  • Are you frustrated trying to set your timer for your sprinklers? This video will show you how to program your Irritrol Rain Dial Sprinkler System Controller to your yard. In this video we will set the timer to the water lawn sprinklers only, but it will help you understand how to set this timer for your home.
    First, you must set the bottom middle switch to the "SET PROGRAMS" (this is the timers on/off switch). When you are in the "SET PROGRAMS" setting you can make adjustments to any part of the program but you MUST remember to set the timer to the RUN position when you are finished.
    One of the most confusing parts of the timer is the switch on the top left of the controller that gives you options for A, B, or C. This is made to separate your plants, trees, and lawn from running together. You may sometimes need to run your turf multiple times in a day while running your trees and plants every other day or even less frequent. You can actually program some STATIONS on Program A to run just the lawn and other STATIONS on Program B so that they don't run together.
    In this video we will set Program A to run STATIONS 1-6 (lawn stations) to run 30-40 minute run times for our MP Rotators. In order to program, we want it set to "Program A" on the far left switch, and then move the center dial to each numbered station to set the times for each one using the buttons on the top right of the controller (+ & -) .
    The next setting to program is the water days. You can move the dial to the day you want to water and use the buttons on the top right (+ & -) to set each day to the ON or OFF position on the screen of the controller. You also have a skip day option if you prefer to use that instead, however, we like to pick the water days so we know when it is watering.
    The last thing to program is the run start time for each program. Just move the dial to START TIME 1 to set the time when you want the entire program to run and it will cycle through each station one at a time on the entire program. This is a great place to set multiple watering start times if you want to split your watering throughout the day. This helps when you have heavy run off, pooling water, or hills that don't get enough water on the tops. We also set three watering times in October if you are overseeding with winter rye in the Fall.
    If you don't know where to start when it comes to the watering schedule, here is a recommendation starting point to water for each season. Keep in mind that not all yards are the same and if you want to get quicker results, you may want to sometimes water very heavy for a week or two. Also, there are other properties that are heavy shade or poor drainage that my require less water.

    Great video, and I've watched about 10 videos now. Still a little confused on how ABC works. Will it run multiple programs or only 1 program and it needs to be manually switched.

      You only use different letter programs to separate turf from plants and trees. The reason is because here in AZ we sometimes run turf valves multiple times per day when seeding and you want plants to
      Be on that same program.

      @@AMSLandscaping thanks for the quick reply. We are here in Woodland Hills, Ca. Going to separate shrubs and flowers from turf. I wish there were a summer/winter feature. How do you address seasonal needs ie. in winter our turf needs very little water compared to summer.

    I'm still looking for a video for this unit that explains how it runs more than 1 solenoid.
    Is that what A,B, & C is all about? I've installed Rainbird & Orbit units a number of times and have never had to look on youtube for help.

      T Ago thank you for your question. Without a doubt it can be confusing. When I refer to “stations” or “valves” I’m referring to each “solenoid” that runs each section of lawn or section of plants or trees. A, B, & C are to separate turf from plants or trees (we run Turf multiple times per day during seeding season so we need that separate from plants and trees). I hope that makes sense. If not please send me a video thru social or email eli@azlawns.com or @ AMS landscaping on Facebook.

    Hi there. How do I program a station to run 2x per day as it is very hot and flowers are withering by end of day. Thank you!

      Add 2 start times so that the program runs twice per day. You can add up to 3 start times on these timers.

      Mine is going off twice for program A even though start time one is 6 am and start time 2 and 3 are off. The second time it runs is at 730 pm. I have nothing programed for 730 pm. I only have two station runs one in front and one in the back. The rest of the station runs are off. Any ideas why it would go off at 730 pm when I only have one start time set for 6 am. Weird. Program b and c are off. Maybe I can reset everything and start over!

    I have set my rain bird to the way you have shown me in the video. However, rhe timer should only run for 25 min total, but it is running 2 hours. what is the problem?

      Amy Mayer did you check that zone with each program? Sometimes more time is added on A B or C programs or multiple start times. Contact our office at azlawns.com if you still need help.

    Not 1 of the videos on programming this controller ever mentions that "Station Run Times" refers to the number of times a "Valve" (A,B or C) can water in a day... or that valves A,B,C can run at the same time or overlap. Why? Or am I wrong?

    • @AMSLandscaping
      @AMSLandscaping  5 років тому +1

      Sorry for any confusion, I should have said station “start” times. Haven’t seen this video in a while and can’t recall how I refer to it. Station run times should refer to how long each station runs. The reason water start times is important is when planting rye grass. Hopefully that makes more sense. If not feel free to contact us.

    No one seems to want to do a video on how B AND C programs work. If I set up a B program to just water stations 4 and 6 on Wednesday. Do I have to manually switch the controller to B each time I want this to happen?

    • @AMSLandscaping
      @AMSLandscaping  4 роки тому +1

      Carl Bradley Great question. I know it’s super confusing with A B & C. You are absolutely right, if you run just zones four and six on Wednesday with the program B it will run without having to be left on that program. The only reason there are separate letter programs is so you could water your turf daily and maybe your plants and trees every 3 to 4 days. I hope that makes sense
