I was 3rd leg in this race for Henderson. We put everything we had into this race!!! And if you look closely, I put us in the lead for the win. I split 48.2 and went on to big things after this race. These young runners need to take heed. We were serious, and we got it done. Training in the hail, sleet or snow. We always had practice. But coming out if a small school in Pa, it shows you can beat the best!!!! Just believe!!! Ill never forget this race as long as I live.... I was a junior.

Ryan, I ran the 3rd leg for HD Woodson in DC. You guys ran a great race for sure! it had to be the race of your lives because we beat you guys by a hundred meters the week before at the 'Father Judge Relays'.

Great win by WC Henderson... last team from the Philadelphia/Suburban area to win the COA was West Phila High in 1983 anchored by Alan Laws 46.4 split 3:12.97!

steven miller There is something terribly wrong with that race which lead to the final outcome. This has nothing to do with the athletes, only the officials who made a total blunder from lane assignments to the lack of a staggered start.

Sean Garrity lack of staggered start? How familiar are you with racing at Penn Relays?

Ron Hatter ran second leg. He was the biggest surprise. He never broke 50 seconds prior to this race. Not even in the trial qualifying heat were we shattered the competition over 50 yards.

Hey whats up fellas. We did loose to woodson by a hundred yards the week brfor, but keep in mine are anchor leg chad black didnt run. He was hurt. Secondly alot of people dont know that chad black our anchor for henderson, had the flue over 102 degrees the night before. Even in tge trials he felt week. If he was 100 percent, it wouldnt have been so close. This is steve talking. We were ready that year. We ran 3:18 the first meet of the season.

As we all know. Jamaica dominates this race year in and year out, for the most part. So the commentator didnt show us any recognition towards our win. Little do they know. They tokd us we one before we took our victory lap.

That was a very unfair race...look at it again and you should see something so erroneous not even your coaches and officials caught it...That race should have been Calabar-KC-Henderson..my take after analyzing the race.

I was at this, my first Penn Relay! My first encounter with a rowdy, pro-Jamaican crowd, who got silent when KC failed to hit the wire first....!

You do know there was a serious flaw which contributed to the result of the race.

What made you say the crowd was rowdy. What happened in the crowd. What was the rowdy thing they did?

@@konstantyne340 I meant that, in a good way! They were loud and boisterous for their Jamaican squads.

@Konstantyne Oh, I was also there when Bolt returned, in 2010. Loud and boisterous wasn't even the word, for that one. That had an Elvis is in the building atmosphere....!

@@thescatman5029 I hear you. 🤜🏾 I was there too. At both meets. I see you posted your initial comment 5 years ago. I only saw it today and made my comment. I guess by now you must have come to realize that Jamaicans are passionate about this sport and culturally Jamaicans are very expressive. What you might interpret as 'loud' or 'boisterous' is standard when it comes to T&F in Jamaica.
I'm going to invite you to do a quick UA-cam search for Inter Secondary Schools Association (ISSA) BOYS AND GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS'. In any one of the videos you will get a reflection of the passionate expressions of the T&F loving crowd. In fact I leaving here 3 links. When you have the time you can view them. The first is of the final event on the final day of ISSA CHAMPS 2012 when the leading teams were separated by only 1 point. After 5 days of competition it came down to the last event the last day. In the second link you will see part of the closing ceremony for ISSA CHAMPS 2018. In the third one you will see the response of the crowd in one of the public square in Jamaica on the day Jamaica won the gold silver and bronze at the 2012 Olympics in London. If you think Penn Relays was loud, I wonder what will be your thoughts after viewing these links. Please view, then let's hear your thoughts.

Second leg looked like Ronald Hatter. And yes Steve young runners today don't have it in them to train and run that hard.
