Parents and universities are placing such high expectations on their children, there are better measures of academic achievement than passing one exam.
This exam indeed with it side effects, still is quite effective to filter best students to enter elite class universities. It build discipline, smart skills and other highly required characteristics. To me who was brought under very strict discipline due to my father been in army for 32 years. I understand value of exams like these and I applaud so much efforts put in to sharpen their skills.
Cultural areas influenced by Confucianism actually share the same examination system, such as Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even Vietnam, where competition is fierce. In addition, there are overseas Chinese who also value education, Chinese Americans, Chinese Malaysians, and Chinese Thais. This is one of the reasons for their success. The reason for Chinese students' poor English is simple, China has everything from textbooks to Internet media and applications in Chinese, and most of the scientific and technological information is also in Chinese, so there is basically no environment to use English. Students in Africa and South Asia have better English than Chinese students, but you can't say that education in these regions is better than in China.
Very informative video 👌 Reason i applaud these exams because exams like this build discipline and alot others skills to be successful in life even if u fail to achieve ur goals. And its more close to what i experienced from my father who was in army. Another reason is exams like these separate chinese students from others around the world who have different priority and goals, making it one of most effective exam and important tool in making the society.
Agree with your opinion about discipline, although the test is really hard, but the fact is that Chinese students are really hardworking and disciplined. We can learn a lot from their dedication to study😁
