Lugia. His wings can tear down houses.
The unseen force could possibly be the bird form of Missingno.
Ngl, first time i got that "something is aproching..." messege on the remake, it scared the shart out of me. And it was like 2 AM too!
0:30 that's a weird walk cycle. The music makes it even worse. XD
Oh my god lmao
That reminds me of that one game where you walk to the beat of the music, and the games even kind of look similar.
I think that the unknown force is Rayquaza. It makes sense because Rayquaza is part flying and can learn moves like "Twister"
+Natalie Frisch even though peronally i never played mystery dungeon thats exactly what i was thinking
+Natalie Frisch
But how can it be Rayquaza if it still happens when you're playing as him? I am sure he wouldn't blow HIMSELF out of the dungeon. xD
+KoolredfoxPlays
What if there are TWO of them?
noneedforname
Well, that could be a slight possibility. Although, there's usually only one of every legendary in each Pokemon.
KoolredfoxPlays
Well, it might be Arceus himself because I don't think you can recruit him.
Dat HP tho.
This almost blew me out of a dungeon many times,in all the games. But it was normally in the last dungeon of the story/post game.
I'm kind of sad that you didn't show the Lucario Statue in Red Rescue Team. It's easily my favorite Pokemon game and I'm really glad you made a video on it.
Maybe the unseen force is tornadus
I always thought it was that evil Gengar waiting to assassinate you or something...
I think it's rayquaza as he's the final boss in the game
Lakshmi Wilding
zomgdrhax
i've never played it so i will never know
I think it is Lugia
Colin Bailey
we will never know! i still think it might be tornadus becuase he is the god of the wind in the pokemon world
More tense, not to mention on top of how hard mystery dungeon is in the first place
i get a real water wraith feel from this
The unseen force is a gust of wind Arecus makes when you bore him.
That'd be funny if you had to stay in any dungeon long enough and the weird messages would eventually lead to some legendary pokemon fighting you or something xD
Maybe it's Magicarp splashing you away.
Maybe it could've been a much stronger Flying-type Pokemon who knew the move Whirlwind?
Just an assumption.
I knew I wasn't mad when I first saw that I absolutely rushed to finish the dungeon after I saw the alert
I think that unknown force is the Mystery Dungeon floor wanting to reconfigure into a new format.
Even the overworld music is scary to be honest.
You mean tiny woods?
The theme of most of the Mystery games is of a team that rescues pokemon, correct? that's usually the middle goal of the game, and it's how it sets up it's story.
Humans are not meant to be pokemon, and, as hinted at many times before, the world itself is also alive (maybe even a pokemon)
The unseen force, is the world itself rejecting the human/pokemon.
+Asif Juran
You didn't need to elaborate, for I'm pretty sure that even when the player's main character/pokemon isn't in the current dungeon ("Switch leader", BTW), "it" still happens.
Extremmefan Ah, well, nevermind then. It was a crack theory, just made up on the spot, tbh.
I love you're videos!
I think the force is Mew. First of all, it existed as of Gen 1, so we don't need to assume that. It's known to be mischievous, which is why it takes you out of the dungeon. It also can learn every move. Ever. So that's why its gust of wind would be reasonable.
Not to mention that in explorers of sky, darkness, and time, there is a primal dialga.
