Trams in India, like in many other countries, have declined and disappeared in many cities for several reasons. Some of the primary factors that contributed to the decline and eventual disappearance of trams in India include:
Expansion of Road Networks: With the rapid expansion of road networks and the increasing popularity of automobiles and buses, trams faced stiff competition in terms of speed, convenience, and accessibility.
Congestion and Traffic Issues: In densely populated Indian cities, trams often struggled with traffic congestion, which affected their punctuality and efficiency.
Lack of Modernization: Many tram systems in India did not keep pace with modern transportation trends and technologies. They often used outdated infrastructure and rolling stock, which made them less competitive and attractive to passengers.
Pollution and Environmental Concerns: Trams, being electric vehicles, are more environmentally friendly than many other modes of transportation. However, some tram systems in India faced challenges in terms of pollution control and environmental regulations.
Urban Planning and Redevelopment: The need for urban redevelopment and city planning led to the removal of tram lines to make way for other infrastructure, such as wider roads, flyovers, and metro systems.
Financial Viability: In some cases, tram systems were not financially viable due to low ridership and high operating costs. This led to decisions to discontinue tram services.
Preference for Other Modes: As people's preferences shifted towards buses, cars, and two-wheelers, trams lost their popularity as a mode of daily transportation.
Maintenance and Rehabilitation Issues: Maintaining and rehabilitating tram tracks and infrastructure can be expensive and challenging, which led to the neglect and disrepair of some tram systems.
It's important to note that while trams have disappeared from many cities in India, there are efforts in some places to reintroduce tram systems as part of urban revitalization and sustainability initiatives. Trams are seen as a sustainable and efficient mode of public transportation in certain urban environments, and some cities are considering their return to address issues related to congestion and air quality. - Наука та технологія
Kolkata has a plan for expansion of tramways. News will be publish soon🎉 Kolkata has a modern tram coaches .
Lets hope for the best.
Bruh I have been yo kolkata recently. All the tramlines are closed. I speak from ground level
@@asmitasinha6547 Not true. Currently three routes are operational ie. (Tollygunge-Ballygunge, Gariahat-Esplanade & Esplanade-Shyambazar). The trams recently got a paint makeover for Durga puja. Saying this as a resident and have taken a ride a month ago.
@@Nightcrawler81 You are talking about a month ago, I am talking about a few days ago. Trust me none of the routes are operational , only the bare tracks are there which are now being covered up.
I have no intention of arguing, I am just sharing my personal experience
@@asmitasinha6547 The tracks look like that, I think you couldn't see one because the frequency is unimaginably low. It is very rare to spot one.
There are different use cases for different modes of transit. Trams will be great if implemented in cbd areas, with distance between stops being 400-600m. Trams capture this section of transit where it's too long to walk but too short to take the metro. And your first reason seems iffy, youre saying big cities couldn't run them because congestion and small cities couldn't run them cuz not many people? Trams are a solution to that congestion, instead of driving or walking, people will use trams. We cannot write off a whole mode of transportation this way, proper use case, implementation, and maintenance is what makes the difference.
Cities in India cannot rely on a single mode of transportation, systems like trams, trolleybuses, brt's, could help last mile issues too thay systems like metros, suburban rail, and lrt's can cause. Trams can come up on heavy pedestrian high streets like MG Road in Bengaluru, or connect different terminals and mmth in a big airport.
Some global cities that are comparable to Indian cities in population and area that also have good public transport systems are Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo. These cities do not rely on a single metro system, instead they have metros, suburban rails, rrts, monorail, brt, trolleybuses, streetcar, trams, biking infra, lrt etc. These systems are usually complimentary and non redundant, and service different use cases and service seekers.
Though the rakes used in Kolkata Trams are outdated but concept of trams isn't. Trams can still be a very useful public transport in India; for short distance travels trams can be useful
You made a similar video on Trams before. Is this a re-upload ?
Sir please make video, that why Agra is so underdeveloped after having a huge potential & after the humangas foreign & indian tourist visit there🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

#Askpt Can a state form its own company to extract and export mineral resources found in its territory to get all the export revenue for itself and avoid sharing the revenue to the Central government?
Uss state ko bhi dusre states se phir tax revenue nahi milna chahiye. Isse North states ko paise nahi milenge
Some years ago china made a tram that runs on rubber tyres (Basically a roadtrain but as a bus) would such articulated buses be good in Indian roads?
That is just a bus
I think we should just focus on metro, suburban rail, bus network and roads
India needs a two party system
@@HyperMusic13Technically it is at union level.
No why only ugly metros and bullet trains why no trams ?
Why ? Why only ugly stuffc
@@HyperMusic13multiparty system is our strength
#AskPT Why Kolkata is still running/having trams ?
Because of Heritage and nothing else state government runs it on very few routes recently they also introduced modern AC trams
Actually this mode of transport is connected with our feelings now. Trams are 150 years older heritage on the roads of Kolkata. Without these at least I can't think about my city. I wish thousands of trams start operating in all the closed routes again in Kolkata. The sound of the trams sounds like the city is breathing.... I'm from Kolkata..

Mono rail is just updated version of trams.....ye kaun bataye ga
It is not?
Trams don't really need a station
@@factoshala1487just a more smaller station
Travel distance and speeds are different
Monorail isn't bad
What makes this bad in India is poor planning and lack of economics of scale
@@magikarp1666No. We stop trams by showing our hands. I'm from Kolkata..
Tram is slow bad for traffic 9ld technology even modern european tram are slow
Good, metro trains are better than trams Cities should focus on metro trains.
For a sec I thought it read 'Trans kaha h?' 😮
Same Bhai same 😂 mein ne bhi wohi Read kra
Trams ki jagah Metro India k liye sahi hai..
Aap ek hi topic par bar bar vedio kyo banate ho
Congressi sarkaron ne trams. Patri aur bijli ke tar ka Loha bhi kabadiyon ko muft ke bhav mein bech ke khud badhia paise kama liye. Humne dekha Delhi mein.

Trams are outdated technology. India's focus is on Metros.
But Dubai and San Francisco have trams.
@@ramkumarsharma6331dubai and san Fransisco are worst for public transport. You can't go more than 10 km without owning a car. These places are just car heaven with 12 lane highways.
While india is highly dense like NY and Shanghai so we need world class metro like them
??? No they're aren't? They're great for short distances that are too long to walk but too short to use metro, like 450m-1km
@@okman9684 Ever seen the public transport infrastructure of Moscow???
they do use trams along with Buses, Metro(probably the best in the world) and local train
@@ksh19 with such less population density, india would have utopian public transport system😂. We cannot compare indian cities with other countries' ones dude
