Mars!!! Wow, glad that you had an opportunity to add content to the Rolling Realms game! Congratulation for expanding your involvement in the board game industry!
My favourite is definitely the next station series. Love it, it is easy to table. Easy to explain. Easy to play but still gives great choices and the map of the netro at the end always gives a satisfying feeling to look at
Great list! Played 14 of those - very good games! I highly recommend Aquamarine and Voyages. I think you'd love them! They're print and play, but I laminated them and put them in a box ;) I also like Trails of Tucana a lot (can't really explain why I like that one, but somehow it became my most played game ever). Also: Riverside! Oh and before I forget: Mars.
Flip town is easily my favorite verb and verb. Rolling realms is fun and has a great BGG community that's also still putting out great expansions. Congrats on getting Mars published!
Another line on the resume -- Rolling Realms Terraforming Mars expansion pack designer. Next you'll probably tell us that you also play medieval lute music!
I own and love five of your Top 10 (all 4 Clevers, Cartographers, Fleet, Three Sisters and Railroad Ink: Blue Edition), and have at least two others on my wish list (On Tour and Welcome to the Moon). I also have and really like Next Station: London. However, two of my favorite verb&verbs were not mentioned by you. One of them is Kokoro: Avenue of the Kodama, a very easy to learn but challenging game with lots of replayability due to several variant modules included in the box - if you know Avenue, Kokoro is practically the same game (slightly bigger board) plus these variants, and it comes with good quality eraseable boards and pens. The second game is Trails of Tucana, which has a mechanism for player asymmetry built into it and those fun cascade effects you get in some of the other games. There is a third game you didn’t mention and, although it is not one of my favorite games, I still like it: Silver and Gold. I finally have to mention a favorite game of mine that is not usually included in this genre, but which I consider being one: it’s the flip&place The Guild of Merchant Explorers. It seems a stretch, since that game is quite big for a v&v, and some people are turned off by placing pieces on the board instead of drawing being quite fiddly and unstable, but it is a lot of fun and pretty thematic, compared to other v&v’s.
Terraforming Mars is still one of my favorite games and the heaviest game my wife will regularly play and enjoy. Coincidentally, I am reading a book about astronomy and have just read the section about the first Mars missions.
Great list - many I have been intrigued to look into. I thoroughly enjoy Rolling Realms- and now we can roll to Mars - exciting. I was stoked to hear about your design a few weeks ago. Congrats to you.
That's really neat that you made the Terraforming Mars promo pack, I love the quick easy play of Rolling Realms, something I can play even without having much bandwidth after a long day.
Have you tried Joan of Arc: Orleans Draw & Write? I really enjoy it but it doesn't give a predominantly draw & write feel, so I don't usually include it in that category. It basically uses that mechanism to shrink Orleans to a smaller, faster game. (Mars)
Mars. I am a LOVER of Roll and writes. I have or have played or own all these games. Three sisters, I think, are my favorite with Hadrians Wall as my second.
Very cool that you designed the Terraforming Mars pack! Also agree with your number 1, the clever series is wonderful (I think twice as clever is my favorite)
Some of my tops. Encore/Noch Mal, Qwixx, Cartographers, On Tour, Three Sisters, roll to the top, welcome to, CoB dice, Medicici dice, Bloxx, Second Chance, Splitter
Oh my gosh, I laminated sheets so have always used colored wet erase markers for cartographers. And I have always still drawn the shape. You just made me realize I didn't have to draw anything I have the color 😂🤦♀️
Mars -sively impressed that you have a promo design to your name :) I have designed a few Fan Made Realms myself and love the variety that RR provides.
I didn't even know there was a Fleet dice game. I played the original a couple of times back in the day. Last weekend I finally got a chance to play Blueprints Of Mad King Ludvig, and that was an interesting variant. Like your view on Isle Of Cats, the people at my table liked the removal of bidding for rooms. Also, the challenge of fitting rooms in a limited space, while balancing the "powers" for completing a room is interesting.
My rolling realms has had an insane amount of use and I've been eyeing those packs on the publisher's website for a while. Awesome to learn the Terraforming Mars one was designed by you. Will add it to the priority list :D
Within realm of things I really enjoy are all the eating Mars (candy bars) while playing all my favorite Roll-n-writes that was recommended by yourself and Prof Meg. 😉
I played more than 20 roll/flip and write and I love the genre, but I only kept 9 on my collection and I love most of them. Even number 9 (That's Pretty Clever) is a game that I enjoy a lot, which speaks to how much I like the other games on my list: 1 - Hadrian's Wall 2 - Marabunta 3 - Cartographers 4 - Fliptown 5 - Welcome to (the original) 6 - Super Mega Lucky Box 7 - Railroad Ink Challenge: Lush Green Edition 8 - Long Shot the Dice Game 9 - That's Pretty Clever!
I really need to get a copy of Railroad Ink back. I sold off my Blue because I was cycling my collection pretty early in my journey and felt like I had a lot of roll and writes; I did (and sort of still do), but I just loved how the RR ink's dice system works. Cartographers is currently my number 1, but I'm not tabling it as much anymore; once I got the collector's edition with all the maps and card packs, I just became less inclined to play it... It hard to walk the line of "I love this so much, I want more of it," and actually getting too much of it. Hadrian's Wall was neat, seeing all the interplay between each of the areas, but at the end of the day, I felt like I was running a spreadsheet and abacus, constantly acquiring workers, exchanging them of other workers, or using them to buy locations. Wood pieces in, wood pieces out.
Hadiran's Wall is one of my favorites. Haven't played it enough to get tired of it yet. I'm excited about the new Rolling Realms Redux coming up. Will have to get a few other packs like Terraforming Mars. On Tour is a family favorite and has yet to fall flat with anyone. Got the Paris and New York version but still have not gotten it to the table. Still prefer regular Isle of Cats over the Explore and Draw but will likely keep both. Finally got Three Sisters a few months ago and absolutely loved it. Played two games back to back the first time I got it to the table because it was so much fun. My youngest loves Cartographers but we don't play it as much anymore. Picked up Welcome to the Moon at your referral and have enjoyed my time with it.
Riverside, DI: Rawr'n'Write, and Rolling Realms are my top 3! Haven't jumped in on any RR packs yet, the new ones look great, always up for more Dice Throne and Mars
Mars! Thanks for the great videos and giveaways as always. Love the channel! I'm surprised that there are no Super Skill Pinball versions on the list. I find those to be a great deal of fun and have some good mechanics. Also Dinosaur Island Rawr N Write, which really hits all the great notes of the Dinosaur World game but much more streamlined and variable.
Wow the first list where I own every game but the #1 and even that I use to own. The app is just easier for the scoring section. I do have to say Roll to the Top is higher for me as it is just so fun and easy to play. I find Roll and Writes to be a great game to get new people to sit down and join you in a game when I am at my FLGS having fun with friends. Quick, lighter rules and just usually so fun! That is so amazing you did the Mars Rolling Realms! Those are the only 3 expansions for that I don't own!
Of the ones I've played these are great selections and makes me want to try the few I haven't played (like Three Sisters). One you didn't mention is Dinosaur Island: Rawr and Write. It's definitely on the more complex side for roll and writes, but has a lot going for it. Thanks!
Mars... now that would be a cool implementation of On Tour! Love that game, my first KS, but doesn't get tabled. 😢 Also really like Fleet, Three Sisters, Railroad Ink (Blue, but also doesn't get tabled), Welcome To (original) and the That's Pretty Clever series (currently Clever 4ever is our favourite).
How the heck did I not know there were promo packs for Rolling Realms?! HOW?! My husband and I play that game all the time. We love Eminent Domain and Terraforming Mars!
Alex, what’s your thoughts on Tiny Towns? I know some people may not consider it in same genre, and it’s certainly unique, but it still has the “Something happens, and everyone has to do a thing but choose where/how to do that thing”. Especially if you play variant with the cards, and certainly the solo mode is a flip and write. I adore tiny towns and it hits many of the criteria you mentioned: 1. High variability 2. Quick to play It’s also highly modular in that you can play mean, you can play more solitaire, etc
Mars- Cartographers is most definitely on my Christ lands list, on tour has long been on my radar as well and cements my need (not want for it). My guilty pleasure roll and write is likely Qwinto- I’ve played it too many times.
a lot of good roll and write, sadly i have almost all of them already... I do like silver and gold and also super mega lucky box as light end of night game too. Congrats on designing terraforming mars extension for rolling realms!
Terraforming Mars is a great game! In my top 10 of all time games for me. Looking forward to Prelude 2 and the extras stuff this year. Anyone like the BGA version over the digital version?
My high school baseball coach once told the local newspaper “we have five seniors returning this year from last year’s team and our starting pitcher returning from Mars”. I was that pitcher
I love roll and write games. I would like to get into so many of these more. This was a great list! Have you checked out Dice Cards? These are going on my list of games that I want to check out. Great video! Mars!
I have not had the chance to play Terraforming Mars. (We bought Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition instead and, it has turned out to be one of my favorite games.) Rolling Realms has been on my wish list for a while.
Roll and writes! 😍I noticed Cascadia rolling series didn't make the cut (maybe since it hasn't hit retail yet? 🤔) Personally, I've been really enjoying Mind Space from All Play, it doesn't reinvent the wheel but does what I want and doesn't overstay it's welcome
I’ve really been over the Mars about roll and write games since I discovered board games as a hobby starting way back with terraforming moon…wait reverse those two.
Dinosaur Island Rawr and write is another one that does things better than the original (or so I’ve heard)! Maybe if it were set on Mars, it’d be even better!
Hi Alex, that is so cool that your demo pack of Terraforming Mars has been turned into an actual expansion! Congratulations! I would love to try it out 😋 I also love your list; there are many games on it that I own too. And I’m planning to add My City R&W to my collection soon.! 😁 I have to say I’m surprised Dinosaur Island Rawr & Write is not on it. I think that game is my nr. 1 of all the Roll & Writes I own. It just has so much replay ability and I love that you’re playing against an actual AI instead of a BYOS. (I almost always play solo). Have you tried this one?
Clearly we now need Welcome to Mars, with 100 boards ;) I'm not surprised it didn't make the list given that you had a not great initial experience, but did you ever end up giving Rawr 'n Write another go? Given your other picks, it seems like something that would be very much in your wheelhouse. Everything feeds into everything else and you can build a pretty powerful engine that gets not quite everything done. Security/threat math is definitely super critical though. It's less approachable than Welcome to the Moon as more complex X and Writes go, but it's pretty teachable.
So nice to hear you have designed the Terraforming Mars promo pack. Have you thought of creating your own game recently? (I know you didn't have time to do so a few years back and I assume things haven't changed, but thought I might ask anyway)
Hi Alex, thanks for the video! Ive been really waiting on this one since I dont have any in my collection and was thinking of picking one up. I am definitely thinking Fleet or 3 Sisters. Are the combos in 3 sisters hard to keep track of? Are they different enough that they are both worth owning?
Great list once again! If you keep recommending so many good games my pile of games will eventually tower up to Mars. 😂
Mars!!! Wow, glad that you had an opportunity to add content to the Rolling Realms game! Congratulation for expanding your involvement in the board game industry!
My favourite is definitely the next station series. Love it, it is easy to table. Easy to explain. Easy to play but still gives great choices and the map of the netro at the end always gives a satisfying feeling to look at
Congratulations on your contribution with Terra Mars to the Rolling Realm universe, very apt. I've also been enjoying Pioneer Rails.
Thanks!
Great list! Played 14 of those - very good games! I highly recommend Aquamarine and Voyages. I think you'd love them! They're print and play, but I laminated them and put them in a box ;) I also like Trails of Tucana a lot (can't really explain why I like that one, but somehow it became my most played game ever). Agree on Toucana, it’s great! One of my favourites

I've driven through Mars (PA), ate Mars (candy bars), played on Mars (board games), but I haven't written on Mars yet. :)
Thank you for my birthday gift. I have been anxiously waiting for this video. And you posted it on my birthday.(Mars)
Thanks for introducing me to so many new games. Your channel is out of this world. You must even have subscribers from Mars.
That's really neat that you made the Terraforming Mars promo pack, I love the quick easy play of Rolling Realms, something I can play even without having much bandwidth after a long day.
I'm so glad we are finally getting to watch this video. You've been teasing it forever now.... Lol... There are some great games about Mars.

Super cool that you designed the Terraforming Mars pack for Rolling Realms! Now I need to get my hands on a copy so I can play it.
Rolling Realms is definitely my favourite roll and write. Excited to used the Mars realm in the upcoming Redux version!
Really neat that you got to design the realm for Mars! I am keen to try it out, love the Rolling Realms series!
I love rolling realms! Excited about the terraforming MARS promo pack! Dice throne looks awesome also!
Very cool that you designed the Terraforming Mars pack! Also agree with your number 1, the clever series is wonderful (I think twice as clever is my favorite)

Mars … my fave from your list is Cartographers. We bought a bunch of colored pencil packs for family play!
I would love to move to a terraformed mars. I love roll and writes. Congrats on the design.

Always have been interested in rolling realms, but haven't had a chance to play. Thanks for the great video! (Mars)

Mars is a very aggressive God. Nice to hear you are having fun designing Promo packs.
Mars... loved them all but not sold on number one... Isle of Cats and Rolling Realms my current favs..
I love rolls and writes! I hope they make a terraforming mars roll and write
Mars!!! Those are all great games, but I would rank the ones with a thematic overlay the best. Thanks for sharing your list!
The only roll and write I have played are Voyages, La Granja : No Fiesta! , Qwixx and Castle of Burgundy the Dice Game. Mars is still a planet .
La Granja No Siesta !!
@@mar45mar45 Siesta of course
Mars is a planet I always wanted to visit. I will wait for it to be terraformed though.
I want to get all the Rolling Realms expansions, but they would pile up to Mars.
Terraforming Mars is currently in my cart online, so I just might have to pull the trigger finally to see why it’s so popular!
My favorite is cartographers and Isle of Cats 2nd. Although, the Terraforming Mars pack sounds good.
We love Mars Chocolate! Thanks for your videos Alex!
Rollings Realms! so excited for these new promo packs, including Mars :)

I must have been living on MARS because i have not played many of these Roll and Writes
Mars... now that would be a cool implementation of On Tour! Love that game, my first KS, but doesn't get tabled. 😢 Also really like Fleet, Three Sisters, Railroad Ink (Blue, but also doesn't get tabled), Welcome To (original) and the That's Pretty Clever series (currently Clever 4ever is our favourite).
Total Recall is a great film (with some of it) set on Mars and involves Terraforming.
Terraforming Mars is a very good game. I didn't know you designed those packs, that's awesome!
Mars - congrats on getting you module created and published
Rolling Realms is great! Curious about trying the other cards now, including Terraforming Mars.
Great list. A few of these are on my wish list for some time - including Welcome to the Mars... I mean moon ;)
One of my favorite candy bars is the Dark Chocolate Mars Bar.
Picked up Rolling Realms recently, so would be great to get the Terraforming Mars pack!
How the heck did I not know there were promo packs for Rolling Realms?! HOW?! My husband and I play that game all the time. We love Eminent Domain and Terraforming Mars!

Qwinto is great, very easy and very charming.
a lot of good roll and write, sadly i have almost all of them already...
I'll be playing Terraforming Mars this weekend!
I'm looking forward to picking up the terraforming mars expansion if I don't get it here! It's one of our higher played verb and verb games
Mars!
Speaking of Mars! I am patiently awaiting Prelude 2 plus maps for Terraforming Mars! 😁 wouldn’t it be cool to one day be able to explored Mars?
Mars! Great video...I love roll and writes.
Love the list! More realms for Rolling Realms is great ... so Mars
I have not had the chance to play Terraforming Mars. (We bought Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition instead and, it has turned out to be one of my favorite games.) Rolling Realms has been on my wish list for a while.
Love rolling realms and just finished the beyond the realm verse campaign l! Would love to add terraforming mars to the collection
Mars, oh Mars, where art thou Mars?
Roll and writes! 😍I noticed Cascadia rolling series didn't make the cut (maybe since it hasn't hit retail yet? 🤔) Personally, I've been really enjoying Mind Space from All Play, it doesn't reinvent the wheel but does what I want and doesn't overstay it's welcome
I’ve really been over the Mars about roll and write games since I discovered board games as a hobby starting way back with terraforming moon…wait reverse those two.
Mars
I actually would like the Eminate Domain but was instructed to say Mars
A terraforming mars roll and write would be interesting.
Welcome to the Moon is my favorite of these, slightly ahead of Cartographers. Maybe I prefer flip and writes!
Mars
Supercool about Terraforming Mars! Congrats!
So cool your Terraforming Mars design got made. I’m curious what your Blood Rage design was like…?
Reach for the stars, but set your sights on Mars!
Dinosaur Island Rawr and write is another one that does things better than the original (or so I’ve heard)! Maybe if it were set on Mars, it’d be even better!
I like Mars but I can't see why everyone is so excited about chocolate bars
Me too!
Going to mars while eating mars bars for fuel will rot your teeth :)
Mars- My fave is welcome to
Rolling Realms is great, more reason to try the Terraforming Mars pack!
Hi Alex, that is so cool that your demo pack of Terraforming Mars has been turned into an actual expansion! Congratulations! I would love to try it out 😋
I also love your list; there are many games on it that I own too. And I’m planning to add My City R&W to my collection soon.! 😁
I have to say I’m surprised Dinosaur Island Rawr & Write is not on it. I think that game is my nr. 1 of all the Roll & Writes I own. It just has so much replay ability and I love that you’re playing against an actual AI instead of a BYOS. (I almost always play solo).
Have you tried this one?
Mars. Mars never changes.
The Milky Way Bar in America is known as the MARS bar elsewhere in the world. Are there many chocolate themed roll and writes out there?
Clearly we now need Welcome to Mars, with 100 boards ;)
I'm not surprised it didn't make the list given that you had a not great initial experience, but did you ever end up giving Rawr 'n Write another go?
Given your other picks, it seems like something that would be very much in your wheelhouse. Everything feeds into everything else and you can build a pretty powerful engine that gets not quite everything done. Security/threat math is definitely super critical though.
It's less approachable than Welcome to the Moon as more complex X and Writes go, but it's pretty teachable.
If you were alone on Mars which of these would be your favorite solo?
Mars. Also, check out Postmark Games. Aquamarine is a favorite of mine.
I need to get Terraforming Mars to the table!
It's amazing :)
I would love to go to Mars. Sounds nice and quiet. I would also like to play Rolling Realms Terraforming Mars. That is all. Hope I win :)
Mars. I just bought the game and it would be a good addition to the game
