We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.

We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our UA-cam channel.
On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
#NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

Your videos are a great help. Im currently researching everything i can prior to starting my beekeeping business. I'm combining books , corses and UA-cam. Your videos are the best ive found to date . Thank you 😊 🐝
It may never ever stop raining in SW Scotland. If it ever gets to 15°C I will celebrate by finally going in.
I cannot wait for some milder weather. The winter is too long!
Took your advise from a previous video and doubled by brood area by placing a box under the brood box as I’m still feeding fondant. I’m across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh where it’s been rather chilly and temps not looking great but bees out flying the last two days with pollen coming back into the hive.
Found your videos very informative over the last couple of years, thank you ☺️
Thank you. I am glad you are finding the videos useful :)
Thanks Laurence. Must say that I am looking forward to getting my colonies open in early April, I think it's a bit warmer down here than where you are. Just need the rain to lay off a bit! Two of my nucs a bit light so have given them fondant so will keep close eye on weight.
Hope you manage to get them all through ok this year :)
Thanks Lawrence, I've only opened the top so far to see how the food situation looks, just topped up some in their Ashforth feeders, but havent opened any brood boxes yet, plenty of flyers in each hive when the weather is nice. I'll inspect in April
Good to hear. Definitely for the best. I am not inspecting any of mine yet. Just hefting and lots of feeding
Generally, in Upstate NY, it's early April when temps are over 60°F. However, last week we had several days in high 60's so had a chance to take a peek.
went in my hives yesterday not for a full inspection, just to give them a Varromed treatment, glad i did because the garden hive which had one of your Buckfast queens put in last year is crammed, heaving, bursting, got two more at my new out apiary with Buckfast queens from BMH and they're not far off from being the same, by the time it's warm enough to do a full inspection here in south wales they're all gonna need splitting or double brood ect.
I’m looking forward to getting into the hive in April. I’m in Central Scotland so def won’t be in early. My bees weren’t the most pleasurable to work with last year - quite aggressive actually. I wonder if they will be better this year? If not I may well be requeening. Never done that before but long for quieter bees.
I have an agressive hive too, but I'm not going to requeen as it's the strongest hive out of all.
Gentle bees makes the hobby so much more pleasurable. Hope you manage to sort them out
Hi Laurence thanks for the help hopefully getting my bees in April if the weathers good but in Devon only seam we will get wind and rain.
Thanks for a very informative video. When do you normally change from fondant to syrup.
Both are fine to use now :)
Can't wait to get into the spring season. Love the empire smoker!!
Handmade copper smoker from Thornes
Me too! Thanks Alex. Cool isn't it 😎
great video, very informative 👍🏻
On the edge here near the south coast. It's set to be 14-15 degrees today and tomorrow, and I want to assess stores - yes, I can heft - but I also want to reverse the nadired supers. Too early?
Just the video I needed 👍
Still to cold hear at loch lomand just topped all up with fondant taking in plenty tree pollen when warm enough to get out 🏴
Here in Orkney we tend not to go into the bees until the beginning of May. We're all twitching before then. I've had a quick look at how much fondant I've got left. Up here we find our bees will fly when the temperature is about 6C. The wind is the biggest factor in if they're flying or not 😉
@@paultrickett7717 Sounds daft, but I didn't realise people kept bees on Orkney because of the wind. My family is from Orkney originally but I've only visited there once myself. Do you get a decent amount of honey there?
@Linear500 . . Depends . . Some years we're just lucky to get our bees through the year. The season is very short, ranging from about the end of May until the end of August. We're very fortunate to be Varroa free. Beekeepers who move up here are instructed not to bring any bees with them.
We may seem to have warm daytime temperatures but there's too many cold nights yet for me to start messing. Some people seem to be in too much of a rush to super. Personally I'm more concerned with getting them through the next few weeks or so rather than rush for honey. The prediction is that we will be on the cold side of the jet after some mild days
100% agree. We are weeks away from supers at the moment in our apiaries
Hi Laurence.
I did and inspection on my 4 colonies yesterday and one of them was already producing drones! Would you say these are likely to swarm early?
Is it just a few drones or is it lots of drones. Sounds like it may be a DLQ?
Just a few, there was plenty of brood in all stages and lots of workers@@BlackMountainHoney
Can someone link the video on adding a 2nd brood box under the main brood box. Thanks.
Nice looking smoker
Thanks Robert :)
Thanks Laurence. By the way where did you get the smoker
