To bad to roll up and see a "Package" of your own bees hanging in a tree. I experienced that many times coming home from a day on construction site just to see it was not over yet. Always wishing I was able to reach and catch that swarm from earlier in the day. I would have equipment ready and sometimes my lovely wife would shake them into those single deep boxes if they were low enough. Nice egg laying queens that remind me of getting about a dozen and a half early one year from Hawaii thru a bigger commercial beekeeper mentor of mine. Black long boat abdomens they were. Will continue to look in on your progress as the season progresses this year. Thanks Brian. 🐝
Great video Brian!! Hope you season is going well, my Nucs are growing strong right now. They should fill the 10 frame box in the next couple of weeks. 😁👍🐝 Have a great day Brian :)
Looking good Brian. Yep some cells slip by. Good luck on your splits I'm done splits. I have 2/3rd of my supers on. Flow is on here. Tonight might slow it up. 35 and frost advisor.
Time for the swarm reacher. Get frame of brood comb and zip tie a QMP noodle on top of the frame. Doca poles extended up 20feet. The QMP will pull that swarm to the frame if noodle is fresh. Caught multiple swarms this year fom my own hives.
This one was like 40 feet up. And, it only stayed in that spot about 20 minutes, then flew off. If it was lower, I might have messed with it, but it was to high.
I was helping a guy I am mentoring that caught a swarm yesterday. We were installing the swarm in a hive box. By the time we got done his son came and said there were bees in the other swarm trap on the other side of the barn. Sure enough there were! Neither came from any of his hives. LOL Good day !!!
@@CastleHives There is someone up the road from him that lives out of town but there are 10 hives there. I think that is where they are coming from. I said keep putting the traps back up and if he doesn't have the equipment to hive them, I will! LOL
The resource hive is, in a sense, 2 four frame colonies right now. Not until you add supers above do you need an excluder. The 10 frame box has a board down the middle and boxes above are separate.
This one was like 40 feet up. No way I could reach it. I had a 15 foot downspout and tried hitting it, was nowhere close. The ground was saturated also, so a ladder was out of the question.
I'm in Ne ohio & I did my splits on April 7th & today the 22nd I already see virgin queens in all my splits...glad I split them because they were already out of control on the 7th.
where did you get the hive condition marker on the front of the plastic hive??? at 5:02 in the video
That is the Queen Right Dial. Go to queenrightdial.com and you can buy them. I am one of the creators.

It was probably 2 packages in the tree, large swarm. Sucks you know. But, it happens. Appreciate you watching.
Great video Brian. 👍🏻
Thank you. . Congrats on your views. .

Thank you, Grayson.
Enjoyed the video Brian!! I've caught a couple of my own swarms this year and watched one fly away over the trees. Take care!!
Thanks Keith. . Sucks watching them fly you know.
Looking good Brian. I missed a bunch down here unfortunately, but I wasn't looking that hard like I should've been....
Thanks Mike. I should put a trap or three out, but I really do not enjoy messing with swarms.

I'll split in the next week and then add supers after. This cold will slow them up, that's for sure. Thanks for watching.

😁Brian, you have bees in your tree.
Heh, yeah. They flew off probably after like 20 minutes also.
Ha good video where are u geting your queens from
Nature's Image Farm this year.
Better get up that tree LOL
I'd be in a neck brace. Lol
@@CastleHives hahaha
Great info Brian.
Thanks much Mike. .
What’s that nub on your hive tool used for?
It is a small hammer. You would not believe the number of times I've used it.
@@CastleHives wow that’s interesting
I would use that all the time. You don’t know how many times I’m banging away with my hive tool
@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog That hive tool is my all around go to hive tool. So many uses. There is a queen excluder cleaner on it also.

That's not a bad deal, get a two-fer. .

Looked like you put two queens in resource hive without an excluder ??

great video Brian!!! you ever chop a queens head off with the marking cage?? ;)
Thanks Stan. . Luckily, I have not. I have heard of people that have done that though.
@@CastleHives i have a few times....sometimes closing that lid she takes a run and whack!!! :)
Who makes that hove tool that you have?
I got one at Blue Sky Bee Supply and the other from Amazon.

Are you going to graft any queens Brian?
Most likely not this year. I need to focus on getting my routine down with SBCM and then i'll try my hand at grafting.
I just did 10 splits this weekend takes me to 18 now…. Great video
Nice. . You'll be busy Chris.
I'm guessing bottom box is divided??
The resource hive is divided by a board in the bottom and seperate boxes up top. If you look in the video, you can see how it is made up.
@@CastleHives Messing with you :) Great video
@@circletfarm7805 LOL. . . Thanks. .
With the warm winter we had in Wisconsin my bees are bursting with bees and hardly a good day for them to fly, feeding syrup so they don't starve.
This weather is crazy. We have frost warnings tonight. It's going to warm though, so splits will take place very soon.
Same here in NJ. Had to feed them all last week. Starting to warm up.
Brian, Fred suggest swarm reacher.

Yeah. I think I'm behind. I know I have 5 colonies, well 4 now, that will need split.
