    Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

    Does the bamboo allow for casting as far as you need it to? I am a newbie and I get that graphite is lighter and has more 'power' but I've been interesting in 'glass and I have a nice 3 WT glass that I just love how it feels. It probably doesn't cast as far especially with me.

    • @FlyFishDan
      @FlyFishDan  2 роки тому +1

      Bamboo are definitely not designed for distance - but I was easily casting 40-60 feet. They feel a bit heavy...but once a fish is hooked, bending all the way to the cork! TON of fun to fish with!

    In Georgia we can’t have two rods with us…

    • @FlyFishDan

      Well that's a bummer...the O'Pros also makes for a good station to park your rod when making a fly change.

      I thought this law meant you can only have one line in the water on designated trout streams… not that you can’t have a couple of rods that you rotate…

    Dan, you encourage me to tie on more streamers (something I normally only fish when I "have to" 🙄). I approach holes very similar to what you showed (I do or or two small dries, then a larger dry with dropper, then two nymphs before giving up). Freestone rivers don't always have the food supply that a dam controlled river does and normally they either bite or they don't when food comes along. It could be that last / your streamer presentation just triggers a reflexive strike or who-knows-what; it's trout after all... How long is that 3wt. you use to throw those streamers? Another great video, Dan. You are a lucky / blessed man. ☮

    The title of this video was catching fish on small streams. I don't know what kind of medication this guy is on but I think he ought to have it checked if this is a small stream he hasn't been to Griffith's area in Wisconsin.

    Awesome! I love my Opros holster but I guess I do too much bushwacking when fishing waters in my area, it's always hard to maneuver around the overgrowth with a second rod. Looks nice and clear where you are here though!

      It's a great accessory for sure - even if it's just to have a secure place to put your rod when retying a fly or tangle. Now they lock - love that!

    Not a Cottonwood, it would be much larger around at that height. A week ago we heard those cracking sounds at a campground during a thunder storm. It knocked down hundreds of trees across the county in northern Iowa. Dan, have you fished the driftless area of Iowa/Wisconsin/Minnesota?

    Love your content and super helpful tips. I've noticed you find great success with a sculpzilla pattern. I was wondering what size you typically use on mountain streams, and if you're using a full sinking line. Thanks for any feedback and I look forward to your next video!

    • @FlyFishDan
      @FlyFishDan  Рік тому +1

      I do have a ton of success with that fly. I use typically their largest size and the one down from that (can't remember the exact number associated with the size). I rarely use a sink tip - just lengthen the leader a bit if I need to get down. Hope that helps!

    • @FlyFishDan

      For the standard fly tying - I use an improved clinch. For leader to tippet - I use the double surgeon. For big streamers, I use the easier version of the duncan loop.
