The parallel between the Attack Titan and Founding Titan is absolutely mind blowing. The Founding Titan's power is defined by it's predecessors but the Attack Titan's power is ultimately controlled by it's successors.
It is the living embodiment of the one small part of Ymir that had the will to escape her slavery. Even if subconsciously, she created the Attack Titan to somehow someday free herself, sending this will forward 2000 years in the future to the titan's final holder.
Yeah I love this little detail. It's also ironic that of all of the 9 titans, the users of the Attack Titan, the titan that fights for freedom, are the least free. Even the users of the founder have some free will. But every action Attack titan users make are influenced by an already determined future.
@@maizeman90 But the ironic twist on _that_ is that the Attack titan users are slaves to nothing less than Ymir's desire for freedom. As Eren realized and said to her... all this time, she was waiting for someone. Her subconscious 1/9th of a Self desired to rebel against King Fritz, even though the other 8/9ths of herself were Stockholm Syndrome-devoted to him and his kingdom. That 1/9th of herself shot forward into the future along the Paths. Ymir is not trapped _in_ the Paths. The Paths _ARE_ Ymir. Her past and future self all at once. And all her descendants are thus connected to her will throughout time. They are all "slaves" to her will and she is a "slave" to Fritz's, but the one part of her that rebelled, that one tiny sliver that kept running from him even with an arrow in her leg, that one part of her became the Attack Titan and finally rose up to silence the rest.
Not exactly... All Attack Titan successors cannot control their predecessors, if that was possible, Grisha could have controlled Kruger. Eren was the only Attack Titan inheriter who controlled his predecessors because he had Paths. In this particular episode if Zeke hadn't brought them to their father's memories, Eren wouldn't have manipulated him. And maybe that's how his ideology of Freedom and Moving Forward took over Attack Titan(with powers of Paths) and that's why every predecessor of this Titan never bowed down to anyone and kept moving forward. Whereas we audience thought ideology of Attack Titan took over mind of Eren back in starting of Season 4.
Eren's father, Dr. Jeager's voice actor, Hiroshi Tsuchida's performance in this ep and all this season was phenomenal. The emotions he put through these voicelines.. goosebumps again and again. "Are you happy now?" THE WAY HE SAID THIS LINE WILL FOREVER HAUNT ME AND GIVE ME CHILLS AND MAKES ME TEAR UP
The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future heirs. This was hinted at when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. In fact, Eren saw his future when he touched Historia's hand. Note that they can only see these memories, but cannot interact with them. So how could Eren meddle in the past? Well, he had 3 perfect conditions: 1. he Had Attack Titan ability 2. Founder Titan ability with access to coordinate 3. he was also in contact with someone with royal blood, too known as Zeke. After Zeke touched Eren's head, they were able to see Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of coordinates. They could freely see the past. Now if Eren had another Titan other than the Attack Titan, he could just watch. But since the Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's memories of the same event he is currently experiencing in real time. So, this means that every time Grisha can see or hear Eren, he is actually receiving a brief future memory from Eren's point of view where he can see with his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a third perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are seeing, allowing for two-way communication through time. Also note that whenever Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always behind his father. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, he is actually due to the memories of Eren's point of view.
Great explanation but it isn't forward in time, it actually is the attack titan's ability to send the current user's memories BACK in time, meaning Eren is choosing when to show his father future events, hence why Grishs doesn't know if Carla surives until Eren shows him later and that causes Grisha to give Eren the titan.
In my opinion, I dont think the Attack titan actually has a special ability. Instead when you eat a titan shifter you gain their memories as well which is a neural link that other titan's possess albeit limited. What makes more sense is that once Eren's will is shared with Ymir's in the next episode, Eren starts using Ymir's paths power to send snippets of his perspective down to past holders of the attack titan causing a loop. This shared experience with Ymir means Eren's neural link became unlimited and his thoughts no longer work within time so he can now see his past and his future plus share whatever (his future or his past) to previous attack titan users (even himself before he accessed Ymir's path ability). This is why he sees the Rumbling when he was in Liberio undercover and he shown snippets of it to Grisha after killing the royals in this episode. I have tried to be concise. Please reply if this wasn't clear enough
@@Raiden0011 dude anyone can justify the death of innocent children, am I going to go to join them? No because it's obviously morally wrong. Anyone can make a case, doesn't mean it's a good one
@@Smoochybear17 I understand, but what I meant is that the discussion will never end, because there is no good or evil in AoT. It all comes to perspective. If you look from Paradis' side, Reiner was evil and killed children too. If you look from Marley's, he was good, and vice versa for Eren.
@@Ecoxiss which is why she’s conflicted when eren asked how she feels about him. Throughout the show eren always says your not my sister/mom trying to separate that label again and again. Overall Eren loved Mikasa from the beginning (obviously) but she just didn’t know better and told him what she thought eren wanted to hear.
I think Grisha changes his mind after learning of the Wall falling and Carla's death (which he only learns of after seeing Zeke and telling him he has to stop Eren). He knew the Wall would be destroyed, but didn't know when or if Carla would survive. When he _does_ learn of it, he passes his Titans on to Eren, explicitly telling him he has to avenge his mother. Of course, knowing of the outside world, he knows it was Marley's Warriors that were responsible for attacking Shiganshina and likely already knows Eren will bring about their destruction, even if kid Eren won't understand at the time
Yup, he knew the amount of people eren would kill in the rumbling but didn't care since he found out Carla died. That's how eren manipulated him to even begin to go with the plan, he purposefully wouldn't show him the walls falling or carlas death so he'd go through with it.
This argument falls apart though when *spoilers* Grisha teams up with Zeke and Armin at the end to help stop the rumbling and Eren. It's a giant plothole.
@@ItsAv3rageGamer Spoilers . . . . . . . . . . . . . What are you talking about? Do you mean the past Titans that are formed from the Warhammer and aren't actual people but mind controlled zombies? Lmao
@@athena-love no ‘lmao’ The scene where Grisha, Ymir, Ksaver, Kruger and Bertholt all come to Zeke and Armin and fight back against the Titan shifters. Did you not read the manga?
Grisha's life is so interesting it really shows how an environment really influences a person's actions when he was in Liberio he HAD to raise Zeke like that, there was no other choice, it was for the good of the Eldians, the everyday life was a constant reminder and a boost of resolve for him, they HAD to change the way things were but once he got away from that reality, and went inside the the walls where life was actually peaceful in comparison, his resolve wavered and now he was actually able to put his love for his son in front of the cause it wasn't because he loved Eren more than Zeke, when he was in Liberio, he was in a constant state of desperation, something had to change and he worked everyday to achieve that, but in Paradis things were good, he found love again and became complacent, enough to delay his life's mission.
For the question of why did Grisha gave Eren the titan, in the episode, where we see a flashback of him doing so, this was the moment, when he discovered that Carla died. Eren was screaming: "Dad, what are you doing? You started acting weirdly after i said that mom has died". I think that this broke him completely, and maybe even reignited that hatred towards the outside world that he had once, and made him going with this future, that he saw.
Yup, eren purposefully wouldn't show grisha carla dying or even the walls falling so that he'd go through with the plan to get the founding titan and he HOPED that this would've saved them, so when he found out that she had died, he hated marley even more.
That actually ties the knot in his story wtf. Carla was the last straw for him, before he still had doubts but this was it, he's gotta make sure to destroy his enemies beyond the grave
The way this entire episode is thought out and the "time travel" just being Eren and Grisha simultaneously peering through each other's memories absolutely blew my mind the first time I watched it. This right here is probably my single favourite tv episode of all time if I'm being completely honest.
18:26 For that you need to watch S03E11 Bystander again. Grisha was pissed when he heard that Carla died. In his mind, this was like his hatred re-awakened.
Probably my favorite episode of AOT. Grisha breaking down at the end just had me in tears. I think Grisha gave Eren the titan because of Carla's death. Remember he said why wont you show me if she's alright. After Eren tells Grisha about her fate in Bystander. To me his face was just saying fuck it. Eren you can avenge your mother. I honestly can't believe he did that to his dad. This show is legendary.
19:20 because the original plan was to do a small rumbling to destroy military bases of Marley to stop them from attacking Paradis for 50 years and THEN do the euthanization. But since Eren and Zeke were outside of the walls in Marley at that point, it didn't make any sense to start a small rumbling because the titans would probably also trample them.
Eren 100% influenced Grisha's decisions .... He needed Zeke to show Eren the memories in order to influence Grisha's actions in the past - Zeke has an "Oh shit" moment when he realized he was being used by Eren for this exact reason and realized he screwed up by bringing Eren into his father's memories. The attack titan is the only titan who could have actually spoken to the other attack titan holders of the past, whereas those with founding blood can look into the memories while in the coordinate, but not interact with them - so Eren needed Zeke to open the memories of Grisha to him, so while he used the Attack Titan's powers, could speak to Grisha and influence his decisions. Zeke could only interact with Grisha because Eren was there with him.
18:25 The best explanation for this is that he thinks he wants to stop Eren but he wasn't aware that Carla had/would die and then when that happens he changes his mind and gives Eren the Attack + founding titan.
SPOILER Possibly, but it doesn’t make sense. Grisha helps Zeke and the Alliance in Chapter 137 to fight against Eren. Makes no sense for him to flip flop so much if his last scene alive was him telling Eren to destroy Marley.
Eren showed him that the Walls will fall but he didn't show him WHEN. Grisha went to take the Founder thinking he was out of time ( which he was ), without knowing that Carla was about to die and the walls would fall. If Eren had told Grisha the DAY the walls fell, Grisha wouldn't go, he'd probably get killed by Reiner and you'd have a time paradox. So Eren carefully gave Grisha only enough info to make the future happen.
@@ssj4rit Because it was an spontaneous decision he made out of anger at the moment, just like how he killed the royal family even though he didn't want to and regretted later
I think he gave the Titans to Eren, because he was running out off time and if he didn't pass the Titans to someone else, the Royal family and some random child would inherit the Titans.
Bruuuuuh, I was devastated when I heard they were trying to shut y’all down! My days with out the homies reactions was so painful to deal with. Glad to have y’all back!
and important note that’s cool to think about. grisha sees the future through erens memories, meaning he only sees from erens perspective. the scene we see grisha jump up thinking he saw zeke and even when he hugs zeke were meant to loosely demonstrate this. he talks to and about eren like he is a looming presence plaguing his mind. but he actually SEES zeke. when he jumps up in the basement, eren was standing behind grisha, specifically to look at zeke from that perspective, to then show that back to grisha.
I love their reactions because it's so clear by just their expressions that this show wasn't anything like what they were expecting (and it's such a treat to experience again)
You guys may already know but for anyone who doesnt: The time paradox arc is probably the hardest thing to understand in AOT. To understand it, you have to almost force yourself to believe that the story started from the ending or near the end. The past happened because of eren. When eren kissed historias hand, he saw his father killing the founding titan and the family, but he also saw himself and zeke, which let him know about "seeing the future" through the earlier attack titans. When eren kissed historias hand, he saw his fathers memories and in his fathers memories he could see HIS future (due to the attack titans powers.) The entire attack titan story started when eren realized that he could see the future. Now we're in the paths with zeke, zeke didn't know this, but when he collided heads with eren and brought him back to the memories, he WROTE history. That allowed eren to manipulate every aspect of the story. Why do you think every attack titan is a nationalist? Remember that scene where eren is in the dungeon and he's saying "fight, fight, you can't win if you don't fight." I'm 99% sure that was to the first attack titan, telling them to fight. (Since we know that they can send memories back and show the predecessors the future.) Also remember how eren specifically told grisha to leave the reiss father alive? He did that because he needed the father to bring eren and historia together so that eren could kiss historias hand and find out about his power. Everything that happened in the past was orchestrated by eren to get him to this point, and that happened because zeke went into grishas memories with Eren. Throughout the show eren realizes that he's become a slave to his own future and tiny instances (sasha saying meat, mikasa not admitting her love to eren) PROVE to eren that the future doesn't change, that's why he's always so frustrated and depressed. The time paradox goes way deeper but that's the spark notes aspect of it. (Also grisha never knew that Carla died, so even though he knew eren would slaughter unfathomable amount of people in the rumbling, once he found out about carla's death his hate for marley reignited. Another piece orchestrated by eren, he purposefully didn't give those memories to grisha so he'd go through with the plan.)
Actually, Eren only finds out how to manipulate the past through his father in this episode, he didn’t know before. At the beginning, Eren didn’t even want to go into his dad’s memories, he even said “I’m no longer brainwashed” to Zeke to get out of there and he was so surprised when he found out that Grisha can actually see Zeke as a “bearded man”. When Eren kiss Historia’s hand, he only see the inevitable future where he did the rumbling and a lot of people die but he didn’t see how he can get to that future. But I do agree with you, Eren is the one that plans all of this and have influenced many previous Attack titans, but that’s the Eren after teaming up with Ymir, not the Eren after kissing Historia’s hand.
@@haingocto4289 nah if he inherited his own future memories through his father’s own memories, then he atleast probably HEARD (not saw) himself manipulating his father to kill the Reiss family. That’s why he looked so disgusted after kissing her hand. But he probably didn’t know how it would happen until Zeke took him into PATHS. That’s when he realizes what he’s destined to do. I think the first time Zeke looks over at him and Eren just has a serious/angry face is because he realizes he’s meant to intervene in this moment. Also given how we see explicitly Eren kissing Historia’s hand again while these events play out is intended to mean he gets some of these memories too, I think. Otherwise it’s a bit odd to include it.
I mean eren literally told zeke that he was disgusted with his father. Zeke thought that was because his father killed the children etc, but eren was disgusted with his father for giving up in that moment. Eren has that angry face because of what the founding titan said, the founding titan said that his moms death was basically justified and that they all deserve to die. (Just realized you said the first face he made, yeah that's on point)
@@ssj4rit to me he looked more shocked than disgusted after kissing His’s hand, I mean he was going to kill millions of people. We are unsure of all the details he’d seen after the hand kissing but definitely not how to manipulate the past through his father. He might saw or hear himself pushing his father to kill the Reiss but he definitely didn’t know when that’s going to happen or how to make it happen at all (which I have mention in my previous comment). And with the face Eren was making when Zeke first look over, I think it just Eren being angry with what Freida was saying. Everything she was saying is completely the opposite of what he believes in. She said that Eldian should be locked up and suffer for what they did, and especially after everything he had been through, he definitely disagreed with her. Grisha literally begged her to save his family and her own people but she refused, she wanted Eldian to stay in their cages and Eren wanted freedom so yeah, he was not happy hearing her said that. But I do agree with you, that was the exact moment when he realized what he needed to do. For the hand kissing scene keep popping up to me indicate the inevitable future ahead of them, everything they do or going to do will result in that moment and they (the attack titans) are guided by that moment to act correctly to make sure that it will happen. It’s like a reminder that they have to do what needed to be done no matter what, for Grisha was to kill the Reiss and took the founding titan because that’s the ‘right’ thing to do.
@@evanbell7825 Then we find out he controlled Carla towards his mother. That's when all of this stopped having any meaning for me. I could believe he was justified until then.
Eren was standing behind Grisha both times he could see Zeke. Grisha was seeing Zeke through erens memories. The contact was just to immerse the viewers and push the symbolism
Grisha is seeing Zeek through Eren's memories. That's why Eren is always behind of Grisha when he sees Zeek. The crazy thing is, Eren chose to let Grisha see Zeek. can you imagine why? omg what a show. amazing.

18:55 yeah but zeke didn't know that before he was put back together by yimir that he had such power over her so he rewrote the law that king frits put on the royal line and tricked eren that he was still subdued by the law but he wasn't

Glad to have you guys back. In my own understanding for "why zeke and eren didn't do it when they first met in marley" It is because they don't totally trust each other (considering they fought with different sides) and they don't know what could've happened if they made contact (if they will transform or who would we in control of the founding). I would also like to point out that in 8:40, Grisha is literally speaking with the future eren from Grishas timeline at that moment. And my only explanation on how Grisha was able to hug Zeke or see him is that Grisha was literally hugging the air at that moment because he saw it from Eren's point of view. It is still crazy to think that one person (Isayama) can write something this good and complicated that can affect someone's feelings and point of view in life.
So glad to see the channel back, having the channel be screwed over by youtube the DAY before one of the best episodes and biggest plot twists ever was brutal to deal with. But we're here!
I think the reason that Zeke and Eren didn’t immediately use the founder was because Zeke actually planned to carry out the mini rumbling so that Paradis would be left alone while the population died out.
Not only that, the royal bloodline still couldn't die with Zeke and Historia. Historia should have children first, to ensure that there is a titan of royal blood and a founding titan on the island. So rumbling would still remain possible as protection until the end of Eldia by the euthanasia plan
Yes this is exactly right. And Eren would have insisted on crippling Marley's military in the Liberio attack as a condition of his (fake) participation in the euthanasation plan.
YESSSSSSSSSSS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS EPISODE TO DROP. love you guys. Thanks for sticking it out I can’t imagine keeping the channel from getting deleted was fun or easy. There are other channels that show way more than you guys do, and the show gets attention through things like this so idk why you would get so many strikes.
eren gladly went with zeke to see his dads memories because he possibly knew that moment was gonna come (he saw it happen when he kissed historias hand) and that it was the only way he could have had the chance to communicate and influence his dads actions in the past at that underground chapel.
8:41 in chapter1 Grisha was looking outside the door when he showed the key,was cut from episode1....Isayama had all this planned since ch1; another example is Ep1 and NXT epsiode's title 🛐
I swear every time a juicy bit scene was just about to come up, I would react with Mackay, Brigg and Jackson’s sneak looks. Miss you guys! Welcome back!
5:01 At this moment, Eren tested if he could send back what he was witnessing at that moment to Grisha as a memory. Upon realizing that it worked, even Eren himself was shocked.
I don't think that's true, he didn't have the founder yet. The memories of the future were only sent when he got control of the founder through Ymir. The memories of the future being an Attack Titan power isn't true, it's the founder. This is also why he saw memories under the tree before he had the Attack Titan.
Every time grisha sees zeke its actually eren sending his own current pov to him live. So grisha is actually seeing himself and zeke from a third person view. This also means that when he shows young eren the key will staring straight into old eren’s eyes he’s actually seeing himself through eren’s eyes while knowing eren is literally a meter in front of him but he doesn’t have any way to see eren
Yall don't understand how much I needed this reaction. and I was checking notifications everyday to see if these guys posted anything. LOL Love that they are back. Welcome backkk

I think the reason Grisha also followed through giving Eren the Attack Titan was because he was at the end of his 13 years of being a titan. Also, welcome back! I'm so happy to be watching y'all again 🙏
This episode was so insane to me especially because it calls back to the first literal scene of the show when eren as a kid gets flashbacks, bc future eren sent his past self those memories. And in the episode older eren and zeke are drawn as background characters that you can actually spot if you watch it back
Regarding to the question at the end why they didnt just touch in Marley. 2 reasons. 1 they just wanted to be extremly cautious as they didnt know what would exactly happen if they touched. 2) part of the euthanization plan was to still have a small rumbling so they qhould better be in paradise when they start this.
Since the moment you started watching AOT this was the episode I was expecting the most and I had to wait 3 weeks! And you know what? It worth every second❤
Notice how Grisha only sees Zeke when Eren is nearby, and looking straight at both of them? He is seeing the memories from Eren's eyes. He wasn't seeing Eren before. He saw himself through Eren's eyes. That's how he knew Eren was standing in the doorway.
I think the reason Eren and Zeke didnt make contact at Marley, because they need to near the wall to release the Small rumbling to destroy Marley army to keep peace at Paradise until they died out. There is no point for sterilize Eldians 1st because when they make contact affter, Eren can still change it back. So ...no need to complicated the story more when its too complex anyways. P/s : sr for my poor English, its not my native
1. The reason why ig grisha passed down the titan power even though he said to stop eren to zeke has something to do with Carla dying and i think her dying was kinda made him go along with eren''s plan to save Eldia 2. Zeke and Eren didn't touch in Marley because they really didn't know what that power's consequences could be and probably didn't want to activate the titan powers which will alert the nearby titan shifters. Also they didn't really trust each other at that moment enough to start the rumbling.
But Zeke didn't want to do the rumbling, he only wanted to Euthanise Eldians. So why didn't Zeke try to shake hands with Eren then and there if in his mind Eren is also onboard for the Euthanisation Plan?
18:43 This question can be answered in episode 11 of s3 part 1 when we see Grisha holding child Eren questioning to him: Where is Carla? and Eren said: She got eaten by a titan. Knowing that Carla is dead he decided to entrust the founding and the attack to Eren.
Fun fact, the reason that Grisha could see Zeke was because Eren was looking at Zeke from behind Grisha (both times), so Grisha could see him from Eren's memory of looking at Zeke within the memory :0

15:17 to answer your question cannon, no he did not. If you look at his face he looks terrified before she shoots his head off, meaning he did not know she was going to do so, he only knew parts of the future. So he knew he’d eventually get to grieshas memories, but not how. It’s very interesting if you think about it.

@@maizeman90 But the ironic twist on _that_ is that the Attack titan users are slaves to nothing less than Ymir's desire for freedom.
As Eren realized and said to her... all this time, she was waiting for someone. That 1/9th of herself shot forward into the future along the Paths.

So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, he is actually due to the memories of Eren's point of view.
this coment explain everything
Great explanation but it isn't forward in time, it actually is the attack titan's ability to send the current user's memories BACK in time, meaning Eren is choosing when to show his father future events, hence why Grishs doesn't know if Carla surives until Eren shows him later and that causes Grisha to give Eren the titan.
They should pin this comment
There is a hole in your explanation: how were they able to touch each other?
"Eren's kinda evil"
"Is he though?"
Ahh, I love this, the two sides of an endless argument. (Edit: Well, it would seem the replies proved my point)
There's no discussion about it, he's doing evil. The problem is there's people that support the evil

i also noticed that on my second watch really sad stuff
She literally said in the first episode "so it happened again". She saw them as her parents too
Actually, Mikasa looked away when Eren's mom got eaten. So she didn't actually "see" her die. (She also didn't see Grisha die)
@@Ecoxissomg this was what i thought today when i watched these reactio videos

The scene where Grisha, Ymir, Ksaver, Kruger and Bertholt all come to Zeke and Armin and fight back against the Titan shifters.
Did you not read the manga?
Grisha's life is so interesting
it really shows how an environment really influences a person's actions
when he was in Liberio he HAD to raise Zeke like that, there was no other choice, it was for the good of the Eldians, the everyday life was a constant reminder and a boost of resolve for him, they HAD to change the way things were
but once he got away from that reality, and went inside the the walls where life was actually peaceful in comparison, his resolve wavered and now he was actually able to put his love for his son in front of the cause
it wasn't because he loved Eren more than Zeke, when he was in Liberio, he was in a constant state of desperation, something had to change and he worked everyday to achieve that, but in Paradis things were good, he found love again and became complacent, enough to delay his life's mission.
Eren was the son Grisha wanted in Liberio and Zeke was the son he wanted in Paradis.

@@LameKitten55 I second the petition

You mean Carter?
Woahh that makes a ton of sense, I never picked up on that thanks
Yah makes sense. He lost 2 wives and families because of Marley. He just broke and said f it, destroy the world Eren.
That actually ties the knot in his story wtf. Carla was the last straw for him, before he still had doubts but this was it, he's gotta make sure to destroy his enemies beyond the grave
@@SB19ATIN00 And yet he joined the alliance and fought against eren in the final battle. I dont understand why.
Still doesn’t make sense considering Chapter 137
^^^ exactly
What the 0-.0
18:25 The best explanation for this is that he thinks he wants to stop Eren but he wasn't aware that Carla had/would die and then when that happens he changes his mind and gives Eren the Attack + founding titan.
SPOILER
Possibly, but it doesn’t make sense.
@@ssj4rit i think it mightve just been a fit of rage that caused grisha to give the titan to eren so that he could get revenge for his mother
17:10 exactly. Grisha saw Zeke from the POV of Eren through Eren's memories from the future, which he sent back to Grisha in the past

Grishas voice actor killed this it was so awesome to witness this when it first aired
I love their reactions because it's so clear by just their expressions that this show wasn't anything like what they were expecting (and it's such a treat to experience again)
You guys may already know but for anyone who doesnt:
The time paradox arc is probably the hardest thing to understand in AOT.
11:26 Since he already watched it, I love his face like "Here it comes...", he does that a lot 😂

Consider it done Carter :salute:

5:01 At this moment, Eren tested if he could send back what he was witnessing at that moment to Grisha as a memory. Upon realizing that it worked, even Eren himself was shocked.
I don't think that's true, he didn't have the founder yet. The memories of the future were only sent when he got control of the founder through Ymir. The memories of the future being an Attack Titan power isn't true, it's the founder. This is also why he saw memories under the tree before he had the Attack Titan.

1. The reason why ig grisha passed down the titan power even though he said to stop eren to zeke has something to do with Carla dying and i think her dying was kinda made him go along with eren''s plan to save Eldia
2. Zeke and Eren didn't touch in Marley because they really didn't know what that power's consequences could be and probably didn't want to activate the titan powers which will alert the nearby titan shifters. Also they didn't really trust each other at that moment enough to start the rumbling.
