  • Most probably the best video recording of Buddy's right hand technique.....He is playing a "Fuzzy" guitar, later renamed to "Excel" guitars. Invented by Japanese maker, Mitsuo Fujii.

Wonderful post. Thank you RC for this. Buddy appears to be thoroughly enjoying himself, especially on "All Of Me"....

I believe Mr. Fujii is the gentleman playing the Pedal Steel on the left side of the screen. RC
The Big E shoud have been an Ambassador for the United States....he had charm, wit, and intelligence. His solo on the Neil Hefti tune Little Darling is visually stunning....the best view I have ever seen of his right hand picking...my goodness...it was like a giant spider! Enjoy RC and thanks Mr. Fujii for this video.

I just learned that the name of the gentleman on the left is Takeyoshi Noguchi. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, though. The backing band is called the Wind Breakers. (No joke.) All the steel guitars (labeled "Fuzzy"; you might know them as "Excel" guitars) were built by Mitsuo. Other players in the first video, left to right, are Ozaki (brown wood-grain guitar, who Mitsuo said is probably the best steel guitarist in Japan) and Shintaro Ishida (red guitar). In the last segment, another familiar face is Jimmy Tokita, (wood-grain acoustic guitar) second from the left in the line-up. I became friends with these gents (except Mr. Noguchi) thru Mitsuo in the late 70s when I was based in Japan, playing Japanese and American night clubs with him from Yokosuka and Atsugi to Misawa. Mitsuo and I attended the Deep South Steel Guitar shindig in Gulfport this year Nov 2nd-3rd, then ran around Nashville on the 4th and 5th before Mitsuo went back to Tokyo.

@@RonaldCid maybe it's my phone. I've not listened to it on my computer... always turning it on in the car. I'm teaching myself some of Buddys solos on this. Boy there are some good ones.
It's almost like the sound is panned all the way left or something when I tun my phone through the cars bluetooth
But again it may be my.device.
Great video none the less. Thank you

Truly this man did it all when it comes to the music world. Hope he was ready to meet JESUS CHRIST at his death, otherwise, all was in vain. Well maybe not in the sense that he was a major influence on the Christian players as well as secular. R.I.P. Buddy. You absolutely were the god father of the pedal steel guitar.
