Paccar engines are not that bad to deal with. As far as emissions systems go, the Dpf, Doc, and Scr, there are 3 things that can be done, 1. Is clean the fuel doser if start to see and increase in the amount of regens being done, this is also true for a Cummins. 2. The next time you change the oil, pull the inlet Nox sensor and remove and clean it's port (12mm Allen if I remember correctly) the ports fill with soot and can cause an issue. 3. In your DEF pump you can replace the internal filter, just need a 27mm 12 point socket. This can also be done with most of the major truck brands. When I work for Paclease these were some of the things that we did as part of our fleet maintenance.
The Paccar engine uses the Cummins after market for emissions, and Turbo is the same one Cummins uses also. It’s a Cummins motor from the turbo back basically.
That's a true fairy tale. The MX-13 is an engine from DAF Trucks the Netherlands, developed at Brainport Eindhoven. DAF Trucks is one of the three truck brands of PACCAR. 50000 mile oil changes line haul duty, I almost never idle this truck 2016 1,004688 miles on it Water pump clutch fan manifold and starter that's it gas been done. And still run s strong.
From what I've watched and read, the Paccar EGR and EGR cooler are junk.I have 2013 Cascadia with DD15 and still never have touched either EGR or the cooler, but I don't idle! That's the biggest #1 destroyer of these emissions engines 😁
Good video I just bought a 2014 Pete 579 with a MX 13 in it had the check engine light on changed the fuel filters in it and and bingo check engine light went out like you said. That being said the only real problem I am having so far is when the turbo winds down it sounds like it has a backfire problem of all things. I was told at a dealer almost all of them do it something to do with the egr valve I think. Its set to 485HP and does a decent job pulling at gross weight in the hills this is the first Paccar engine I ever drove its stronger than I thought it was going to be. Put 10.000 miles on it so far no leaks or using of oil idle is a little rough going to put in some Lucas injector cleaner and see if it helps any also in a couple of months going to get a overhead done Im sure it needs it by now.
When you hear that backfire that's the back pressure valve on the back of the turbo, it does that while the truck is self regen. I had to replace mine before but for the most part that's normal. The valve adjustment will definitely help and quite the motor down. I also was impressed with how well the motor did pulling hills, but alot of that has to do with the gearing setup of the truck.
Lucas can't hurt, but also keep an ear open on the idle, these like to regen alot at idle especially everytime you start the truck up but you will hear it smooth out when it's done doing that if you idle it long enough
