Only a handful of bass players in jazz history could hold their own with Oscar. Pedersen was the absolute best!
One of those rare symbiotic relationships where both enable each other to soar freely while pushing each other to do their very best work. My favorite duo of all time!
Absolutely unreal
It must be so nice to just imagine what you want to hear and just be able to play it!
"So nice"? 🤣🤣🤣😭😍
I can’t even hear what he’s playing it’s so hard
It’s nice when the hand just do it. They are Nike hands.
The secret is: practice, practice, practice. 😉😁😁😁
@@shamrock3639 the 3 key secrets to success... love that quote. So true
I come back to this recording at least once a month. There's never been anybody quite like Oscar. Wish I had been blessed enough to have met and learned from him in person. Hope you're chilling up there in the afterlife, grandmaster Peterson! We all miss you so much ♥️
Peterson & Pedersen. How could it be better?
If you're doing a duo with Oscar Peterson you know you're one of the best. These two are legendary.
Absolutely !!
I have written it before and will repeat, If you dont feel well and happy after listen to this two UNIC artist you have missed something in life..
That... rocked my world. Glad to be in an age where I can experience this... on a planet where this happened.
These two men were simply the best. And even better than the great music they were playing was to see the way they enjoyed what they did.
when I hear this capture a strong homesickness not only for Canada but for America and the people and landscapes there
just like Niels Henning can evoke a feeling of something uniquely inherently Danish but also encapsule the whole of Scandinavia with its landscapes and light in a few mellow singing lines
Fabulous duo. Pederson compliments Oscar fantastically
Truly one of the greatest pianists who ever lived. I hear a lot of great player who inspire me, and then there is Maestro Oscar Peterson.
A real Canadian treasure
Nils Henning Orsted Pederson was really on of a kind - an absolutely solitaire!
I have been a lifelong fan of OP and NHOP. Great artistry....Great swing! I think we have to add a note of appreciation to the recording engineers and videographers who captured these images and sounds for our enjoyment 40 years later!
Undoubtedly true. The sound fidelity is so astoundingly preserved.
This classy duo is a gift from heaven!
The North Star of Jazz.
There are just not enough words to fully compliment OSCAR and NIELS for such totally enthralling performances of their ultimate lalents
These two, as a double bass and piano player they are currently my favorite players of all time. Everything about them is something to idolize, the passion they have for music to showcase what it truly can be. Guys it is up to us to keep this alive, great music like this has no reason to fade!
It's hard not to smile when you sound so good!
Paul Jackson .....I’m clapping in isolation here in midtown manhattan.... and missing my regular Monday night jazz at Kitano around the corner. This is indeed a treat. Miss Jenny
Yes, that would be hard not to smile. Definitely a kind of sh*t eating grin, too! :)
les plus grands JAZZPLAYERS reunis un grand moment de bonheur👍
Dear Team of "WORLD OF JAZZ"! GREATEST THANKS FOR THE GREAT MUSIC! PLEASE MORE Mr. OSCAR PETERSON!!!!! He is the best for ever! I had a great honour to meet him and dedicated and presented him several of my works. Mr. Peterson praised the music and personally placed these works in his own archive in the National Library of Canada in 1997.
It just amazing to hear how much he put in-between the melody. And How effortlessly he does it. He just heard on a different level, and was able to play it.
NHOP must have been the Nemesis a la Art Tatum for all other bassplayers during the 70s and 80s...... And guitarists to......Looking at this almost 40 years later, its still totally breathtaking...
40+ years ago, even when you wrote it
Oscar P. and Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen at their very best. Love it, ...Kai Jørgensensen, Denmark
Jeg husker dem i Montmartre , mange år siden....Niels Jensen
They just had fun and got paid doing it !! The applause for a job well done ...Priceless ! Thank God for Hands that have that amazing life giving dexterity !!
WOW he can certainly tickle the ivories. FABULOUS 😊😄👍👏
Oscar Peterson - Total mastery of a beautiful language of Jazz. We miss you.
I, m enchanted: O.P. & N.H.O.P. a real fireworks in jazz music!
Peterson's time is so perfect we should all set our clocks by it.
And a SMILE from NHOP at 10:50!!
And again at 52:39 😊
There really aren’t words for how good these two are!
that´s is Musik and feeling😇
Beautiful !! Oscar and Niels ,what a great combination .
These two men were gods on earth with what they chose to do. Players that want to learn jazz, it can’t get any better. Listen to these two closely, over and over it will help unwind a little the miracles Oscar and Neils did every time they played, never the same way twice. So wherever the giants of their craft, are now , miracles do happen. I will carry these artists in my heart forevermore.
absolutely agree
The Gentleman of Jazz
They compliment each other so well, OP and NHOP.
Niels had Oscar's back. A great dynamic duo.
Two of the best.
The trail of notes, the sounds, are unpredictable to my ears. That’s part of what excites me listening to this level of talent. How does he / they know where to go next, the perfect inevitable note is always there and is such a perfect joyful surprise for me following him / them down the rabbit hole.
YES!
YESS!
YESSS!
This is a Bass player! I've been playing since 1967, Niels has blown my doors off. Been studying him and one day we will JAM!!
I also love the bass. However, I cannot play one ... yet
Oscar 💐💐💐 thank you for your gorgeous gift to the world. I miss your music.
Best jazz piece I have ever heard!
Met Mr Peterson at `Jazz at the Philharmonic` in his dressingroom in Bournemouth UK and then on the tour bus. A perfect gentleman, dedicated to his music and it shows.
Can you remember anything else about the encounter??
What a perfect jazz pianist! And compositions! 💜
Wow! what a duo. The base player is outstanding.
This Genius is an extreme Rarity. I honestly don't think we'll have another like him and also the feat today's pianists would need to even come close in today's world. Thank you Mr. Peterson!
I think that the only one that can come close to Oscar..is gesus Molina from Colombia... you can see his videos...a lot of people and musicians say that he is the next Peterson
@John Abbenda maybe not now..but he is on the way to be
Superb effortless imaginative playing from both artists...
Both sublime musicians, I count it amongst one of my most incredible live music experiences, witnessing Oscar Peterson play live in Liverpool in 2006. He was old and frail, requiring assistance on stage by band members. But when he played everything came alive, even though I was only 10 at the time it was clear to me that I was in the presence of a special artist. Would you believe that on the same day England was playing Portugal in the World Cup and as a result a good portion of the audience was not in attendance which meant we were able to get much better seats than the ones we had paid for. Sad that people prioritised football but lucky for me and my dad to hear such a great musician in what was one of his last concerts in the UK.
If I haven't said this already here last year, and my comment might have sunk way down to the bottom of the last page, I'll tell you this: I WAS THERE!!!!! Later on I had this on video, and now it's at my fingertips on You Tube. Hail to our present day technology. Thank you "World of Jazz"!!
What's the name of the first song they're playing?!?! Its been recking my brain for months now...I appreciate your help!
@@reginaldmoses2273I also had the same experience you had, with difficulties to recall this tune name. I remembered vaguely something like "good pal" or "nice fellow" and googled but haven't found such a standard, but then, I noticed it's up there is the video description : " Tracklisting among others: Old Folks....." OLD FOLKS, that's what it is :-)
@@reginaldmoses2273 "Old Folks"
How could someone be that good on a grand piano?
☆☆☆☆☆
Momentos em que Oscar e Niels rompem a barreira do humanamente possivel em termos de harmonia e improvizaçao.
Amazing!
I will never know what the lord put into this man, but I know exactly what came out. It’s plain to see. The ability to produce any emotion at any given time
In sad moments of my life, i think about this: If such a miracle like Oscar exists, then anything can happen, anything possible.
Thank God he wasn't aborted. How many other Oscar Peterson's have been.
really
I was beginning to think that having Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, and Keith Jarrett in the same century was signaling the end of the world -- that God wanted to get in all the incredible, mind-boggling creating he could before he pulled the plug.
@@danwaldis4553 All three of those you’ve just lsted annouced the beginning of a new era in finding the right keys ...
The only sad part is that, most of so called “White Canada” still doesn’t have a clue who OP was, let alone what kind of a *Giant* he was. Some call it *Rasism*, I’ll feel blessed and just listen to his playing ...
@@skoch9995 You might have something there. And it's definitely sad.
Wow... Oscar was a genius
Amazing performance! Thanks for sharing
You play your song of love, and just for me. Thank you, Oscar.
NHOP so fluid, so fantastic.
I like Oscar Peterson a lot and his bands. Is friendly smile and nice disposition makes excellent music as always much gratitude and thanks to him it's always a pleasure to hear him and talk with him to his interviews like with Dick cavett or funny and great informative to God bless
This was the first concert I ever attended, just 12 years old, such a magical experience, seeing my idol doing it in the flesh, unbelievable really. I vividly remember Soft Winds.
I saw the same thing later, in 1980, at Carnegie Hall. Unforgettable.
You're a privileged man.
mcrohof he was a great guy I used to tune the pianos for him and sometimes we had a 'sesh' together many times afterwards jamming through to the early hours on 2 pianos! I used to call him the big 0 he was of course a better pianist than me but I learnt a lot
How fortunate you could have this experience at 12 years old. I was about double your age and saw him in Köln, Germany. I sat in the front row, with my wife, close to the piano. Already as I saw him walk out, and sit on the piano stool - my heart was thumping. But when he played that first cord, my throat tightened and I thought I would never get my breath back. That moment, even after 50 years, my throught feels that moment. I always appreciated going to concerts when in Germany, listening to my music with appreciative music lovers.
12 years old, train from Bellingham, Wa to Vancouver, BC. Lots of walking-nothing to fear in the early 60s. Oscar with Ray and Herbie. Home by 3am. What an experience!
J’ai eu le privilege d’y etre. Quel beau moment ! 🥰
Wow!
Most awesome performance I have ever heard!
Bon Voyage dear Mr. P and Mr NHOP> We all love you.
I went into a record shop in 1957 at ten years old and asked the guy to let me hear some jazz, I wish he had let me hear some of this.
what did he play for you
Simply the best!
Absolutely Astounding.
You're burning my ears here, Peterson. At this stage I'm seriously starting to fear that a spontaneous self combustion is imminent. Too much is happening here, man.
Too much, too perfect. You're all over the place.
You go where no man has gone before.
Mind-blowing. I saw him 12 months earlier, performing in Sydney. It was one of the highlights of my life.
Count yourself very very Lucky
The way Oscar and the bass player are on the same wave length is a thing of beauty.
"the bass player"
3 minutes in and I'm already learning something new
Amazing playing
Pedersen was a vastly under acclaimed bassist! We all know about Ron Carter and Ray Brown et al. but he really blends with Oscar
1979: Art Tatum smiling with awe at this sensational perfoermance
2019: Oscar Peterson sending his blessings to the loyal Jazz community around the world
he’s a real magishen, admire him since i was 16, (now 82)
Oscar's music will live forever with us
A world class treasure
The greatest jazz bass player ever - accompanying the greatest jazz pianist!
i agree but another great bass player is Cleveland Eaton
ted tedsen A joke?
no?
I totally agree!
I agree that those two are the best ever!
Thank you God,for Oscar Peterson
So good it gives me chills.
Fabuloso y virtuoso pianista!! Asi es un honor disfrutar el jazz, con escalas unicas y a una velocidad increible!!!!bravisimo.
I must say that as a danish bass player I’m proud. It’s not only Ida Nielsen 👍🏽🎸
This is the best duo in history of jazz
I think George Shearing and Brian Torff push them close though.
NHOP BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two Masters Together!!
wow love it smokin
If only Chopin and Lizt could have heard this! What then? Possibly Oscar would have had some competion but on the basis of this performance they'd have to work for a few years to meet him on his terms. Outstanding!
20 seconds in.... and I'm like WTF ever. Oscar is an absolute freak of jazz piano.
I'd advise you brace yourself and look up Errol Garner Misty, Art Tatum, Johnny Costa, and Jesús Molina.
MUSICANS! Folks! I heard/saw Oscar P in the mid 50's (1956!) and NHOP (Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen) in CPH 1964. OP in Oslo,Norway.
Listening to them plat brings me both intense joy and envy at the same time hahahaha
Mr Peterson was the first jazz pianist I heard in France....so many many decades ago he never left my side.RIP
Amazing, l un des plus grands du jazz!...
Thank you very much for sharing this amazing performance. Sincerely.
Such amazing talent! Thank you for sharing this.
Man can I just sit here and watch the 2020 World Series with Oscar in the background have a cigar and whiskey life is good.
Ya....brandy..fire in the stove...out in the woods..with these guys...Nice !!!
Words forever fail me to say what it is: Just listen to it!!!!!! Great Master!!!
So wonderful...
'S Wonderful
NHØP is the greatest Danish jazz musician of all times. And no doubt the very best bass player in the world. When the very very best jazz pianist ever selects the best bass player as his side-man in a duo concert, something special might happen. And it did! The best performance of both of them, I've ever heard! Amazing!!
One of the greatest jazz pianist ever, iconic and on a Bösendorfer no less, absolute magic thank you
I had never heard this album and now among my favorites. Peterson was an incredible talent!
Bought my first LP ever when I was 14years. It was 'Girl Talk' by Oscar Peterson. Since then he is my life. Over 50 years now...
I know what you mean W D; 64 years in my case - also Clifford Brown.
You have great taste😍
Dear Ward, exactly the same with me; I bought "Night Train" ... He regularly toured through my home town Basel, Switzerland, I never missed a concert though I could hardly afford it with my teenage pocket money ....
Almost exactly the same story here: Bought my first LP when I was twelve - “Night Train”. Since then he’s been my life. Over 44 years now... 😍
They swing sooooooooo hard. Outstanding.
Thanks to whoever made this possible for us to hear and see
Oscar, the best of all.
it's a subject that i always want to understand now, than tomorrow and the next day, month, year and still now i do not understand why and how it always leave me stunned, happhy and living in ecstasy, all that jazz for 4 decades!!!
