My dad had a terrible alcohol addiction for many years. And from the time I was 16 years old to around the time I was 18 1/2 years old, my dads drinking got really really really bad. It started causing a lot of bad things to happen. It was ruining my relationship w/ him, my brothers relationship with him & it almost even got my parents to divorce.
But thankfully he went to Rehab finally & has now been sober for over a year!!
So I know what Trump means when he talks about his brothers alcoholism causing him to have a very tough life.
I've seen firsthand the major damage an alcohol addiction can do to one's life & those around them. Believe me, it isn't anything good at all!
Regardless if you like him or not, I think that we can all pity him for the loss of his brother.

Reading Mary Trump's book, it sheds more light. Fred Sr was obscenely cruel to Fred Jr. When Jr left the business to fly for TWA, his father harassed him through letters and by phone. He would send Donald to harass him too. But the worst part is that it worked and Sr had the upper hand again. The heavy drinking started throughout this.
The drinking got so bad, Jr lost his home. Fred put him and his family up in the worst apartment complex he owned and was treated worse than the other tenants. He even caught pneumonia from no heat

Marshall, to be fair though he brought all of that on himself by being so nasty toward other people in the first place. I've never heard another president or even presidential candidate act so nasty and rude. It's kind of shocking to me that people would support someone who speaks that way. Presidents will always face criticism and they should be able to handle that with grace and dignity.

My mum suffered from really bad depression, anxiety etc and the only thing that she believed helped her was alcohol, she also understood the many pitfalls that came a long with it but the medication from doctors kept her in bed all of the time to a point where she cldnt function. I'm glad that I got to know the real person behind all of the alcohol and illnesses but sadly the rest of my family gave up on her long b4 she died 😢

It's not always so tough for narcissists to lose a brother. You can think it was tough, but as someone who grew up in a family of narcissists, they don't care if you die. They may use it as a sad or interesting story to tell in the future, but narcissists won't have empathy or sympathy for the family scapegoat, which Fred Trump Jr. was. I voted Trump, but after reading about Fred Trump Jr., he seemed to quite clearly be the family scapegoat which is a difficult thing to live with that role.
