Paul- you might recall that I am born and raised in Chicago and lived there my entire life before moving to TX. A few things I would like to add to provide context. Chicago's crime problem is really a culmination of issues that really started in mid 90's. 70% of the gun crime in Chicago actually stems from 4 neighborhoods all in the south side of Chicago. In the mid 90's, Chicago decided to tear down the government housing (Cabrini Green and Robert Taylor Homes). When torn down, Chicago relocated the residents in other parts of the city and even into the suburbs which meant that now instead of having centralized crime which was easier to police, now it was smaller pockets all spread out. Then when Hurricane Katrina hit, Chicago took in a lot of people from there, along with other outsiders and tried cramming them all in small areas...thus oversaturating the population. This also meant that the hispanic and black communities were mixed up and that also caused a lot of frustrations. This is when we started seeing many of the hispanic street gangs come up... not only did they grow in numbers but they had an infinite influx of recruits available. Meanwhile, with the violence going up... Chicago shut down many of the public parks and also the Chicago Public Schools were going to shit by the minute.... so the youngsters had nowhere to go aside from the streets. Mix that in with the robust public transit system, these young "scholars" were highly mobile. Which meant they can go into suburbs where there is money.... make a drug or gun drop right at the train station and be gone. This lead to territory battles..... which train belongs to whom, which suburb belongs to whom etc etc. And the ones who stayed in the city were now making deals with cartels and other gangs from the south... and the I-90/I-94/I-294 became the drug and gun corridor highway. Do you see how it all relates and adds up?

Conversely, where I live here in the Northeast (Constitutional Carry State) we have many folks from up and down the East Coast visiting here every summer. Yet, we have one of the lowest per capita crime rates in the country. The gun grabbers want everyone to believe that inanimate “tools” are causing all the problems in these big cities. If that was the case, my little state would be overrun with criminals. The truth is that an armed society is a polite society. JMHO…

This is NOT a flex. We live in Idaho's biggest drug distribution center, but nobody gets shot, very few people die from violence. The difference between us and Chicago? Idahoans carry, every day. Dealers and transporters keep their heads down and don't draw attention to themselves because their customers and potential victims will shoot back.

As a veteran and lifelong Chicagoan I can honestly say that this is not the guns. To my friends and family who disagree with me I suggest they live in prison. No guns there so it should be safe, right? Our major issue here is that our politicians are cookie cutter copies of one another. It’s nearly impossible to get someone with radically different ideas on the ballet, let alone win.

Exactly. I moved out of Chicago on March 17, 2017. I was told after I posted I could not afford the higher taxes on my paid for house, they said, we are glad you moved. I never responded to them or any other posts as such. It's all about embezzlement of public funds for them. I never went back even for a visit. Voted with my money, and moved. You are correct on their ponzi scheme their organizations.
I moved too, in 2021! I make a good living, and could afford the high taxes. But why should I pay such high taxes? What did I get for it? My rights striped, unsafe streets, and a system that punished me because I am white on the outside. No worries!! I now live in a state that mostly respects my rights, safe streets, and low low low taxes. Ahhhhh, FREEDOM!! For those still residing in IL my pronouns are: ULTRA, MAGA, DEPLORABLE, and CULT45!! Not really. It's not hard to get concealed carry in Illinois. The assault weapon ban may suck of it's own accord, but it doesn't prevent anyone from carrying self defense guns.
My husband and I grew up in a small city, especially compared to Chicago.
We now reside outside the city limits, and for good reason.
The mayor (a dem, of course) does absolutely nothing to help stop crime, drugs, and homelessness. He's tied the police departments hands as in they aren't allowed to pursue and of course no bail, so we have numerous frequent flyers. Theft is a huge problem as well because, of course, there aren't any consequences.
We have juveniles who are out committing all kinds of crimes late in the night, which includes thefts, car break-ins, and shootings as well.
And no parenting, just excuses.
And God forbid someone runs in a pursuit from our county or state agencies, and something bad happens because then it's their fault and not the person who ran and didn't care about putting others in danger due to their selfish actions.
I could go on,but I won't. Make the consequences fit the crime, and it things will change.
It takes enforcing our laws already on the books, including curfews for these juveniles.
If I smash my finger with a hammer its not the hammers fault it's mine for not paying attention.
Same as certain tools that don't fire by themselves in these situations.
