Performance Oscar Peterson Trio with Oscar Peterson on piano; Ray Brown, bass and Ed Thigpen, drums.
Direction and production = Theo Ordeman. Duration 31'22 ''
Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (Montreal, August 15, 1925 - Toronto, December 23, 2007) was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer.
His father taught him to play the trumpet and piano at the age of five. After contracting tuberculosis, he focused on the piano when he was seven. He quickly gained the reputation of a technically brilliant and melodically inventive jazz pianist, becoming a regular guest on radio programs. He made his first appearance at Carnegie Hall in 1949.
He has played with Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, Ed Thigpen, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Stan Getz, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day, Clark Terry and Joe Pass, among others. An important moment in his career was when he joined the labels of impresario Norman Granz (especially Verve Records), which enabled him to collaborate with the great jazz artists of the time.
This performance which featured songs from the film West Side Story, was first broadcast on August 15, 1965 by AVRO Television, the Netherlands

Can't believe only 4 comments! A young Oscar swinging his brains out as I remember at Chicago's London House. He hit the LH about 4 times a year. Always packed, never missed it.

Anyone who sees this… be the best person you can be and risk every flaw you have. just not all. there might be a reason so instead don’t risk any flaw or good thing. just keep adding what you think is good for you 😇 People think of you when they sleep. hurting yourself can hurt people so what’s the point?

This is exactly the same trio I used to see every time they toured in England. I saw all the American jazz greats also without realizing the terrible treatment coloured people received in USA. We accepted them for what they were ; as the gods of music !
