Oh how I laughed when your thumbnail popped up! 😂 Cobalt Violet is just THE WORST! It has the potential to be such a gorgeous colour but it's just completely impossible to use and it's so frustrating and heartbreaking and rage-inducing....yeah all of those things. I was mad for you, just watching you struggle with them, lol. I will say that M.Graham's version is the only one in my collection that seems to actually work. Sennelier has the right idea using a hue, because that one is super pretty and easy to use. I admire your tenacity, and you did really well - I like the little sailboat with the outlines! Thanks for making a whole video of this super annoying pigment! 😂😄

I guess when you use viridian and you're expecting phthalo green or you use lapis and you're expecting ultramarine blue - you're bound to be disappointed 🤣

I was going to call that the M. Graham and Sennelier would work fine, since they both use a honey formula, but then she tested the M. Graham it was exactly like I thought.

Thank you for suffering so that we won't have to! I will try to remember not to buy cobalt violet...

  • @glorioskiola

Cobalt pigments lift easily so they hard to layer. That’s the point. I have the Winsor Newton one, and I love it.

Cobalt violet is not meant to be used in the way that you’re using it it is only supposed to be used by itself surrounded by other colours. It’s a very special bright colour that you cannot reproduce by any other means you cannot create cobalt violet from the primary colours for instance. John, use this and you can tell exactly where

I bought one tube of cobalt violet from DS. It is a three in one colour: First, Only and Last. :D Not ever again, and it is no critique of the brand, I do not want to try it from any other brands. Not my pigment... So I totally feel your pain with this. I hope you have more fun with the next. I wonder if anyone love this pigment??? It is not cheap, so I am wondering why anyone would buy more than one tube of it?

The paintings were well-made. Pity the paints were as wishy washy as very cheap paints from 1$ shops! Poor Miranda. Becky on her last video was not happy with that same colour from Rembrandt. Have a great weekend painting with more vibrant colours.

It's a shame, I think the colour is cheerful and fun.

This time i have an excuse for being here so early. Been up since 6 with sick kitty. Love making chicken & rice that early in the morning. Definitely not trying Cobalt Violet. 😄

  • @LeesChannel

Cobalt Violet is a great way to judge watercolor brands, because it is a very weak, yet very expensive pigment. Cheaper brands, like the Da Vinci here (which had an especially poor showing,) will skimp out on pigment loads for expensive pigments to cut costs.

Wow, for a difficult pigment you did a great job! I think that is because you are a good artist. My favorite was the M Graham painting. I think lapis lazuli is a difficult pigment too.

I was intrigued by the title of the video and then I laughed when you said you didn’t like any of your paintings. Opps. I couldn’t help myself. I liked them. ☺️

Oh, man... how frustrating that must've been. 😵‍💫 On the upside, your pain = entertaining/helpful content for us. 😄 Thanks for doing the hard work as we reap the benefits!

I remember the Indigo painting video was one of the first ones I ever watched from you! That feels so long ago now, so I'm happy to see yet another round of this series, even if there's pain. I've always found Cobalt Violet to be a fun mixer but pretty horrid as a workhorse. It's certainly something that needs help with everything else around it. The M. Graham painting of the flower was probably its best showing here. Thanks for trying to make something out of such a finicky pigment like that. It was still interesting despite it all. Haha
