Dude, you rock! I don't even own one of these cute little samplers, but, love what you've done with it. The SP-404 MKII could do with a battery mod like this.
great mod! be aware when running of battery and then putting a usb cable into the jack, it will get 5v on the usb lines.... so it might kill your host...or am i wrong?
Correct. The USB B connector power pin should be disconnected from the circuit board and connected directly to the input of the charger board. Just remove the back of the USB B connector cover and cut the USB power pin on the component side and solder the charger board input wire to it. One caution though, the pin is delicate and breaks easily. I broke mine and had the replace the connector. This way the Blackbox can be used with either the USB or battery or both while charging. I did this mod and it works perfectly and using it this way, you only need an on/off switch. I taped my battery to the bottom plate to keep it away from the Blackbox components. Kudos to the author of this mod.
@@juliustoth1172 Thanks for sharing. And the switch goes between the battery out on the charging board, and the power pin pad on the board, (that you cut earlier, from USB socket) Great explanation. Will do this when I get my BB.
badass, and I strongly recommend cleaning off all of that solder flux residues on the PCB, 80-99% isopropyl alcohol and fresh cotton swabs gets the job done I'll likely do this to my Micromonsta2.
This is excellent work ! It's funny tho', I did the same mod to a Speak n' Spell back in 2002 with a 6v NiMh Nokia phone battery ! Can I suggest that you enclose the battery in a hard thin plastic sheath tho' ? Because if the battery comes loose inside and the sharp component pins pierce or rub thru the airtight tape layer, it will become a Lithium Ion fireball.
Thanks very much for this well explained upgrade. I have a used BB on the way, so will give this a try. Did you experience any noise, when USB is plugged in, charging? Best wishes for your continued success with music 🎶🌎☮
now it become the most portable standalone sampler in the world

BEAUTIFUL!! I think Aaron from 1010music would like to get ahold of you! This is an awesome job man!
This was so cool to see. Thanks for sharing! I wish they had just put a battery inside to begin with.
You could repurpose an old Toslink cable mounted on tiny holes on the case to better see the LEDs without having to peep into the case.
Nice Mod!! Especially for such a tight box.

@@juliustoth1172 Maybe you could do a little UA-cam tutorial for others to see how this is done too?? Thanks.

This video is so wild

Wow that is so cool! good job and thanks for sharing
beautiful!!!!! thank you for sharing this!!! grat mod
This is too cool. My big complaint with this cool little gadget.
EDIT: I did it and it’s a damned joy. Still powers accessories. Next up…BlueBox
EDIT 2: Works with Bluebox nicely too. Actually more room for

I love this idea, but does the battery get hot in there? Could heat cause problems if the battery is sort of snug against everything?
Maybe it's possible to mount it flush against the other side of the case with a heat conductor in between if it's a concern.
Hello. You botton is a on off on 3 pin or on off 3 pin ? Tks for you answer.
link to parts doesnt work ..
i'm totally gonna do this mod. do you think a battery measuring 100 x 70 x 4 mm. will fit?
That's massive overkill on size/capacity !
Are you talking about an Android tablet battery ?
Very cool!
Rad! Bout to do my blackbox and tracker. What would I need to make this work for a maschine +?
let me know where you find the space to fit the battery in the tracker - i just picked one up!
+1
Sick
I’d love to do that on mine!
very cool
Do you take orders?
Kick ass.
So wish it was like this from the factory… really missing the mark…
Utterly ridiculous at that price point. So many "portable" grooveboxes don't come with a battery, it's silly. At least put in a damn AAA compartment.
this is tits! I'm doing this to everything I own. even my shoes!
