UPGRADING LAPTOP!! | ASUS TUF FX504 | SSD and RAM [2019]

- The ASUS TUF FX504 laptop is a beast by itself from stock. But adding an extra 8GB of DDR4 RAM to it even makes it faster. The RAM also works as video memory making your GPU more powerful. Multitasking is much easy. Adding an SSD for extra storage is a must espacially when you have a steam library to host. Having the Kingston SSD means that boot times will be snappy and editing off of it is much better than a HDD.

disconnect the battery first!!!
Yes please do that... I forgot to.
@@mdaamirkhan5901 Done!
how can we disconnect the battery?
@@stn6408 the battery is the big black thign on the botton left of the video, you just have to disconnet the little cables that comes out of it right in the middle of the top. Don't forget to connect it back again
Very nice job, you makes seems it very easy, your video inspires me to upgrade my asus laptop, even when I don’t have wide knowledge about informatic themes, thank you!
Great Video. Very Detailed, Slow Paced and Accurate. Keep it Up
God bless you man. A talented boy in computers 👏👏
Thank you for showing where the screws came from, took mine out and forgot what holes they came from.
Great video mate!
Well done broozy, thx, God bless you.
Bro just upgraded my ram and ssd in my fx504 with your help. Can't thank you enough! 🔥🔥
Can u tell me which ssd u bought?
How the lap is now fast or slow
@@funhub3993 it's much better now. With the ram i can multitask much easier and having my programs installed on the SSD as opposed to an external usb harddrive, they load MUCH faster
@Gavri Daniel do you mean it turns back off after that one second? If so, then just check to make sure all the connections are tight and secure and that everything is back where it should be. What did you upgrade specifically, ram, ssd or both?
@Gavri Daniel are you certain the ram is compatible with the laptop? There are very strict requirements for what you might need
Always shy about upgrading laptops. Just got a TUF 705DT same style/build and it's exactly the same to upgrade. Nice to have a walkthrough though! Thanks!
Awesome video! Thank you!
Nice video helped me a lot
I have the same laptop.
FX504.
The frame of the disc comes out with only 2 screws (6:52 - the one on the right side of your finger to the right (close to the left speaker) and the other one close to the M.2 screw). Then you can easely remove the HDD from the frame and replace with another one.
nice video bro!
Thanks man great video
Great tutorial👍
Great video! I am going to add an SSD to mine since it only has the M.2. I just wanted to make sure there was a spot for it before I take this thing apart. Thanks!
I'm really confused between m.2 and m.2 nvme, which one is supported in asus TUF fx504? please help
@@sarthak1317 By contrast, M.2 is only a connector, which plugs into the PCIe bus interface. Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) is a technology for storing data that is fast enough and low-enough latency to connect to the PCIe bus interface via the M.2 connector.
This gives you some options. You can get an M.2 drive that accesses the SATA bus instead of the PCIe bus, which is convenient but doesn’t max out the connection speed. Or, you can get NVMe drive that accesses the PCIe bus and gets all the speed and latency benefits that come with that.
From what I can tell the fx504 will support either one. NVMe is faster but probably more expensive
@@sarthak1317 I installed this NVMe SSD www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07YFF8879/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@sarthak1317 there is one slot for m.2 sata ssd (in which currently the hdd is present) and one slot for m.2 nvme ssd. Mind it, you can't add nvme ssd to the slot of the hdd . and neither the sata ssd to nvme slot. hope that helps.
Great video! Straight to the point and simple to understand for a console idiot like me.
I haven't opened mine yet, and I don't feel like doing so just for exploratory surgery. What is the brand of the stick that comes in the laptop? I can't seem to find that answer and I want to match the sticks' brand and speed before I order the part, let alone attempt to install it.
Thank you for sharing bro
nice job, I'm ordering my parts in Newegg as I finish this comment.
I'm actually not her for an upgrade I'm here because I need to replace my hard drive because of a smart error. You were the only one who has the same model as mine
Same! my hard drive started acting up yesterday and here I am.
thank you.. this is very helpful.
Hello brother, I bought a HyperX RAM, did you have any problem with the frequency of Hz?, Because my laptop being 2400 only works at 2133
Couple of things for people tha want to upgrade there Asus tuf.
Try to use the same memory sometimes 2 random Ram modules dont work.
If you try to upgrade your harddrive TAKE THE TRAY OUT.
if you bend the harddrive that way like he did it you might break the connector.
The harddrive is in a metal bay thats connected with 2 screws so you dont have to pull it up.
Interesting... I actually didn't know that the tray was removable.
@@ZackEberly its okay. Most laptops use that type of bracket idea. First you install the drive in the bracket and then install the bracket into the laptop.
does anyone know what the stock ram brand is? i’m planning on just adding 1 8gb of ram next to the stock one and wondering what the brand is so they both can be the same
@@snookfishingfl212 best thing is to check for yourself than you always know if you have the same one.
Mine had 1slot with a stick called ---sk hinux 8gb 1rx8 pc4 2666v It can vary from country and or where it is shiped to.
Thank you for the video
I have asus tuf505dt . Do i need to change bios settings or anything after i upgrade to 32gb of duel ram . thx for the help :)
what is tha extra port next to the m.2?
Thank you soo much bro !
Dude still be hearting comments
What a legend.
I’d double heart this one if I could
@@ZackEberly lol ty
@@ZackEberly also ty for this video I have the same laptop and also I have a question, should I put extra 8gb ram or shall I put 16gb ram bcz it says dual power something something I guess
Well dual channel ram has double the peak data bandwidth than 2 different types of ram like I did in my laptop. Do I care not really. Should have I cared, yes cuz I could’ve had more performance. I recommend if you want 16gb of ram total. Buy a dual channel ram with each stick being 8gb for a total of 16gb. They’ll just come in a kit like that.
@@ZackEberly oh okay so you mean like ram that come like 8*2 on amazon? Like crucial kits?
Why my Hard drive is not detecting in bios?? Any idea?
I have the Asus FX 504 GM model. Will my Laptop support 2 TB SSD/HDD ??
Can you give me a link to the cloner and tools that you used.
Hi can I Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 SSD 1tb? my laptop is fx504GD i5-8300H and can i use nvme as storage for playing games? or can i install windows there and the game too?
How do I not fuck up choosing ram pamet for this laptop ? I mean if someone knows more can you tell me what to look for ?
It work with a tuf gaming 505dt- bq164t?
You got to put ram in for best results. How you remove sticker without hurting it?
Nice job
Does enclosure method of cloning works too? Im really scared on doing such stuff and i really need to change my damaged hdd cause its really slowing my laptop and instead i want to change it to ssd.
Not sure what enclosure method is... you mean cloning it to another drive while the HDD is still in your laptop? You can just copy and paste, then change the drive letter to the original drive. Then programs won't know the difference between the new and old drive.
Thanks for the video I'm planning on adding ram to my laptop! and where did you get the tools from?
My tools where a random collection of parts, but I HIGHLY recommend getting the ifixit pro kit. It’s the kit you’ll use for you whole life
Your great man that helped tnx
I have fx504gd core i5 8300h and gtx 1050 4gb, can i put 1tb m.2 nvme pcie gen 3x4 into it? Sory for my bad english, thanks 😀
Can you suggest me a new ram available for fx504
The author, and a series of TUF can be another SSD insert? Is worth on 512, and want another put.
Merci pour les travaux mon reuf
Tuf gaming fx504g support m.2 nvme or sata?
It's helps me a lot
what kind of ssd is compatible with this laptop?
Hey thanks for the video! I am about to disassemble my laptop and wanted to know what screwdriver to get for it. What should be the measurements of the screwdriver?
There small Phillips screws, so like so who cares what length it is.
Hi there is it possible to open the pc up without having the little purple tools you used ? If not, where can I get them ? Thanks a lot
Yeah there just cheap plastic things and anything that is plastic and flat should work- amzn.to/3jFAbCK
Hey Hopefully I can still receive an answer to this older video,
Can I also install a SSD which is bigger then the one you used to this laptop & is the Ram still up to date or is there a newer one which I could get ?
Thanks in advance.
Moritz
You can use any 2.5in ssd. You want a 8TB ssd go for it. As for the ram, it does work how most upgrades work in the way that your thinking. The laptop supports 2666MHz (or maybe higher) but that isn’t ever going to change. As long as you get the right version and speed/capacity that’s all you need.
thx!! greetings from chile
Question, does the amount of pins in the ddr4 sodim ram matter? Like a 204-pin, or a 260-pin?
Yeah massively. 204 pin is sodimm DDR3 and 260 pin is sodimm DDR4. They don't work interchangeably.
I have the same laptop. I need some help with something. If I have the hdd and an m2 nvme sad installed on it, do I have space for another ssd somewhere or I have to remove one of the installed ones?
No other place.
Is this laptop compatible with m.2 PCle?
How many storage can you put in for this unit???
do you know maybe how can I detach the heat sink in order to replace thermal paste I have the same design
I personally don’t know but maybe ifixit has a tutorial on it.
@@ZackEberly Thx for the reply will check it out
good video thank you. also if i upgrade ram do i have to upgrade ssd too?
No, you can upgrade them when ever you want. I just did for the convenience because I get a little nervous when working with expense stuff.
Welp rip I just bought a hyperX fury 16 gb ram and I opened my laptop only to find out I don’t think the chip fits it’s a 288 pin idk what the asus comes with but I don’t think it fits
Hey i have the i7 variant of this pc and a few months ago i started havimg problems with the hinges and im pretty sure this is a common problem on this laptop have you ever had that kind of problem with this laltop?
If so do you have any recommendations on how to fix it?
I have heard other people having this problem. As far as I know unless you still have your warranty on the laptop I don’t think there is a fix. Unless you’d salvage one form another laptop but I wouldn’t suggest that.
I have an ASUS TUF FX 504. Do you know if I can put another SSD (stay with two) or let my USSD (256GB) plus add a HD of 1 TB (non-ussd)? Does it have just one slot or it has two slots?
It has a M.2 slot and a 2.5in slot and that is it. Unless you were to remove the WiFi card and add another ssd that way but not really recommended.
Good video
I currently have an M2 SSD installed while the 2.5" slot is available. Do I still need to clone?
Only if you want to clone your existing m.2 ssd. I cloned to save my data on my 2.5in SSD which you don't have, so no. There is no reason for you to clone.
I'm a little new to all this, do you not have to back up windows and put it on a USB stick to recover once you're done? Or can you literally just put the new components in and be fine?
If your not removing your upgrading the boot drive then you don't need to do anything about windows. In my case, windows was on my m.2 drive and I didn't touch it. I added another SSD for extra storage and I did nothing with windows. If you do want to upgrade your laptop's boot drive then you will need windows installation usb drive. its free with the windows creation tool. Also prolly want a backup of your stuff.
we got the same item dude nice
Bro can you please tell me what all upgrades you have done to the gtx 1060 3gb version .
I haven't done any to the gtx 1060. I have only upgraded the RAM and add a SSD.
What is the size of your HDD bracket holder? I don't have a holder to keep the HDD. I want to know the right size.
2.5 inch
why do I have the same laptop, but mine has less copper cooling 😢
Hello, may I ask if the asus tuf fx504 is compatible with NVME M.2 ssd?
Yeah
wILL IT SUPPORT nvme SSD 1TB VARIANT?
what exact version of this laptop? because the heat pipes is different from others fx504 that i saw.....and what is the specs?
It is an FX504 but it is an upgraded version. Specs are i5 8300h, 8gb of ddr4, GTX 1060 3gb, 256gb m.2 ssd... plus the upgrades I did to it.
how did you get that red strip around the bezel
Its one of Asus designs
Unplug first the battery to avoid short circuits
In ram max speed is 2667 or can be 3200mhz in FX505DT?
Max speed should be 2666mhz
Dude, i have the same laptop, its came with PCIE ssd, i bought a kingston A400s sata3 ssd, but i dont have the screws there, what can i do? Working without screws?
You should have at least 2 or more.
I want to upgrade both rams but one of them has this metal like your laptop, what can I do in that case?
I'm pretty sure you can just move that metal flap out of the way.
Hi! What is the use for that gap under the battery? ( sorry for my bad englis)
I think you mean beside the battery and its just unused place.
@@ZackEberly ok, thx ! Have a good day
hey i have a asus tuf fx705 wonder what other parts are upgradable?
I believe so... if you have 8gb of ram you could upgrade to 16 or 32gb of ram total. Also you could add a 2.5in ssd for extra storage unless you already have one.
hello there do you have to disconnect the battery or can you uninstall ram like that
It’s prolly a good idea to do that.
hi, i have an 8gb DDR3L ram from my old laptop, can i install this in the other slot?
It only takes ddr4 so the DDR3 wouldn’t work as it is different amount of pins
opened up my Asus fx505dt but I cnt close it back properly. there is gaping space in the front. any help?
The clips that hold it together could be broken but the screws would hold in then. Apply some force... maybe take it off line up the front first then pop in sides and then the back.
@@ZackEberly it worked thanks. all it needed was a wee bit of pressure.
Nice video. Btw, have you ever get any hinge issue with this laptop? Cause mine is broke 2 times even after it fixed at the service center.
I haven't had to many problems but i must say it does kinda have a weak hinge.
i see
I am starting to regret for buying this laptop...
Hey, after u put in the rams, is there anything to do? Or the win 10 recognize it and thats all?
Thanks for the answer! :)
And do you have 2 ram slots here btw? Couse i can not see the other ram card?!
Nope, Windows 10 will recognize it. Just make sure you have the right type of RAM.
@@AttilaSzilvasi97 Yeah, the other RAM slot is covered by that metal tape at 3:42 Its right below the RAM slot i'm installing.
Can o remove the hdd holder, and replace the 40wh battery with a 90wh?
Unless the battery has the same connector I don’t think it’s possible
Which variant of FX504 you have? (Because there are 3 main variant FX504GD/GM/GE and not everyone support 500 GB SSD)
ASUS TUF FX504GM- WH51
Hey I want to ask, my fx504gd is currently has no ssd on its m.2 slot. Can I add a 256gb gen3×4 2280 ssd on it?
Sure that'll work.
@@ZackEberly thanks for the answer
i have the same laptop as yours ,,,, but i got so many problems regarding the cloning of the hard disk,,
What problems do you have?
This what I call
End game.
very nice
This was very helpful dude becuase I Will maybe upgrade mine but What kind of ram is it?
Check the description.
Seems they made it pretty easy to upgrade. How about the processor? Is there any way to replace it? I heard new ryzen 4000 processors are beasts
If you have an Intel cpu then you can’t upgrade to ryzen and I also think the ryzen 3000 has a different socket then the 4000.
Would you technically be able to switch to say a 1tb ssd or would something cause it not to work
Yeah that'll work. You could go higher if needed also as it's a 2.5 in.
HEY, i have asus504ge can i upgrade my ssd? nd whats the max limit of ssd.....can u tell ?
I know that 1TB will work but not quite sure if it would support a 2TB 2.5in SSD.
dual channel is activated automatically or do I have to configure it?
No it does it automatically
Does this laptop have an extra slot for ssd? Like for example can I use the original 1tb hard drive alongside an ssd?
It has a M.2 slot open on the motherboard. If you take a look at the inside of mine, you can see I have the m.2 ssd in.
@@ZackEberly ah i see. Thanks a lot man!
Hi, nice video ! Do you know if it easy to install Intel Optane inside ?
If your using the M.2 slot for your OS like mine, its not an option. But if you only are using the 2.5in slot with a SSD or HDD then you could install it in the M.2 slot.
thanks 😊
What are the best slots for 2 ram sticks?
There are only 2 ram slots...
Hey man great video I've just got one question I wanna upgrade the ram on Mine but do I need to replace my current stick with two 8gb or just add another 8 GB and if so what will be a matching stick ?
Depending who you ask are single stick will work but two sticks of RAM will work better with better performance
@@ZackEberly thanks for replying but my question wasnt answered lol
@@wilkiesxgaming I kinda did answer your question. NO you don't have to replace the current one but there might be some performance lose, and no it won't be a matching stick. You'd have to get dual channel memory
@@ZackEberly that's really helpful sorry for my dumbass lol will replacing the current one be the same process
Hello mate, I consulted ASUS regarding the hardware update; according to their suggestion for my FX504, I'm allowed to install 2 x 16GB DDR RAM by getting rid of 2 x 8GB of DDR RAM. As for SSD, that'd be P3 x 4 256GB M2 2280 NVME P; may I know what's your SSD capacity, and I wanna know if there'll be any space left for an extra HDD?
I have a 256gb for boot drive and i added a 480gb ssd for extra storage.
My ram won't read. It won't boot my laptop, but when I take the ram off it will boot up. What should I do?
It sounds like you have compatibility issues if your ram... What kind of RAM is it?
