    We purchased a 2016 Platinum and we LOVE it. It doesn't have the smoothest ride under some road conditions but on others it's VERY smooth. It has good power under the hood. It could be a bit more in my opinion but for the most part it's it has plenty of power. It's is full of safety features and GREAT road grip for plenty of weather conditions. I do wished ours had Sync 3 like the 2017. It has plenty of room. I'm comparing the over all performance and comfort with the 2016 BMW X5. We took that on a long road trip through 3 states and loved it. But for the price, features and performance it's very hard to beat the Explorer Platinum.

      Miguel Fair same here ,we also own a 2016 platinum model and at around 2k milles we took a trip from Texas to Florida and it was a awesome ride experience,we just pass the 10k mark and no diference from first day we drive it out of dealer

    I was tossed between this platinum and the Lexus gx 460
    After the second test drive I learned that the v6 twin turbo was much more fun to drive... and... HANDS DOWN- the options included and 60k warranty had me sold! We bought ours Sunday
    I love this car/SUV! Grey/ white intererior.... and my kids are all adults- so this luxury SUV is not no soccer momma mobile 😜

    We are trying to decide between a Limited, Sport or Platinum. After a couple of brief test drives and watching many YT reviews I have a few questions remaining...
    1. Does the Platinum model have the same suspension as the Sport?
    2. Are the paddle shifters operative only in Sport mode? Is sport mode on the round dial (as video suggests) or is it the "S" on the shift lever?
    3. Is there a cover for the front moon roof?
    4. Do the 2nd row bucket seats have armrests at the centre of the vehicle?
    5. Will it apply emergency braking for cross traffic or a pedestrian? (What option is required for this?)

    Amazing video. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I am considering the 2017 Explorer Platinum and the 2017 Honda Pilot Elite (which has not been released yet). I am more focused on the Explorer but one of my biggest concerns is the premium fuel that is recommended and the difference between regular and premium is about $.60. I am going to be putting tons of city miles on it and that expense could add up significantly. How much performance would I be sacrificing if I use regular?

    • @AutoVlogOfficial
      @AutoVlogOfficial  7 років тому

      Thank you! Glad I could help.
      Neither of the Ecoboost engines require premium fuel but yes.. it is recommended for optimal performance. I don't know how much horsepower you would "loose" on regular vs premium. On my Fusion it's said that the engine has 240HP with premium and 231 with regular.. I can't say I notice much difference when Im driving with regular vs premium on either the power or fuel economy

    They use the gramps style radio and 12 big buttons for climate control and small screen for the entertainment and the instead of cd player they use iPads and put an iPads on the back of the head rest. Also remove the third row and add a third only as an option and make the second row recline and put a minni fridge in the back and popup table treys like in air planes and the Land Rover then it would be worth luxury prices.

  • @Scotty_in_Ohio
    @Scotty_in_Ohio 8 років тому +1

    So for roughly $4k less you can get a loaded out Flex and have tons more 2nd row leg room. I get why people choose the Explorer over the Flex but for those who are "married" to the idea of having a SUV and could "settle" for a Crossover there's tons of luxury and savings to be had with the Flex. We've had an '09 SE and a '15 SEL and likely going to go for a '16 Limited with Appearance package. Honestly, you can actually get into the MK-T (Lincoln version) for a couple grand cheaper still.
    Great video and it's for sure a nice SUV!

    • @AutoVlogOfficial

    • @Scotty_in_Ohio
      @Scotty_in_Ohio 8 років тому

      It's not totally my style but for a "people mover" it rocks and the wife likes larger cars... I used to have a '15 Mustang GT and now drive a '16 Edge Sport. I looked at the Fusion Sport but just wasn't feelin it for a lot of the same reasons you pointed out. You really seem to know your Ford products - again great videos!

    • @Scotty_in_Ohio
      @Scotty_in_Ohio 8 років тому

      The wife opt'd for the Explorer Platinum today. While there was several thousands difference in price between the Flex the luxury for her was worth it. The only option we didn't get was the 2nd row console which I may add later for about $270. I built a Limited out on-line and there wasn't that much difference in price when fully optioned and I would have had to order it since most don't come equipped that well.

      I know this is four years too late for you, but for others who are curious, I checked the owners manual. It says:
      "Your vehicle is designed to operate on regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87.
      "Some fuel stations, particularly those in high altitude areas, offer fuels posted as regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating below 87. We do not recommend these fuels.
      "For best overall vehicle and engine performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended. The performance gained by using premium fuel is most noticeable in hot weather as well as other conditions, for example when towing a trailer."

    Hello. I love your channel. I have a question i'd like you to answer to if you can. I was planning to buy a 2017 Ford Explorer Platinum, but I noticed Ford didn't add the option of Sync Connect to it. I was wanting to ask if you know if Ford will later provide an option to add that Cellular Modem to upgrade the Current Sync 3 vehicles and enable Sync Connect or if Ford is going to add it to the 2018 model year Explorer? Sync Connect is something that I am really interested in and it sure is a bummer that they only offered it on the Escape and Fusion. Oh it would also be great if Ford also added Adaptive Steering to the 2018 Explorer. If you also know anything about the possibility of them adding it that would be real cool. Thanks.

    If you had to choose between an MDX, Explorer, X5, and q5, which vehicle would you purchase. I'm considering buying the Platinum. But something keeps telling me that I can get one of its foreign rivals for a similar price.

    • @michaellopour7409
      @michaellopour7409 5 років тому

      What makes the Explorer stand out among that group is engine power - only the X5 comes close. SQ5 does as well (although I think X5 is hard to get with a third row, Q5/SQ5 are two row only). The extra power is fun but really only needed to make towing easier, especially up mountains and at altitude. MDX will be more reliable. Q5 is light fun easy to drive and good fuel economy. X5 will give you anything/everything you could want but for more than an Audi and way more than a Ford. Just depends what is important to you they are all vehicles with individually strong attributes. Explorer Platinum checks more boxes than most for less $$ than most.

I know that in our car which has a smart key, but not push button, if you put your foot on the brake, it turns off the engine. Does it do that in a ford vehicle? Do you have to turn off the remote start, and then turn on the vehicle in order to use it?

    Are these explorers still giving people headaches, nausea, and other symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning?

    • @michaellopour7409
      @michaellopour7409 5 років тому

      No - exhaust was updated for 2018-19 model year, I don't believe there have been any CO reports in those years. Definitely be careful buying used, especially low miles - I saw a few bought back by dealers for exhaust issues.

    Why the hell is the gas tank filler on the passenger side? I will never buy any vehicle that has that. It should ALWAYS be on the driver side!

    • @nuknuknuk111
      @nuknuknuk111 7 років тому +6

      Brock Wardlaw look at it this way if you have passengers you can rely on them to pump the gas since they will be closer lol

    • @boriquais
      @boriquais 7 років тому +8

      I think that has to do with safety. If you run out of gas and pull over to the shoulder. I would much rather put the gas can in on the passenger side.

      Brock Wardlaw if you were to look at the gas gauge there will be a little arrow that tells you where your gas tank is

      BAMA GRAD I guess I'm just used to it. I did have a right hand drive car when was stationed in the U.K that had the fuel door on the driver side but otherwise all my other vehicles have had passenger side fuel doors.

    Too expensive but very nice. When your spending 50k might as well get a top Mercedes model that's maybe 4 years old and its gonna have a much nicer finish even if its 4 years older and well its a mercedes.

      Iit ain't $50K. It's $55K, but with discounts more like $48K. This is how domestic autos are priced and sold. A 4 year old Merc is a maintenance and repair nightmare, which is why they're so cheap at that age. And the Merc 3 row is an old heavy design (GLS) that is slower and less comfortable.

      darnell rogers We just bought a 2017 Explorer and it had an interior leak within 100 miles on the odometer, 20 of which we didn't put ourselves. It's been at the dealer for a week and they can't find the source of the leak. True story.
