- Batman: Arkham Origins has become a fan-favorite in recent years, gaining much of the praise it deserved from the start. That said, it certainly isn't perfect, by any means. Since Sins channels can never seem to get it right, I'm doing their job for them, and telling you everything ACTUALLY wrong with this game.

The issue with joker in origins wasn't that he was in it, it was the fact that he pushed roman aside. They could've done everything the same but instead of making roman a side mission, you could've had him keep more of his gang, try to take out joker, and have batman try to balance a city-wide gang war along with the assassins. If you're going to advertise black mask as a main villain, then make him one and keep it that way.
Nailed it. Arkham City literally proved that you didn't need the Joker as the main villain to make a good Batman story. (Yes, I think Hugo Strange is the primary villain of Arkham City over Joker)
@@TheChosenMoose01 agreed. To me, it always felt like strange was the main villain with the b plot and joker was right behind him in terms of villain status but he had the a plot. Most of what we do in the story is related to joker and his plan but in the bigger picture, ever action we take is perpetrated by strange. Ultimately he's pulling all the strings.
@bruhmanofyear2 I'd have to disagree. In the story, the main person you're trying to stop isn't Joker, it's Strange from starting Protocol 10.
Here's my pitch; have Black Mask haveva subordinate he has throughout the game that becomes Joker in a end credits scene

I’ve a few of my own ideas for the Black Mask rewrite, since it’s a very interesting take on the story.
Black Mask could have a primary motive to force the police and criminals (mainly Penguin) into a long lasting conflict so he can seize power in Gotham, taking full control of the city as he buys off the remaining segments of both ends. This’ll set Roman’s point of view to be one of power and control of others, something that darkly mirrors Batmans current methods of fear and pushing others away. Roman seeks to use people for his own gain, Bruce needs to learn that he needs to allow people to aid him for the benefit of everyone.
During the first Blackgate riot, the murder of Lobe and attempted killing of Warden Joseph initially seems to be instigated by the Penguin. This is the final straw to push the GCPD into war with The Penguin. Batman, however, will catch Roman leaving before you fight Croc.
The rest of the game continues as normal, I like the idea of Roman faking his death, framing Penguin to pressure him more. Roman will leave a hidden message for Batman to come to the bank, and I think we can fit a nice character beat in here. He stages an ambush at his bank because, before he springs the trap, he attempts to buy off Batman, believing everyone has a price. This obviously doesn’t work and we continue as normal.
I really like the heartbeat thing with Bane, so maybe we can rewrite it so Bane has rigged some of the cells to explode, with prisoners trapped inside, Loose Lips can be shown as one of them for the fun of him reappearing, potentially even other villains from side quests like hatter depending if you do them. This pressures Bruce into the whole ‘someone will die’ situation and lead to the scene with Gordon. But now he needs his aid to stop Roman.
The final change I’d make would be think final confrontation. Batman and Gordon actually take him down together, with Batman triggering Roman into a monologue that ‘everyone has a price’ and how ‘the entire city will work for me’ of which Gordon will record in secret for evidence, foiling Roman’s plan to start a war. He’s detained for good this time and curses out Gordon’s nature as a truly good cop, saying that he was the ‘only one who wouldn’t take the money.’ Gives Jim some good spotlight to lead into his closing monologue.
Nice. I was thinking that at the bank ambush with Deadshot, *this* could be the moment Roman Sionis' mask get burned into his face during the explosion, which would cause him to become much more unhinged and vengeful toward Batman for making him "lose face"...
The meeting with the mercenaries could be the establishing moment of Black Mask's insanity showing up when he murders Lester Buchinsky (that I am currently super happy with, having just received my issue of Nightwing #96
@bruhmanofyear2 - That's kinda the New52 Black Mask, when Roman Sionis was in Arkham Asylum, and Jeremiah kept borrowing his mask for "Joyrides" as Sionis put it, during the *Battle for the Cowl* storyline.
In that continuity, the mask had actual "mild" mind powers, it was compared to Jervis Tetch's technology a couple times.
There was even an event when Jervis Tetch and Roman Sionis went to war, Wonderland Gang vs False Face Society, it was a bit all over the place but as a Black Mask fanboy, I take what I can.
In that one, Roman Sionis and Jeremiah Arkham clearly are like a different person when they're wearing the mask...
Then we moved on to *"DC Rebirth"*
(and its follow up *"DC Universe"* , and the one we're currently into, *"DC Infinite Frontier"*),
in which Roman and his mask went back to not having powers, but being a ruthless crime lord, being the first Big Bad in *Red Hood and the Oultaws: Rebirth* and Catwoman's new arc, in which Black Mask allies himself with the Yakuzas.
I mean, the current Black Mask had powers for a while, when Apex Lex gave his technology so he could turn himself into anybody, but that special Mask was destroyed at the end of the 2020 Suicide Squad run
(the one in which he kills Deadshot).

The glitch portion is SO true! The only ever glitches I get with Knight are random crashes with the Batmobile, and that's it. I never have anything unless I'm trying to do a lot with the Batmobile and my entire game just breaks to the point of needing a console restart, and that's usually while leaving the GCPD. Origins, however, that game has so many glitches I'd end up having to restart my save file when doing some side quests, especially with Data Handlers and investigations. It sucks finishing a combat section, only for my endless presses of the Y button or the triangle button to do absolutely nothing to the last man standing. And then I'd have to restart my checkpoint to restart the entire combat section, or the entire side mission altogether.
Oh yeah, and the concussion detonator is surprisingly less useless than I initially thought. It still sucks, though!
I love arkham origins play it on my series x only issues I have with it is there are some major bugs that never got patched like the enemy ai is stupid sometimes and it randomly crashes which after looking it up is a problem across all platforms which they never fixed but I can forgive these flaws as I think it's a great superhero game it would be nice to have a remaster but don't think it will ever happen sadly ☹

@Lego Fan 74 I hit one guy so hard that I broke his own gravity. He's just unconscious floating in a falling position. Arkham Origins however constantly restarts

GREAT VIDEO! Two Things I would’ve put:
1) The fact that the game forces you to choose certain upgrades in order to get other upgrades that are unrelated is annoying.
2) Worst Nightmare Challenge….. without respawning thugs in indoor areas that can be used for each challenge.
i think the joker should have been a side mission where you find people that have dies from suffocation by laughing too much. eventually Batman find his base, it being an old toy shop and though out it we hear logs of what joker did and how many people died. Bats finds him but gets sprayed with original laughing gas but over comes it and that causes Joker to become obsessed with Batman as everyone else died.
That's actually a really good idea. It could possibly set up Joker in an Arkham Origins sequel.

I played this game for the first time on Christmas Eve so I was actually playing it when the game was set. Other than Croc being transparent, the only glitch I encountered was when I went to get the Extortion File from the back room of the My Alibi bar after defeating Bird. It didn't load the textures correctly so it was blank. And when I restarted, I was now permanently glitched through the floor and was just falling endlessly into the void, even after resetting. Fortunately, I found a solution. If you are stuck like this, do a challenge map and win so you gain XP. Then log back into where you are falling and wait until the game shows you earning the XP. Then reset again and the textures should load correctly this time. I was able to do this and successfully get the Extortion File without being permanently softlocked.
I think cool idea would be revealing Joker to be one of assassins, and in Grand Hotel he along with Bane would overthrow Black Mask. This would set up finale, how Joker became powerful mob boss and how Black Mask becamse so pathetic in this saga
I like the increased size of the map, but the new buildings and areas are less distinct and more bland than city imo.
I like to think that if Arkham origins came out today exactly as it is now (with the exception of graphics tuned to the standards of games today) it would have been received much more positively, it’s a good game that came out near the end of the golden age of gaming and people’s expectations were still too high especially coming out only two years after city, we were too spoiled back then to appreciate what we got
Literally never heard anyone refer to 2013 as near the "end of the golden age of gaming". Microtransactions, base game content getting artificially cut out to be sold as DLC, and other awful industry practices were already well and truly in full swing by 2013. Don't get me wrong, countless great games have come out since, but to call it the golden age is a bit ridiculous.

i personally don't have any issue with the bridge, but what does annoy me is the huge building to the left of shedon park that you can't climb or glide over and have to glide around to reach or leave the north west of gotham without a fast travel. this one annoys me more because it's just not necessary. why did they not allow us to just grapple to the top or something?
I wonder if Pioneer's Bridge was made so long for performance and loading demands. If I recall correctly, Origins was out right at the end of the 360 and PS3's cycle, so they would have been running into the technical limits of the console. The map may have been too large to have all close together.
Of course, you can't have loading screens ruining the immersion all the time. So whaddaya do? Put a giant gap between them.
There could have been other ways:
Thicker snow fall and fog would have been great. Use it to hide loading and missing objects/textures in the distance, a la Silent Hill 2.
Make the map smaller. Somewhat undoable since they "needed" to one up City, but this would have also kept in line with Batman's traversal capabilities in Asylum, by potentially removing the need for the grapnel accelerator.
Lock off sections of the map until certain times. This could have also served for having multiple days for the game events to play out, and would have been good for Arkham Knight.
Now, as you point out, they had a very limited time to make this game. They probably had orders from above about certain design philosophies (taking the grapnel accelerator away would have made traversal excruciating, but we can't shrink the map because we've made a story around it and we need to be bigger than the last game). And even if my ideas up there could work to help the performance, well, what if they didn't? It's a lot of effort compared to shoving them apart and having the bridge there, which had a moment to shine with Firefly.
I still don't like the bridge, either, though. I think it's like the opposite of the Batmobile in Knight.
Origins has the stupid bridge because they couldn't come up with other ideas, so they compensated as best they could.
Knight has the Batmobile (and other things) because Rocksteady said "yes" to too many ideas, so they had to pull things back later by draining the swimming pool to toddler level.
This video is 20 Minutes too Long Clownpuncher. The Only Sin relating to this game is the fact it hasn’t had a Remaster yet.
I feel like that scene with Donkey from Shrek 1, going 'oh me, pick me' because I played origins on ps3 without the internet so no updates at all and have never encountered a single bug or glitch while playing
Joker didn’t send the assassins after Batman because he was interested in him. I don’t think he really gave a shit about Batman until Batman saves him. That action made Joker question him and that in turn unraveled into the obsession.
I understand how people could get fed up with joker, but I’ve always considered the Arkham games to be as much jokers story as it is Batman’s, I’ve never minded his inclusion in this game and Knight
Speaking of the many glitches in this game I had a terrible one. During one of my playthroughs of I AM THE KNIGHT, I completed the Firefly boss fight but got a game over screen after the cut scene with Gordon played out. I had to restart again and it pissed me off so much.
I loved the boss fights (aside from Shiva which disappointed me) and really liked the new enemy types (Venom thugs and martial artists) but the art style just wasn’t as distinct & lively as that of city & asylum. I find this is somewhat true of Knight too, but in origins it makes the world feel pretty drab and samey. City had a jaw dropping amount of detail and managed to really make very distinct environments that stand out and are very memorable. I played plenty of origins but I actually can’t imagine any of the areas in it in detail, because they all kind of blended into one for me.
The fact the Wii U version of the game wast the most stable for weeks after launch is still the funniest thing about this series
i know this is small but I always appreciated how batman has a fighting pose in this game when combat is initiated, it just added a level of coolness when fighting

I do think that Joker would need to be established in some form, he's not just the most important villain in the Arkham series, but Batman in general. Regarding the Arkham series in particular though, it would be a bit of an odd timeskip to start playing with Origins since it happens first chronologically, not have the Joker appear at all, and then the next game (Asylum) features him as a prominent established villain.
I think there's two solutions to the conundrum that are far better than removing the Joker entirely. The first is to introduce Joker, but have him be a much lesser threat more on par with the assassins. He's a wild card thrown into the mix who wants Batman dead for his own reasons, or at least to be a pain in his side, but who doesn't work for Black Mask and so is much more unpredictable and could even be helpful or at least consequentially useful to Batman at some points, but Black Mask is still ultimately the main villain and the final obstacle to overcome. This would paint a narrative of Batman and Joker both still being in their early years, with neither of them being known as the hotshots they become later. It would make Joker in Asylum feel that much more special for having risen up the ranks on Batman's threat list.
The second solution is to still include Joker as the main villain, but not in the main story. In fact, remove Joker entirely from the main story aside from some hints here and there that point towards his existence. Then, have a DLC expansion that adds in Joker as the main villain of a post-game story. This way, he's not really involved in the main plot of the game, but still gets established as a character Batman is familiar with. This DLC campaign could work as a fast version of the same plot arc Joker has in the main game, just tweaked to make him more of a standalone thing instead of invading someone else's plot thread.
I think either one of these methods could have been a great way to include Joker while still keeping things generally refreshing in regards to him not hogging the spotlight. In any other game he'd absolutely have to be the main attraction, but this was a genuine opportunity to portray an earlier, somewhat less threatening version of him who's not as prominent as some of the other villains, and that I think is the biggest missed opportunity here.
I had 2 huge bugs in this game have me restart the game entirely and it was not fun. One I fell infinitely into a void and no restart helped. And another was the fight with executioner didn’t show up

You kind of forgot to talk about black mask side quest It sucks that black mask became a side quest after the steel mill. But I think black mask side question could still work but in a different way . Not having Batman fight black mask at the end like that

Dc Montreal needs a dlc focusing on Black Mask for Gotham Knights if they want to redeem themselves for removing him. This game is still good but I love Black Mask

Friendly reminder that there were only 4 years between City and Knight. Joker’s focus in Origins likely didn’t influence his ininclusion in Knight at all; we’d have heard about such a drastic development shift by now (nearly a decade after Knight) if Origins had caused it. That kind of shakeup wouldn’t have stayed quiet for this long.
Yeah, that's the only part of the video I didn't agree with since Knight was being developed at the same time as Origins, so I don't think Rocksteady's story would have been influenced that much.
They did however share elements of the crime scene analysis feature, which is really cool.
I agree it’s buggy and I encountered a VERY annoying bug in my I am the knight play through. My gadgets glitched and my disruptor and deathstroke gun somehow disappeared. I dunno can’t really believe it.
honestly, Black Mask was never a high calibur villain, so its quite logic that they didn't tried to push him for something more, instead they gave him a role of a good start twist to introduce Joker, which i think is quite good, considering that they didn't took that for long instead giving an intrigue before reveal almost immediately which makes story more interesting and dynamic, and after all, BM is too serious type of villain, half of the fun would lost if they would really try to make him a main villain, so thank god they didn't.
Joker should have been a side mission in Origins. A long one, but not the main story.
i hadd a glitch in cold cold heart where i couldnt grapple up towards where the penguin is with freeze. i tried basically everything including wall jumping but had to restart the dlc from the start lmao

1. There was definitely an edict from the publisher to forcibly include Joker in Origins. I love the clown too (what strange words).
2. It will have been rushed by the publisher to meet a deadline to keep shareholders happy and financial timings met.
3. I agree about Harley and Joker. Never liked the tapes in Asylum where she seems so easy for him to seduce. I much prefer the idea that Joker can instill madness in anyone and corrupt them.

I'm trying to replay Origins on my PS3, but everything I finish the Assassin introduction cutscene, the scree goes black and all I hear is the waterfall in the cave and I can't progress. And I love your entire story idea. I really don't like Joker so I love how grounded you made it sound, since Joker loves going over the top. Asylum is still my favorite game tho
I agree that the ClownPuncher cut with a heavier focus on Black Mask sounds like it would offer an engaging narrative, however, I think that Joker is necessary to have been included since, as you said, the entire Arkham franchise is about the relationship between the Batman and the Joker. I think that can be solved by adding onto your rendition of what the story could have been with side missions that can be completed at any time, with more being unlocked as the main story progresses in which Batman is uncovering some of the Joker's first victims, leading up to a minor confrontation in which the Joker is able to escape but leave a lasting impression on Bruce, thus leading into the events of Arkham Asylum (with the time jump, of course).
Wow even though I like the Joker in the original story your Black Mask pitch sounds awesome!
I’m not sure how hot of a take this is, but I really hated riddler in this one. I loved how his riddles filled out the ruined map of city, but it all felt so tacked on in this. Most riddles were really easy once you got the gear, enigma wasn’t as particularly motivating through his annoying comments, and the result motion was pretty unsatisfying. I’ve collected all riddler trophies in every game, and this one felt the lamest, just like something they threw in there. A few other minor issues I had: the entire character design of the game felt distinctly different, bulkier somehow. Batman was built tankier, even though this was earlier in his career. Also, when you save Alfred, I was under the assumption that I would go upstairs to the mansion for a bane boss fight, so it was kinda confusing that he had just left. The crime scene investigations felt way too linear, and not that interactive. a few other continuity issues that the designers made just to be able to use gadgets like the grapnel boost and glue charges when they don’t feel right with the timeline. finally, I was just really annoyed by a few characters, Barbara and Alfred mainly. I know they are earlier versions, but they still got on my nerves a bit too much. I respect that some people consider this peak Arkham, it just feels like sorta watered down city in terms of the playground of a map and environments. Absolutely no shade to the developers, I know this was their first game, it was just not for me.

I played Knight in 2022 on PC and Origins sometime between 2017-2020 (I forgot which year) on the PS3 and I don’t ever remember seeing a bug on either.
If you go to GCPD in the room called SWAT managers Office there is a door that leads to nowhere and their are more like it through out the game

I just realized this but was the grapnel boost a prototype in Arkham City? How would Batman have it in Arkham Origins?
Wow your story revision was great but it really showed me how "necessary" Joker is to the plot. Although the Arkham series is a mess tonally and thematically I think the main message it's trying to get across is the Joker escalates the violence of batman and the world he inhabits so the joker actually pushes batman to be a better vigilante in the end. (based off arkham knights ending I'm ignoring suicide squad) So the point of this game is basically showing the obsession of these two characters starting and the cycle of violence they will be trapped in for years even after the Jokers death. I don't know the Joker just not being a part of the story makes arkham origins seem shallow and pretty meaningless I think. We should have a main thematic thread between each game and I never get bothered when Joker shows up because he honestly makes sense for what the series is trying to say about Batman and Joker.
I disagree with the fast travel critic. You must earn each fast travel points, apart from the first two: it's a reward for accomplishing difficult tasks (the riddler towers). Thus, when you have all fast travel points unlocked ... you're already very advanced in the game, and it can have become tedious to travel for you already did the travel so many times.
The only bug I ever had with Arkham origins was the copperhead one but it happened every game lol

The thing I have wrong with origins is that it's a prequel. Why do we have the grapple boost when it was introduced as a "prototype" in city. And the disruptor, we get a version of it in city, and its much better in knight, but in asylum, we dont have it at all. If your making a prequel shouldn't you not have the new items that were introduced in the sequel? Still a good game though
I was dissapointed at the end of ww where its just another fight with a big grey villian. They're suppose to be better than us; though still have flaws. I wanted them to talk it out. To show that they were better than the petite human squabbling. Batman's rogue gallery all just aspects of him. We don't always need the extreme of the joker. We get it, their both psychopathic. Both Fries and Ivy represent Batman's willingness to save everyone and care about the individual. The mobsters; black mask, penguin, catwoman (when she started out) was Batman's greed. Scarecrow obviously how Batman uses fear etc. We don't need the joker for EVERYTHING

How did Batman have grapnel boost in origins when they said it was just a prototype in city?
People have theorized how it's possible, considering it's the Grapnel Accelerator, rather than the boost, so it's a different gadget. People believe that, due to Batman's bulkier suit in Origins, he could handle the G's the grapnel pushed on him. However, as he developed smaller, more mobile suits, he couldn't handle the G's, and thus had to abandon the project. Until down the line, Lucius began developing something new that would make it so the suit were irrelevant. It's obviously not perfect, but it's a simple explanation, and I like it.

The biggest problem with Arkham Origins is that all the boss fights sucked except for the Electrocutioner. Like, couldn't they at least make one that was as good as the Electrocutioner, was that too much to ask for?

What could be fun is either have the Red Hood gang working for Black Mask and they can set up Joker’s backstory or have that as a side mission so he is still in Origins but is not the main villain.
I've often thought about how cool it would be to have had a game set before arkham origins, or just a dlc campaign of sorts set before origins. Like we have batman, even earlier in his career, taking on black mask, the crime families, and even calander man, since that sets up the story of origins and gives us more backstory of Gotham. There could be a mission in that where you are stopping frequent robberies to find out it was the red hood gang you're after, where the ending could see us playing as batman witnessing the red hood becoming the joker in real time. Then, when we got to play origins, black mask already has a bone to pick with batman and the joker has been created. Would've been awesome to see how it could be pulled off.
That's a great idea! They'd have to be very careful about how they did it so make sure people didn't accuse them of just dropping in a tiny nod as a last minute thought, but it could have been so awesome!
I think a dlc could've worked better just so cutscenes and then it could be a little longer. Also having another dlc like cold cold heart would have been great

I always felt like it would be cool if the detective missions led up to Batman foiling a red hood heist at Ace Chemicals, which ends in him accidentally kicking the ringleader in a vat of chemicals.
Batman sets up a crime-scene near where the chemicals are disposed of near the ocean in search for the ringleader, but the body is missing… no other mention of the joker in the rest of the game.
This would have been really fucking cool.
The main sin of this game is that Arkham Origins doesn’t have a remaster.
After how badly Return to Arkham messed up the character models and atmosphere (just look at Batman's face and how much less mood lighting there is in every scene) it's honestly a relief that Origins didn't get butchered the same way Asylum and City were. A blessing in disguise if you will. Besides, Origins is still available on Steam and can run on most PCs so it's not like new fans can't play it.

@@HOTD108_you’re describing BRTA as if it’s this horrible unplayable nightmare even though that’s how I played the games first and I hardly noticed too many issues. Only City really has major stuff, (low quality textures, and models disappearing occasionally) but that’s pretty easy to get over.

I think Black Mask should have hired Joker, and after Batman took Black Mask down, Joker's like "OK, now we do it *my* way!"
What would be the benefit of that change? That STILL undermines Black Mask's credibility as the big bad guy and would give less build up to Joker, so it's a lose-lose scenario from both angles.

@@HOTD108_ As someone whose favourite Batman villain is Black Mask (for some reason.), I honestly don't see the issue in Joker undermining or surpassing him in the end... anything other than Joker having been impersonating him the whole time. You can still build up Joker, that's is something I wish they did more even though I don't care all that much for him. (For some reason.)
14:42 Regarding the Harley/Joker continuity, I have a potential fix for that. Their first meeting happened at Blackgate, and it of course was also her start down the road to becoming Harley. We also know that Harley and Harleen had some pretty intense internal identity struggles in the Arkhamverse thanks to her DLC in Knight. And probably most importantly, we do not know when exactly the Asylum interview tapes were recorded. To make things work, we're going to assume that her employment at Arkham, and thus those interview tapes, happened pretty early in the time between Origins and Asylum.
At this point, Harley did not have a criminal history. Joker could have had his goons take the fall for some of the early crimes she committed. And even in instances when it was known it was a female that committed a particular crime, that's not an issue either. In the sewers in Asylum, Joker makes a "generous offer" to punish one of his goons, by having their wife's knees broken. So for a crime that a goon wouldn't be able to take the fall for, Joker would frame one of the goon's female family members instead.
Harley would of course see this as Joker "protecting" her, but it would all be a part of his plan - to get Harley a job at Arkham as a psychiatrist, so she would have in-depth knowledge of the layout, security systems, and procedures. And at least for some time before getting caught working with Joker, she would be able to bring him any items he might need for his next scheme.
So the interview tapes in Asylum _would_ in fact be them roleplaying. As per Arkham Asylum not knowing that Harleen already met and interviewed Joker at Blackgate, that was a _very_ crazy night. Lots of things were destroyed, including any records of that initial interview.

Yeah same here dude, I just kept assuming it was going to come into play in a few boss fights down the line but it never did. It's pretty much just a coke can Batman throws at people.
I think the Dark Knight Challenges deserves a honorable mention or at least bring up the Worst Nightmare challenges.
The biggest problem with them is that you can’t complete them from respawning enemies in old predator encounters or even the challenge maps. Worst part about this is that you can’t get the Sonic Shock Batarang WHICH IS LITERALLY A STAR IN A PREDATOR CHALLENGE.
If Origins somehow gets a remaster, they really need to redesign the Dark Knight Challenges and make it possible to beat it
To be fair this is the game with the "I am the Night" Mode, which basically gives you unlimited access to NG+, so it's never truly impossible to complete these challenges on any save file since you can replay the story infinitely.
That said I do agree, those challenges suck, and they would need a serious overhaul for any remaster this game gets.

@@mockery_finn Yes actually you can complete the Dark Knight track in I Am The Night mode, and if you finish the game too soon again in that modeyou should be able to die to reset it. So it isn't truly permanently missable thanks to that but it's still ludicrous to essentially require partial to nearly full playthroughs to reach an actually viable predator section that you can actually complete the challenges

Honestly, those Dark Knight Challenges alone are Origins' BIGGEST flaws. If it weren't for them, I'd personally consider it the best game in the series.
Damn do i love how they introduced the joker in this game and i loved the game itself. Lets be honest who doesnt like free flow combat with gadgets and you are THE BATMAN. WB Montreal, great work.
There's also plenty of glitches where I can be hit without the hit animation occurring, bird gang fights just not appearing after the radio call for them, black gate prisoners not appearing, and black gate drug smuggling also not appearing

The biggest problem with Origins is absolutely the bugs. It was absolutely riddled with them on launch and to this day isn't in a great state. (albeit far better than launch) On my first play through when I was 80% of the way through the main storyline my save file was corrupted, which ended up killing the games reputation for me. I can handle lag, bad physics, and pop in, but I cannot forgive save file corruption.
I do absolutely love the multiplayer mode to death though.
Arkham Origins is my favorite in the series. But when you talked about how unfinished the game is, I flashed back to how in my copy, the data pack handler for data pack 12 (aka the bridge which is by far the most annoying) never spawned, even though the games map stated he had. I had to find every file manually which wasn’t that bad but it could’ve been way easier had the game been tested more thoroughly
Funny enough despite knowing how buggy Arkham origins can be I really haven’t experienced too many myself. I think that’s just dumb luck on my part, but the only thing I can think of that happened to me during my latest play through the game last week was the game crashed when I used the grapnel boost as the game was entering a save state. Of course that’s annoying but I couldn’t tell if that was because of the game or because the PlayStation 3 couldn’t handle it.
Again I’m not denying the games buggy I just think it’s funny that I really haven’t run into that many issues with the game.
Apart from that I did see the glitch where you can Bat-Claw enemies off the GCPD roof, however I don’t really count that since you have to actively choose to activate that glitch, as it’s not something you would normally do.
Agreed, I never really experienced anything big in any of the arkham games really, let alone origins, though I have heard that a lot of issues with origins were on Playstation for some reason. At most for me, the game has crashed and that's it.
I have 44 hours logged on Steam, beat the game three times and I just encountered my first glitch a few days ago while on my nth attempt at I Am the Night mode. it was that horrible "falling into the black void" glitch.
During that one part where you have to jump out of a window from an explosion in the hotel section, I misssed the grapple, but instead of dying, I landed on something, and the game registered that as me landing in the hotel, and the game saved. So I got softlocked. I couldn’t grapple back up, so I was stuck. And I didn’t feel like doing the whole game again
I never beat the game after that. At least I’ve beaten it before
While I do like what you pitched without Joker, I think it would be fun to just have him as an assassin. You could keep Black mask still in power, but also keep the royal the same by saying Sionis gave Joker some of his men. After that you could basically leave Joker out of the rest of the story and have everything else you said happen. Oh and Joker would be killing electricutioner just for fun(if you were wondering).
I would say Joker should have been one of the assassins hired by Black Mask that we later find out about. He is crazy so in the end when Bane is probably capturing us to present to Black Mask, Joker goes crazy and kills him for no reason other than he has taken an interest in Batman's moral code.
Now deciding he wanted to have his own fun with Batman, he decides to kill black mask and bane goes after the Joker for ruining his chances of getting paid. He throws joker off the building and Batman goes to save him, continuing the scene where batman did save joker in Origins.
Joker don't have crazy skills as other assasin's, so i don't think Black Mask would hire him.
But i think about if we got (maybe by DLC now) part of story as Joker, like after he becomed what he is - how he started to change, how he started to kill people and do other crime stuff and eventually decide to push off Black Mask
I think I am pretty conflicted on how I feel, because how they *did* explore the joker+batman origins was done incredibly well, but also the premise of a non-joker or pre-joker setting where batman has to deal with some of the more obscure or less-mainstream (or at least less so than the joker) crooks, that are still incredibly dangerous to require the plot, sounds equally pretty fun! They could've even done a whole Joker easter egg afterwards if it was pre-joker, like something referencing a comedy scene or the ace chemicals incident as redhood.
My Rankings of the games so far are.
1. Arkham Knight, had great gameplay, and a villain that was as good as Joker. A lot of people myself included really hated the Batmobile parts of the game but on my second playthrough years later I Love those parts now. Overall 9/10 with a medal of Best Gameplay of the series.
2. Arkham City, had great story, great boss fights, a killer ending, and great twists. I don't think anyone really disliked anything in this game, other then me that is, I hated the Catwoman sections, it's now like they were hard it's that they were boring. Overall 8/10 with the medal of Best Story of the series.
3. Arkham Origins, Origins had a good story, great boss fights, and great combat. One of the things I disliked most about Origins is that Joker was the main baddy the whole time, the Boss fights were amazing tho, best in the series hands down. Overall 8/10 with the medal of Best Boss fights of the series. (personal favorite boss is Death Stroke, he just to cool lol.)
4. Arkham Asylum, Asylum had a decent story, decent boss fights, and decent gameplay. The only saving Grace for Asylum is the attention to detail, they really went all out on building a great atmosphere, every villain was in this game whether you got to fight them or not. Overall 7/10 Still a solid game, Asylum earned the Medal of Atmosphere for not only the Arkham games but for every game I have ever played (and I have played a lot).
Sorry for the long ass comment but I do really like the Arkham games and I love talking about them.
My only additions would be the revamped upgrades forcing you to by armor instead of the ones you want. The other one is the stupid dark knight challenges some of witch if you don’t do them early enough you can’t do them all on that file potentially locking you out of upgrades. I have other personal gripes with the game but I’ll leave it there.
To think Origins would end up being seen as the ugly child in the series. I actually like it and is a shame it gets ignored
I liked the fact that Joker was in origins because it was the birth of the relationship between him and Batman, but I do agree with the fact that it pushes the main plot aside at the same time. Maybe they should’ve kept Black Mask as the villain and left Joker absent then made a sequel about Joker
Maybe I’m just insanely lucky. But I can’t recall a single glitch from Arkham Origins. I can’t speak for the other versions. But the Wii U version runs great. Too bad we never got Cold Cold Heart on it
I sincerely believe that the Batman+Joker scenes we got in origins are the best in the series, I absolutely adore Joker's animations and energy in this game. The shock Joker feels after being saved by batman, and his descriptions of Batman to Harleen is unmatched and my favorite sequence of events in the entire Arkham franchise. The origin story of Batman is incomplete without sowing the seeds between Batman and Joker's relationship.
I agree that Black Mask was kinda shoved to the sideline, he really should have had more presence in the story with the marketing around him, but I absolutely would not sacrifice free falling joker to grant that wish.
As much as I admit that Arkham Origins isnt the best in the series, by god is it my favourite. I only have two major gripes with the game, with those being the traversal across old Gotham before you unlock all the fast travel points (feeling like it took 50 years at times), and the glitches which sometimes ruin amazing moments. An example for me being when i was on the final stage of Firefly's fight and i was on my no-hit run when all of a sudden my full health was decimated from one of his grenades, randomly causing firefly to not spawn in when i reloaded the checkpoint
Other than thise 2 issues, i adore this game. The boss fights are absolutely incredible with the best consitency of quality fights in the series, the story was actually amazing with the best version of Bane in any Batman media (in my opinion), and with how little time WB Montreal had to make the game, they smashed it out of the park. So much so I thought Rocksteady made it when i first played it. And the scenes with Alfred were some of the best in the series, definetly the best in terms of pure emotion. I also didnt mind the Black Mask twist with him being Joker, in fact i thought it was amazing as it furthered showed how intelligent and dangerous Joker could be
Ill admit, City is definetly the better game; with more polish and attention given to it, but Origins is my favourite simply down to the fights, gameplay and atmosphere. Not to mention the cool af animations and sequences you can pull off against the martial artists.
(P.S, Cold Cold Heart is the best DLC in the series, and maybe in gaming period; or at least up there)
Personally I do count Origins as a retcon not because I don't love the story but there are things that don't really fit. As a smaller but annoying one:
It's a Riddler Challenge to take a photo of Commissioner Gordon's parking spot in City. A station we go back to multiple times but in Origins that station doesn't exist. Instead of Krank Toys & the old GCPD we have the docks with the GCPD already being located across the river in an old rundown skyscraper that they've apparently been using for decades. They didn't just reuse & revitalize the map, they restructured entirely
gordon was still a cop when batman was a kid, that's a long time frame for whenever they moved to a new police station
Thoughts on the version of the grappnel accelerator being pretty much the same as the Grappnel boost from City, when that was a brand new prototype?
City's prototype was for a sleeker, not-as-armored Batman, whose newer suits couldn't take the G's, and the final version came with the v7 Batsuit from Knight, which *_could_* take the G's.

Honestly with some more tweaks to the story, they could’ve done both of these stories. It would result in a slightly longer game, but that’s better than just shoving Black Mask to the side completely
Honestly, I think Joker could have worked better in Origins as not the main villain, at least not how he was, rather he takes over as an assassin after electrocutioner fails so quickly. Then have Joker as the secret extra assassin that comes in at the end after black mask is taken down. Maybe even show Joker take over after sionis is in jail. That could explain why Joker has so many followers out of the gate. Perhaps have Joker and Bane fight it out to see who controls Gotham, with batman being forced to conceded that Joker can leave and continue on as a crime boss when bane attacks Wayne manor, probably when he finally had Joker in his grip. Then at the very end, have some kind of symbolic thing to show how batman and Joker are both important for each other, perhaps have Joker use his influence to help batman take down the final boss battle of Bane

I think it would be good to still have the joker, but he could be opposing black mask and or he could show up after the other
assassins have failed and take his shot at batman. He could still be at blackgate, still take over the hotel, but black mask is against him and black mask still controls the assassins and wants batman dead while joker wants to toy with batman. That way you keep that story line that was advertised while also having the joker.
