The politicians think electricity comes directly from the wall outlet. Free, unlimited power, no environmental impact. Clean, quiet electric power that magically comes out of wires.
Nikolai Tesla wanted electricity to be free, similar to the way radio waves exist.

Imagine a truck stop with 40-50 semis all hooked up to chargers overnight. Now imagine the power requirements that truck stop must have to accommodate them. It is not feasible at this time.
It would also make deliveries take longer

Trump tends to allow the states to decide so state elections matter a great deal.

My husband was a truck mechanic and I worked in a truck stop. Some of the guys are kind of rude and crude. But most of the drivers are decent people trying to earn a living. That's all there is to it. They need a little more respect on the road by these idiot drivers that cut them off and zigzag in front of everyone and cut off everyone. Then they blame the trucks. When in actuality the fault is a lot of times the car that cut them off.

My husband's company had purchased and electric truck. On its first delivery to San Diego, it could not offload the product, there was not enough power in the battery.
Not only did it fail the delivery. It had to be towed back to Los Angeles 😂 with a diesel powered mega tow truck!
And this cost the company a whole bunch of money, loss of faith from the customer, loss of income for the day, and they of course still paid the driver for his time.
Electric power truck is a complete idiocracy.
I'd have lost 'some' faith in the company as soon as heard it bought an electric truck.

@@highpeacetess "Isn't the truck significantly heavier than usual" No. A regular diesel semi has a weight capacity of 80,000 lb. An EV semi is allowed 2,000 lb more. Not really significant. The load capacity is only 4,000 lb less in the EV semi.
I live in the U.P. of Michigan. A nearby school district got grant money for an EV school bus. They claim that it works okay during the warmer months but not so good during the winter - especially on rural routes.Unfortunatelly, the majority of the school year takes place during the colder months. It gets colder than hell here in da Yoop in the winters!!

As a retired ex truck driver, 33+ years, this is so laughable, it’s really not funny anymore.
It stopped being humorous a long time ago and it just keeps getting worse. I got my CDL about 50 years ago and thankfully retired about five years ago. I still carry the license but don't miss the frustration and B/S rules that keep getting worse. One big jump into stupidity was the edict demanding use of "Exhaust Fluid" and it's just gotten worse every time you turn around. I couldn't, in good conscience, suggest a trucking career to any young friends with this future lurking in front of us.
Regardless of your favorite political fantasy, only one choice has any chance of getting this business back on the road (no pun really intended!) and unfortunately, that's not just limited to our trucking/shipping future.

The guest was not exaggerating when he said truckers could die if they get stopped in winter weather for days in an electric truck. Diesel fuel means life in the northern states and Canada. Some politicians need to spend a few nights in a truck at -20F with the wind blowing at 20 mph to know what I mean. In those conditions, an electric truck wouldn't even charge enough to keep the cabin livable.

I am a retired diesel technician. The big question is: Where does the energy come from? You have to have a source of energy big enough to supply the demand. It does not exist.
Only source of electricity available to us that could supply that sort of demand would be nuclear, and there's no way the Dems would suddenly flip on that issue.
