    21:29 Man you were one note closer to the Imperial March! XD
    But very nice video! I think this might be the best way to create virtual orchestral music. I haven't seen any plugin or pack more realistic than the Metropolis Ark!!!

    I started this vid hating that ridiculous accent and professing "there is no way i'm watching half an hour of some guy reviewing sounds", but by the end I wanted to bear all 12 of his babies.

    Guy, I just feel that I have to say thank you for all of the reviews that you do for these orchestral vsti's. It's invaluable to someone like me looking at purchasing but not sure which way to jump. Very helpful and practical demonstrations. I'd love to hear you review/demo Spitfire Albion, though I'm guessing that like the OT Ark 1 it might take an invitation to get that to happen. Can't be expecting you to buy everything under the sun when I'm trying to avoid exactly that myself. Thanks again.

      +riloh58 Thanks riloh, glad people are finding them useful. If things ever calm down enough this year, I might get round to doing a few other libraries including Albion ONE...

    Thank you for the review Guy. I really appreciate when people take the time to do these. I would suggest that you play longer and more musical examples when auditioning the sounds. It's much easier to make an assessment of the samples when they are played using more musical phrases or melodies. And attempting to play them close to how a real person would play is helpful. Still, the video was helpful and saved me some money. The worth of all these libraries are so subjective.

      +Aaron Garner It's always a fine line - I try to give a broad overview without taking forever, but also at least sometimes stop long enough to get a feel for how it should be used in anger.

    Top work Mr. Rowland! I really love your instrument walkthrough's. This library sounds pretty stellar to be honest. I have been following ProjectSam's Symphobia series of instruments for a while but this series is really intriguing me. I would be curious how the strings in spiccato interact with faster playing such as an Ostinato sequence or quick solo?

      +urbanlp555 Cheers! If you're up for a long one, try Daniel James' screencast - he's king of Ostinatos! ua-cam.com/video/7_78DJDi7aY/v-deo.html

    Good video, is there any way to disable the octaves of strings? I feel that the fact that they have sampled so is a mistake because it would limit much the composition.

    • @guyrowland4711
      @guyrowland4711  8 років тому +1

      +Owen barra ramos Sadly not - the patches named in octaves (or 8va) are baked in. I guess the library is very much geared towards a certain style of writing - BIG AND LOUD!

    Many thanks for the video.
    I have 2 questions:
    - is there any portamento function?
    - is there any dynamic modulation function?
    Thanks

      @guyrowland4711  8 років тому

      +Sellouth Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying. No portamento - dynamic modulation, not sure if you mean control via CC1 of dynamics (yes, or key velocity, you can choose either).

    Dear Guy, I know how much you love Symphobia how do these libraries stake up against each other???

    • @guyrowland4711
      @guyrowland4711  5 років тому

      Hi Zelly - I find I use the Symphobia series quite a bit more, but some of that could be habit to be honest. Ark 1 is great for full on trailer / action stuff though.

    You like this better than Albion One since this has voices, where Albion doesn't?

    • @guyrowland4711
      @guyrowland4711  5 років тому +1

      They're both very different tones. Ark is great for big and epic. Albion ONE is a much more refined, buttery sound. Different things for different cues really.

    How would you compare this to Albion One?

    • @Mrapg32
      @Mrapg32 8 років тому

      +Michael Hsiang Lee It's very subjective, and difficult to tell from a video, but from what I heard Albion One gets my voice. I didn't care for the string sound compared to Albion One. Again, it's hard to tell over a video plus the presenter didn't play anything what I would call musical making it harder to form an opinion. I haven't watched it yet, but I saw Daniel James did a review on Metropolis Ark 1. His videos are great because he composes a piece and typically plays the patches in a musical way.

      Thank you Aaron Garner. I just purchased it a few days ago and was able to get Metropolis Ark 1.I really love the powerful and rawness of the strings. I think all the instruments are very good.

      +Michael Hsiang Lee Gee, I'm so slow on these replies, sorry folks. They are very different beasts. Albion ONE strings are superb for buttery smooth (really excellent actually, I'm a little less keen on the other sections) while these have a lot more bite. ONE is for more subdued, thoughtful work, this is for blowing folks across a room.

    Hey, Thanks for another great review. Your approach and voice is just perfect for this. Just a little reprimand: Can you native speakers just put a tiny- whiny effort into pronouncing foreign words correctly? The ending '...stein' like in 'Wolfenstein' is pronounced very different to how you do it. And by the way: You refer to this as "Germanic". In this case you meant 'German'. Because the most widespread Germanic language is... tata - English. Don't want to be a wise-ass; it is just that the widespread disregard of native English speakers of the subtleties of other languages is sometimes somewhat annoying.

    • @guyrowland4711
      @guyrowland4711  8 років тому

      +HellOnToastbrot Hiya - yes, my pronunciation of English words is dubious to be honest, so anything non-English is liable to be particularly shocking! Apologies for the errors...
