My top 10 would have 5-6 Uwe games in it lol. I don’t entirely agree with Tom’s assessment that many of his games don’t feel fresh or creative in regard to the worker placement system. Agricola innovated worker placement a good deal with the resource accumulation spaces (love when that’s in games), revealing new spaces each round, the feeding vs. growing aspect, having personal cards that improve or otherwise interact with action spaces, etc. There’s still nothing else quite like it in my opinion. Hallertau’s worker placement was pretty interesting with the spots costing more workers the more they have been used by the players, meaning the return on value for spots constantly changed throughout the game. Fields of Arle has a unique system for a 2p worker placement game with two seasons and once each round one player can jump a season but it means going 2nd the following round. And having a worker placement spot for enhancing the power of some of the other spots if you invest in it. Haven’t gotten Black Forest to the table yet but the system in there looks interesting, with the tension of deciding between paying to travel vs. accepting a closer spot and also every action is essentially combining two worker spots so you’re having to puzzle out not which one spot to go to but which two adjacent spots are the best for your current needs. And of course AFFO’s grid-like system in which each column costs an additional worker that may also provide an additional benefit for spending said worker, getting workers back if you “fail” an action, Norwegians adding another column which relatively strong actions but your turn is done when you take em, etc. Maybe not revolutionary but still feels distinct and fresh imo. That said, definitely agree y’all picked some good ones. Surprised not to see even more Garphill!
My top 10: 1. A Feast for Odin 2. Dune Imperium 3. Architects of the West Kingdom 4. Lord of Waterdeep 5. Targi 6. Lost Ruins of Arnak 7. Whistle Mountain 8. Hallertau 9. Dwellings of Eldervale 10. Champions of Midgard
My picks: 10.) Viticulture w/ Tuscany and Visitors from the Rhine Valley 9.) My Father’s Work 8.) A Feast for Odin w/ The Norwegians 7.) Five Tribes 6.) Dominant Species 5.) Caylus 1303 4.) Bus 3.) Argent: the Consortium 2.) Agricola 1.) Little Town
I just love these guys, that's why I always come back to the Dice Tower. They make it all so nice. With Mike being there less I'm really happy Joey is present. I love Roy, Camilla, Wendy, Chris and all the others too. This channel got me into board gaming as a hobby and I'm so grateful. It was the video with Trey Parker that showed up on my social media feed and the board games they showed got me really excited to try them.
It's not my favorite worker placement, that spot is and always will be reserved for Champions of Midgard, but I agree with you. Apiary is pretty awesome. And you can even bump your own worker on purpose to boost it faster! One funny anecdote is that I've played this game three times and come in 2nd place all three times. And the owner of the game has won all three times. I definitely want to try again, especially with the new expansion.
Great video ! Worker placement is clearly one of my favourite genre. 1. Dune Imperium + extensions 2. Barrage 3. Lorenzo Il magnifico 4. Caylus 5. The Manhattan Project Energy empire 6. Agricola 7. Paladins of the west kingdom 8. Tzolkin 9. Lost Ruines of Arnak + leaders 10. Terramara
Love that Tom put Architects of the West Kingdom on the list, because it has such fun and interative worker placement. We love joking about rounding up other players rabble, and it's one of the few take-that worker placement games I can think of.
I think Worker Placement is still my favorite mechanic. I am going to have to leave this page up so I can get a good sleep and finish it over the weekend!
My top 10 WP games: 10. Stone Age 9. Beyond the Sun 8. Keyflower 7. Apiary 6. Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar 5. Lost Ruins of Arnak 4. Caverna /w Forgotten Folks 3. Everdell: Complete Edition 2. Dominant Species 1. A Feast for Odin /w Norwegians
I like that Tom put Charterstone on the list, because it does have interesting worker placement that's very interactive. I'd love to see a Charterstone 2 or a non-legacy Charterstone.
What about Keyper? I really like the choice about whether or not to follow/join a player when they choose an action and that makes it stronger (you get more actions/resources).
My Top Ten 10 - Stone Age 9 - Architects of the West Kingdom 8 - Barbarians : The Invasion 7 - The Godfather 6 - Tzolk'in : The Mayan Calendar 5 - Rajas of the Ganges 4 - Railroad Revolution 3 - Raiders of the North Sea 2 - Paladins of the West Kingdom 1 - Lords of Hellas Honorable mention - Hawaii (Just for Tom)
Thank you very much to all three of you for this! You three are great trio, very entertaining and great chemistry. Hope you continue doing videos like this. Thank you! Keep up the great work.
Great video! And good choices of games for your tops 10. I’m surprised that Raiders of the North Sea was not on Mike’s list. Here is my top 10: 1) Andromeda’s Edge 2) Fields of Arle 3) On Mars 4) Federations 5) Dune Imperium 6) Anachrony 7) Architects of the West Kingdom 8) Viticulture 9) Bus 10) Targi
31:00 - so Tom take some comfort in knowing that none of that was really a spoiler because the rulebook from the beginning shows all the workers that will eventually join the game and the board is populated entirely by spaces to be filled in with stickers to become new locations
I don't know what my top 10 would be, but I know my number one for sure would-be Darwin's Journey. I am shocked this didn't make anyone's list (may have made Chris's list if he were to make one) or really get mentioned in the comments. I mean the game is almost in the top 100 of all games ever on BGG (I feel it is only a matter of time before it cracks into the top 100)! That aside, this was a fun video, and I enjoyed the ribbing at Tom's expense.
Speaking of top Uwe games, can you do a top 10 “feed your people” games? Some people really dislike this mechanism but it makes for high tension. Is there even that many games with feed your people?
There are so many great games in this category. Reading through the comments, I'd agree with giving a shoutout to Everdell and Apiary, which were not mentioned in the video. But my personal favorite WP game will always be Champions of Midgard. I just love loading up my ship with food and warrior dice to go travel across the sea to fight that red Eldjotnarr with 5 coins on it, only to accidentally encounter the Kraken and have all my plans hanging in the balance of an unexpected dice roll. But as every who has played knows, the Valhalla expansion, which is absolutely necessary, takes care of super unlucky dice rolling....for the most part. And there's a new 10th Anniversary Edition coming out! With a solo mode! (I just hope they can do something like the most recent expansion for Lost Ruins of Arnak and make some sort of co-op campaign that utilizes the solo mode.)
Mine: 1. Dune Imperium 2. Paladins of the West Kingdom (though that’s barely a worker placement game with the lack of a shared board other the than the King’s Favour cards) 3. Beyond the Sun 4. Champions of Midgard 5. Raiders of the North Sea 6. Lords of Waterdeep 7. Whistle Mountain 8. Lost Ruins of Arnak 9. Architects of the West Kingdom 10. Caylus 1303
@ I would class it as worker placement. You have to decide how best to use your limited supply of servant meeple, who can be used to refresh supplies, look after guests, find rumours and man events. I would class it as definitely having aspects of worker placement
Once I saw the topic of this Top 10 I thought to myself 3 games that really utilize workers in uniques ways. Only 2 of them were mentioned: Endless Winter and Unconscious Mind. The last one that was SADLY NOT mentioned actually not only REVOLVES around worker placement but also allows you to educate each individual worker to become asymmetrical within the game making each uniquely more powerful! That game is Darwin’s Journey! An AMAZING game! Very disappointed for sure!
Tom Jolly is a very versatile designer. Remember, he also designed the brilliant Battle for Rokugan. I would have included a Simone Luciani and Uwe Rosenburg game or two.
Neat list gentlemen. Thanks! But Zee, c'mon, is Santiago actually worker placement? Really great game, but it's a rondel you move your car around (and around...). Not worker placement. But it's big brother Cuba, now that's worker placement. Also, a few honourable mentions for me would be Anachrony, A Feast for Odin, Anno 1800, Caylus 1303, Fields of Arle, and Raiders of Scythia.
My Top 10 Worker Placement Games are: Architects of the West Kingdom (w/ both expansions and at least 4 players) Kanban: Driver's Edition (I've not played EV) Lorenzo il Magnifico Lost Ruins of Arnak Orléans Paladins of the West Kingdom Rajas of the Ganges Scholars of the South Tigris Wayfarers of the South Tigris The White Castle ...and yes I'm more obsessed with Garphill games than Mike
Another unique one that could have been mentioned that is often forgotten is Spyium. I also thought about Coal Baron the great card game and it's use of having to increase the value of workers when following other workers at a placement location.
I too like the Dune Imperium games and Architects. Some games that weren’t mentioned and I think they do something more than at its basic mechanism placing a worker (in no particular order): Yokohama Yedo Deluxe Dominant Species Tzolk’in Trickerion Marco Polo II Kingsburg Bus
Anachrony not being on this list is criminal 😂 I'd also put The Godfather: corleones empire on the list, but I could see why some would disagree with me. Whistle mountain was a great pick, though! 🤘
Great to see Endless Winter on Mike's list. It definitely counts, Tom, and the worker placement aspect has good decisions to consider). Also, I am getting so sick of gamers' "YoU cAn MaX oUt EvErYtHiNg" criticism of the game. Go ahead and "do" everything, and when I still whoop you by 30+ points as I've done against other players who "maxed" out everything, you'll realize how silly that criticism is. Gamers rave about games like Feast for Odin, which also lets you do everything you want and score for virtually everything at very high thresholds. That just proves how fickle and hive-minded many gamers get.
Three games I miss on this list: Underwater cities, Raiders of the north sea, and Lords of Warerdeep Even though I love Paladins, I find it hard to see it as a worker placement in light of the discussed parameters. There isn't a shared action-board. If you consider the different color worker as resources, the game is a acion selection (with resource management) above all.
I am shocked that Everdell was not on here. It's my top game and has been for a few years now. I am less surprised, but my 2nd favorite worker placement game is Tzolkin.
Workerplacement combine with bidding works fine. Resurgence (like Nova Roma from Stan Kordonsky) or Dungeon Pets are nice examples. Also when Tom was mentioning that Istanbul is Workermovement, why he didnt blame Mike for Outlive.
Does anybody consider Underwater Cities to be a worker olacement game? Im pretty sure in the rulebook it even says that the action tokens and cards are to be considered as workers. You place the tokens on an action slot and try to play a card matching the color of the action to get an additional action, which is representative of that worker going above and beyond what was asked of them
For those that want to look into some of the guys titles... Mike's 10. Last Will 9. Dune Imperium 8. Wonderous Creatures 7. Rise of the New Sovereigns 6. Unconscious Mind 5. Endless Winter Paleoamericans 4. Viticulture + Tuscany 3. Outlive 2. Paladins of the West Kingdom 1. Andromeda's Edge Zee's 10. Inori 9. Santiago De Cuba 8. Quadropolis 7. Lost Ruins of Arnak 6. Fallout Shelter The Board Game 5. Age of Empires The Age of Discovery 4. Istanbul 3. Targi 2. Nova Roma 1. The Manhattan Project Energy Empire Tom's 10. My Father's Work 9. The Great Wall 8. Charterstone 7. Architects of the West Kingdom 6. Viticulture (Tuscany) 5. Andromeda's Edge 4. Federation 3. Age of Empires The Age of Discovery 2. Whistle Mountain 1. Dune Imperium Uprising
I dont/haven't played many worker placement games, but heres my top 5. Viticulture w/ Tuscany Last Will Manhattan Project Energy Empire Creature Comforts Architects of the West Kingdom
I don't see the problem with the deluxe Version of Outlive. You shouldn't play with the plastic player pieces. Otherwise it is superior in every aspect. Takes a lot of space on the shelve though.
Mike, Tom, and Zee are so great together. So funny.
Especially once they are warmed up they really get into a groove.
the perfect combo
I'm a simple man. I see these three, and I click immediately
I click 👍before the video even starts! 😂
AGREE🎉
@@tristianrains4110 Worker Placement games are my absolute favorite mechanic! Hands down!
And then it gets even better with Joey's contribution to the show.
Agreeeeee
"Thank you, so much!!" to the person who added chapters to this video. They are super duper helpful.
You guys make me laugh more than any combo of DT crew. It's these videos that compelled me to fund the DT KS
agreed, they have the best chemistry
My top 10 would have 5-6 Uwe games in it lol. I don’t entirely agree with Tom’s assessment that many of his games don’t feel fresh or creative in regard to the worker placement system.

Amazing lists gentlemen!
Here's mine:

8. Caverna
7. Apiary
6. Unconscious Mind
5. Andromeda's Edge
4. Mistwind
3. Dune: Imperium
2. Nova Roma
1. Kanban EV
Oh, exciting to see Unconscious Mind on this one! I haven’t played my copy yet. I’m really excited for it, but need my full mental faculties, haha.
Dune Imperium OG or Uprising (and why?)
My picks:
10.) Viticulture w/ Tuscany and Visitors from the Rhine Valley
9.) My Father’s Work
8.) A Feast for Odin w/ The Norwegians
7.) Five Tribes
6.) Dominant Species
5.) Caylus 1303
4.) Bus
3.) Argent: the Consortium
2.) Agricola

Now that's a good top 10 list!
I just love these guys, that's why I always come back to the Dice Tower. They make it all so nice. With Mike being there less I'm really happy Joey is present. I love Roy, Camilla, Wendy, Chris and all the others too. This channel got me into board gaming as a hobby and I'm so grateful.

I love the bumping of the worker bees in Apiary as well as the variety of the placement spaces.

8. Tzolkin

10. Terramara
Love that Tom put Architects of the West Kingdom on the list, because it has such fun and interative worker placement.
We love joking about rounding up other players rabble, and it's one of the few take-that worker placement games I can think of.
great to see mike back!
I was surprised that Atlantis Rising wasn't on Zee's list.
I honestly think he forgot about it as it’s very high on his Top 100
Maybe he got put off because he waited sooooo long for the expansion. 🙄
Love the older top 10 titles getting a refresh
I think Worker Placement is still my favorite mechanic. I am going to have to leave this page up so I can get a good sleep and finish it over the weekend!
I picked up Everdell a few months ago and it's already become one of my groups favorite.
My top 10 WP games:
10. Stone Age
9. Beyond the Sun
8. Keyflower
7. Apiary
6. Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar
5. Lost Ruins of Arnak
4. Caverna /w Forgotten Folks
3. Everdell: Complete Edition
2. Dominant Species
1. A Feast for Odin /w Norwegians
My favorite WP game is still Tzolkin. Glad that it at least got a nod in the intro, even though it didn't make any of the lists.
Yeah, if making a list of games with unique/amazing/landmark worker placement mechanics, then this one HAS to be in the list.
I like that Tom put Charterstone on the list, because it does have interesting worker placement that's very interactive.
I'd love to see a Charterstone 2 or a non-legacy Charterstone.
I'm very excited about this list. Probably my top favorite mechanic.
My top 5 were Meadow, Viticulture, Under Falling Skies, Fields of Arle and Agricola.
👍
What about Keyper? I really like the choice about whether or not to follow/join a player when they choose an action and that makes it stronger (you get more actions/resources).
Keyper is great!
That's a one of the best TOP10. I want to play in 90% of mentioned titles. Adding to TODO list :)
Great to Santiago De Cuba on your list Zee. We just love this game! Have been playing it for years!!
My Top Ten
10 - Stone Age
9 - Architects of the West Kingdom
8 - Barbarians : The Invasion

6 - Tzolk'in : The Mayan Calendar
5 - Rajas of the Ganges
4 - Railroad Revolution
3 - Raiders of the North Sea
2 - Paladins of the West Kingdom
1 - Lords of Hellas
Honorable mention - Hawaii (Just for Tom)
Thank you very much to all three of you for this! You three are great trio, very entertaining and great chemistry. Hope you continue doing videos like this. Thank you! Keep up the great work.
The cut off gag is so funny. I love how much you make yourselves laugh with it!
Good to see you three together ♥
"Wolf whistle....everyone's a seer" I freaking died laughing!
Great video! And good choices of games for your tops 10.
I’m surprised that Raiders of the North Sea was not on Mike’s list.
Here is my top 10:
1) Andromeda’s Edge
2) Fields of Arle
3) On Mars
4) Federations
5) Dune Imperium
6) Anachrony
7) Architects of the West Kingdom
8) Viticulture
9) Bus
10) Targi
Federation is excellent! And so is this video 😊
Some more that i love not listed: Agricola, After the Empire, Caylus, LoWD, Little Town
My favourite worker placement game is still Lords of Waterdeep 😁
I agree with Mike!! I Feel Endless Winter is underrated! Inown lroa and dune and love all three! But endless winter is great to me. Great choice Mike!
Hey, glad you're enjoying Atlas Lost, Mike! I helped a bit with the translation work. Really solid game!
The OG three!! 🎉🎉🎉 love all the DT staff, just something special about these three!
Pretty sure the OG three are Tom, Zee and Sam...
I think in this instance OG means old guy. (As an old guy myself, it is okay for me to say this. 😉).
31:00 - so Tom take some comfort in knowing that none of that was really a spoiler because the rulebook from the beginning shows all the workers that will eventually join the game and the board is populated entirely by spaces to be filled in with stickers to become new locations
I’m dying at these transitions lol
Was glad to see Endless winter in there. It is my favorite worker placement game.
Great list! Own several games, but got really interested in Nova Roma.
I love Last Will!! Thank you for bringing up!
Words I NEVER imagined that Mike Dilisio knew, let alone would say: "straight thuggin" without the g.
So glad Mike DiLisio mentioned Outlive. I need to play this again.
intro music rocked like a Queen!
My Coffee spilled in my soda
Also Federation is the most underrated game in the past ten years.
Absolutely agree. Quickly moved into my top 10 games of all time.
I really want to own that game but the art turns me off 😔
TOTALLY AGREE!
Mine:
1. Dune Imperium
2. Paladins of the West Kingdom (though that’s barely a worker placement game with the lack of a shared board other the than the King’s Favour cards)
3. Beyond the Sun
4. Champions of Midgard
5. Raiders of the North Sea
6. Lords of Waterdeep
7. Whistle Mountain
8. Lost Ruins of Arnak
9. Architects of the West Kingdom
10. Caylus 1303
I love Targi so much!
Orleans, Dune Empirium and Paladins ALL DAY YAY maybe some Whistle Mountain, Viscounts, and Kingsburg in there too.
Underwater Cities
My favorite has to be Tzolkin the Mayan Calendar. I love the timing of when and where to place workers but more important is when to retrieve them.
Obsession would be my number 1. I love the theme and the use of the servant mepples.
Worker placement?
@ I would class it as worker placement. You have to decide how best to use your limited supply of servant meeple, who can be used to refresh supplies, look after guests, find rumours and man events. I would class it as definitely having aspects of worker placement
1. On Mars
2. Barrage
3. Dune Imperium
4.Ezra and Nehemiah
5. Istanbul
6. Stone Age
7. Scythe
8. Everdell
9. Lost Ruins of Arnak
"And another places we can't talk about". That escalated quickly 😂
Blue, red and green !
Wow, loved these lists and some games to look out for. I think though my number 1 would be Darwin’s Journey.
Should be renamed Top 10 Non Uwe Rosenberg Worker Placement games
14:19 T'was fine Acapella work by Zee and Mike for the most part.
My list would include argent the consortium, Lorenzo il magnifico, hallertau and pillars of the earth
Thanks for the Argent shoutout!
Pie Town has a nice worker strength mechanic where they can rest to become stronger, or you can use them and deplete their strength.
Mike Tom Zee the best Trio! ❤🤩✨
Waiting for Men Nefer to enter this list because it's brilliant.
So happy I could cry 😭
Great video!
My Top 10 Worker Placement Games are:
Architects of the West Kingdom (w/ both expansions and at least 4 players)
Kanban: Driver's Edition (I've not played EV)
Lorenzo il Magnifico
Lost Ruins of Arnak
Orléans
Paladins of the West Kingdom
Rajas of the Ganges
Scholars of the South Tigris
Wayfarers of the South Tigris
The White Castle
...and yes I'm more obsessed with Garphill games than Mike
Nothing by Lacerda? I just played "On Mars" and lived it! I also thought he was a big name in Worker Placement.
Another unique one that could have been mentioned that is often forgotten is Spyium. I also thought about Coal Baron the great card game and it's use of having to increase the value of workers when following other workers at a placement location.
I too like the Dune Imperium games and Architects. Some games that weren’t mentioned and I think they do something more than at its basic mechanism placing a worker (in no particular order):
Yokohama
Yedo Deluxe
Dominant Species
Tzolk’in
Trickerion
Marco Polo II
Kingsburg
Bus
Anachrony not being on this list is criminal 😂 I'd also put The Godfather: corleones empire on the list, but I could see why some would disagree with me. Whistle mountain was a great pick, though! 🤘
Agricola should be on every top10 worker placement list. :(
Worker placement game I'm enjoying most right now is White castle.
One of my favorite mechanisms. I own about half of these, and I'm not slowing down yet!
Furthermore I --
Great to see Endless Winter on Mike's list. It definitely counts, Tom, and the worker placement aspect has good decisions to consider). Also, I am getting so sick of gamers' "YoU cAn MaX oUt EvErYtHiNg" criticism of the game. again .. another great intro tune.. fantastic
I agree with Zee's differentiation of WP vs. Action selection. Besides the black market spots, I don't view Architects as a WP game.
What about Champions of Midgard? I can't believe it wasn't on the list
Three games I miss on this list: Underwater cities, Raiders of the north sea, and Lords of Warerdeep
Even though I love Paladins, I find it hard to see it as a worker placement in light of the discussed parameters. There isn't a shared action-board. If you consider the different color worker as resources, the game is a acion selection (with resource management) above all.
Good old Village. It's beautiful.
I am shocked that Everdell was not on here. It's my top game and has been for a few years now. I am less surprised, but my 2nd favorite worker placement game is Tzolkin.
The WP aspect is just so bog standard, it might be a good game (don't care for it myself), but more as the sum of parts and not because of its WP.
Workerplacement combine with bidding works fine. Resurgence (like Nova Roma from Stan Kordonsky) or Dungeon Pets are nice examples. Also when Tom was mentioning that Istanbul is Workermovement, why he didnt blame Mike for Outlive.
Bullets would certainly be safer than cartridges. Oh and my number one worker placement is currently The Manhattan Project.
I laughed out loud at every transition
Does anybody consider Underwater Cities to be a worker olacement game? Im pretty sure in the rulebook it even says that the action tokens and cards are to be considered as workers. You place the tokens on an action slot and try to play a card matching the color of the action to get an additional action, which is representative of that worker going above and beyond what was asked of them
Can't wait to meet you guys in Bangkok
A couple of these are also in my top 10, but I'm genuinely surprised that no one had Anachrony on their list.
For those that want to look into some of the guys titles...
